Randwick Betting Preview | Horse Racing Tips

Randwick hosts the first NSW metro meeting of the year. May 2017 be a successful one on the punt and Oddschecker will be here to help you. Let's find a winner....

Sat, 31 Dec, 9:49 AM
First city meeting of the year here at Randwick, and we have small fields to deal with due to all the racing we have on at the minute. Intriguing races though and with the track rated good and the rail out 6m the entire circuit we should get good racing.

QUADDIES (Races 5-6-7-8)

Skinny: 4 – 1,3,4,8 – 1,7,9 – 7
Wide: 1,2,3,4 – 1,3,4,8 – 1,3,5,7,8,9,11 – 3,4,7,13

Next Best Bet: R5 N4 IGGI POP
Best Roughie: R6 N3 STORM SYSTEM

R1 - 1:20PM HAPPY NEW YEAR PLATE - 1400m

NEPEAN Was good on debut in what looks to be a good race at Canterbury, he was caught on the fence and hit the line well looking for further. Love the step right to 1400m on his home track and he’s a chance.

METAMORPHIC Has trialled quite well coming into his debut run here. He has had two solid hit outs over 900m and 1030m coming into this, and the small field should suit as it won’t be a tough run 1400m. Waller isn’t going too crash hot at the minute though.

ROYAL NAVY Showed last time in that this trip would look as if it would suit on the fresh side. I think this horse will get 2000m in time, but fresh over 1400m at his home track is a good kick off point

SUGAR DANCE Looks to be next best after a few solid trials coming into a debut run, in what is a tricky race on paper.

SELECTIONS: No 4 NEPEAN, No 3 Metamorphic, No 5 Royal Navy, No 6 Sugar Dance

VALUE RUNNER: No 6 Sugar Dance

R2 – 1:55PM #THERACES HANDICAP - 1800m

NORTHWEST PASSAGE Comes to his home track for the first time after two strong wins in as many starts. From barrier 1 in the small field he is going to get all favours, there is a 2.5kg weight drop on his last-start win and he will be hard to catch.

HARPER'S CHOICE Just smashed them last start at Kembla, he sat wide and had to make a big sweeping run and the win wasn’t in any doubt really. I like the step to 1800m as he showed last preparation that in time he would get a trip.

CANNOT BE SERIOS Won well last start and has done a good job in his first racing preparation. This race looks to be a little tougher though. After the claim for Heywood, he is well in at the weights though and has to be given a chance.

WU GOK Gets a big weight drop on his last start where he was behind Cannot Be Serios. He gets Shinn and blinkers on for the first time, and won't be a shock if he is pushed forward behind the toppie here.

SELECTIONS: No 2 NORTHWEST PASSAGE, No 4 Harper’s Choice, No 1 Cannot Be Serios, No 5 Wu Gok

R3 - 2:30PM TAB PLATE - 1400m

No 8 PEACEFUL SEA (Best Bet) Has to be forgiven her last start, where she sat too close in the run and really didn’t finish off well. From barrier 11 here I expect Glyn to take a sit early on in the race and work into it from the 600m, we saw first-up that she had good gears to work through and if allowed to do that she may well blow them away here.

R4 - 3:05PM TAB.COM.AU HANDICAP - 1600m

FRANCESCO Got a 10/10 from Shinn at Canterbury last start and will need a similar ride here again. This is a tricky race on paper, but he is a horse in form and at the mile on his home track he will be hard to beat.

QUEEN OF WANDS Finished off well enough first-up from a spell. The jump to 1600m looks as if it will suit perfectly here. Her form last time in was some of the best for the 3yo fillies going around and she should be a player here.

COLOSSEUM KING Was probably a touch flat second-up at Randwick after a big first-up win. Third-up to 1600m here will suit, as will the booking of Avdulla from barrier 1 who will have him in the right spot coming to the turn.

SELECTIONS: No 2 FRANCESCO, No 3 Queen Of Wands, No 6 Colosseum King

VALUE RUNNER: No 3 Queen Of Wands

No 4 IGGI POP (NEXT BEST BET) Looks perfectly set up for this race after his run last start in the ATC cup, a lot of these horses went around on Boxing Day and didn’t really run too well on the backup from the heavy 9 run. Bayliss booked is a good one, as he is riding in supreme form currently, blinkers off and winkers on are an attempt to spark him up and he will be hard to beat.

DARK EYES Probably struggled with the heavy going first-up from a spell. I am happy to forgive that run and look at his overall form. Second-up and on his home track he has a chance.

IMANUI Has won his last three in good fashion and resumes here on the back of a good trial behind Mediterranean. 1400m first-up at his home track looks as if it will suit perfectly and from barrier 1 she is going to get all favours.

STORM SYSTEM (Best Roughie) Could run a cheeky race fresh here, I didn’t mind the trial coming into this race as well as the booking of McEvoy which intrigues. At both fresh runs he has placed and may do the same again here.

SELECTIONS: No 1 DARK EYES, No 4 Imanui, No 3 Storm System

VALUE RUNNER: No 3 Storm System

ANISHA Has won both of her runs in good style this time in since joining the Mark Newnham stable. She does go up in weight here, but when these mares hit form you need to find reasons to have them on top as they usually picket fence.

MY TRUE LOVE Has been a big winner at her past two runs and comes back to home for the first time in a race that should suit. She looks to take up the speed here and even though she has won her last two she drops in weight here. If they leave her alone in front they will struggle to run her down.

VIA NAPOLI Gets a super soft run on the map here from barrier 1. She was just caught in a sticky spot there last start and although the inside gate may do the same here, Collett is the jockey you want to have on from an inside gate sneaking up the fence late.

BANNATYNE Gets a solid weight drop after the claim here and should get a race run to suit. She has run good races at her past two but looks to be lacking that killer punch. If she could put it all together it wouldn’t shock to see her blow them away.

SELECTIONS: No 1 ANISHA, No 7 My True Love, No 9 Via Napoli, No 3 Bannatyne

VALUE RUNNER: No 9 Via Napoli

PROFESSOR MARX Killed them first-up as he should have done at Taree, he carried a big weight that day and ran a really fast time. He gets down to 53kgs now from a good gate, he should be able to just sit off them here and with the one turn into the straight should have no issue in finding space.

PUZZLING WONDER Found the line well first-up in a race that wasn’t at all run to suit. Her second-up form is quite average, but she has found a good race this time in. She will need a touch of luck from barrier 11, but if she gets that she is well within a chance.

VEGAS STRIP 3rd up here, expect bold showing SELECTIONS: No 7 PROFESSOR MARX, No 3 Puzzling Wonder, No 13 Vegas Strip

VALUE RUNNER: No 3 Puzzling Wonder
