R1 – 1.35pm Joe Brown Plate – 1200m

EMPTOR He is a son of Lonhro from the stables of Godolphin and has impressed landing two smart wins at Newcastle. Comes to Melbourne now. With numbers 1,5,6 double-engaged the dynamics here could change.

INVINCIBLE AL Raced well down the straight six at Flemington when finishing a fighting second to Khaki. Beau Mertens’ 2kg claim sees him carry 56kg here and rates well

OAK DOOR Ran a solid third to Khaki over 1200m at Flemington last start. That was off a 21-day break and with Ben Allen’s 2kg claim, he carries 53kg.

ALTER CALL Liked her win over 1110m maiden at Werribee when she trounced her rivals on December 11. Damien Oliver sticks and she is capable of running a cheeky race here.

DODGING BULLETS Did not have a lot of luck when running second over 1600m at Flemington on December 10. Michelle Payne rides and respect. Again the dynamics of this race can change with 5,6,7 all double engaged.

SADIA Ran a sound second over 1600m at Mornington on December 14. Struck a smart winner that day and with Beau Mertens’ 2kg claim has no weight on 52kg.

DOOM ‘N’ BOOM Was doing his best work at the end of the race along the rail when finishing seventh over 1400m at Flemington on December 10. Noel Callow replaces an apprentice and merits respect.

BALLYBRIT Has been in scintillating form over 1600m at Moonee Valley against her own sex. She chases a hat-trick here and drops 2kg to 56kg on her last win on December 16. Good showing expected.

MOVIE Powered home to win by six-lengths against her own sex over 1523m at Moonee Valley on December 9. Dylan Dunn’s claim reduces her weight to 57kg. The big danger.

PLEIN CIEL Is a German galloper racing impressively for top trainer Darren Weir. Chasing a hat-trick here after 3 ¼ length win at Sandown on December 7 over 1400m. Carries 58kg with the claim of Ben Allen.

ROYAL APPLAUSE Gets a 2kg reduction in weight to 54.5kg for her rise in class after running a good second over 1600m against her own sex at Moonee Valley on December16. Dean Yendall is the new rider.

R4 – 3.20pm Robert Allen Plate - 1100m

No1 LYUBA (BEST BET) Has an amazing record of five wins and a second at seven starts. She blazed away to another big win down the straight 1000m at Flemington at her last start on December 10. She carried no weight on 52kg and goes up to 58kg here with Ben Allen’s 2kg claim. She is one of the stars of consistency from the top yard of Darren Weir.




R5 – 4.00pm Ken Sturt Handicap – 1400m

LADY SELKIRK Gets her chance here after a fighting third to Hijack Hussy last Saturday over 1400m at Flemington. Jordan Childs gets the ride and his 1.5kg claim sees her carry 55.5kg. Like.

EXPINSIVE Exploded to a convincing 1 ½ length win first-up at Wangaratta over 1170m on December 6. Ben Allen rides and his 2kg claim drops her weight to a mere 53kg. Good chance.

VITAL IMPORTANCE Racing with plenty of authority and was right in the picture up until the last few strides when running sixth over 1600m at Flemington on December 10. Jumps 3kg to 60kg but against her own sex.

EASY FLYER (BEST ROUGHIE) Was ridden by WA apprentice Jordan Turner when she ran away to a 4 ½ length win over 1170m at Wangaratta on December 17. Turner rides again and his 1.5kg claims see her on 53.5kg.

R6 - 4.40pm Ian McLeod Christmas Stakes – 1200m

DUKE OF BRUNSWICK Was racing in excellent stead before being spelled. Capped his campaign with a solid fourth at Flemington on August 6. Likes this track with six starts for two wins and three seconds and with Damien Oliver up, rates highly.

SMART DART Is another galloper who is ultra-reliable. Posted a narrow win at Pakenham over 1200m on December 12. Michael Dee is the new rider and, though up in weight, is only on 55.5kg.

MURT THE FLIRT Has been freshened since finishing eighth over 1400m on Oaks Day on November 3. Won here at his last start and drops 3kg to 54kg with Chris Symons maintaining the ride.

ANGRY GEE Is a good country winner who ran a close fourth down the straight 1100m at Flemington last Saturday. Drops 3.5kg here to 54kg and has popular hoop Harry Coffey to ride.

Senior rider Brad Rawiller replaces apprentice Jye McNeil and is up 1.5kg to 60kg here. Has an unblemished record at this track and distance and looks the one to beat here.




R8 – 5.55pm Swettenham Stud Summer Championship Heat 5 - 1400m

MA DEUCE Is going to strip fitter here after resuming off a 21-day break when finishing second to Ozi Choice over 1400m at Flemington on December 10. Drops 2.5kg to 54.5kg and has apprentice Michael Dee riding.

KING’S COMMAND Should appreciate his return here after running a sound fifth down the centre in a straight 1200m at Flemington on December 10. Apprentice Beau Mertens’ 2kg claim sees him carry 56.5kg again.

THE NEW BOY Did peak at the 200m mark in a strong race when running fifth down the 1400m at Flemington on December 10. Down in class and Jordan Childs’ 1.5kg sees him carry a winnable 58kg.

OZI CHOICE Had to fight hard to beat Ma Deuce over 1400m at Flemington on December 10. Apprentice Ben Allen rides again and with his claims carries 55.5kg – which is a half-kilo less than last time out.
