KISS ME CANDY Improved by three runs this campaign and crying out for 1600m on this roomy Sandown track. Slowly away and blocked in straight when second to Rondalago 1400m Terang Mdn Dec. 5. Then flashed home late for photo third Thanos 1600m Bendigo Mdn Dec. 18. Slightly tougher here but looks a progressive type.

ECHO QUEEN Down from Sydney for this and improved by recent racing. Chased hard when second Lookin’ At You Wyong 1350m Mdn Dec. 22. Placed at Canterbury and Warwick Farm in previous campaign and should strip at peak fitness for this. Chances enhanced with a rain-affected track. Drops 3kg to 56kg on last run.

SMOOTH WHISKEY Finished determinedly for 2-length second to Fast Tycoon 1300m this track Dec. 7. Then hampered by riderless horse when 13-length ninth over 1400m here Dec. 21. Has the benefit of recent racing and would pay to overlook last run, as he had excuses. Will find this slightly easier than recent outings and has strong claims.

YULONG SHENG LONG Led and fought on strongly for second to Stone Warrior 1300m Bendigo Mdn Nov. 30 then stewards queried run when restrained to tail of field and ran about badly in straight when fourth behind Domesticated 1500m Mornington 3YO Mdn Dec. 14. By Pendragon, so extra distance should suit. Has ability and worth another chance.

SELECTIONS: No9 KISS ME CANDY, No8 Echo Queen, No 6 Smooth Whiskey, No7 Yulong Sheng. Long.

VALUE RUNNER: No7 Yulong Sheng Long.

R2 – 2.00pm Splashland Plate – 1300m

BLACK MOSHEEN Knocking on the door for a win and rates highly here. Just pipped by Dollopini 1200m Terang 3yo Maiden then ranged up to win but found Toorak Cowboy a shade strong over this course and distance Dec. 21. Continues to improve and looks one of the toughest in this.

JERVOIS NIGHT Two second placings from four starts to date and rates highly here. At first run for five months worked wide around the field to turn and ran on well for 1.8-length fourth 1221m Geelong Mdn Dec. 15. Peaked at 50m first-up and this is the first time he’s been sound enough to string together two runs in a preparation. Strong stable and Dwayne Dunn in the saddle.

LET’S GO TO RIO Raced clear on straightening and hung final 250m when lost on protest to Casque 1000m Cranbrourne Mdn Dec. 10, then battled on strongly for 1.5-length second 1200m Mornington Mdn Dec. 28. Has speed to overcome wide barrier and will be handy for a long way.

RIVERSIDE BOY Turned in eye-catching effort at second start when he worked to the line powerfully for 2.3-length fourth Toorak Cowboy & Black Mosheen over this trip Dec. 21. Big, long-striding type who meets Black Mosheen on same weight terms but with room for improvement, could be a good each-way bet.

SELECTIONS: No6 BLACK MOSHEEN, No2 Jervois Night, No11 Riverside Boy, No8 Let’s Go To Rio

VALUE RUNNER: No11 Riverside Boy.

R3 – 2.30pm Yarramalong Racing Club 3YO Handicap – 1400m

Dec. 10, then hit lead straightening and just nabbed by Alter Call over 1200m at Caul Dec. 26. 3kg claim brings him in at 57kg again. Strong show.

CLIFF HANGER Good first-up chance. Impressive last-to-first winner over 1411m Sale 2YO Hcp Jun 16 then hemmed away inside next two runs – sixth at Trenchant 1400m Flemington Jun 25 and 5.4-length seventh Trenchant 1600m Gibson-Carmichael Stks Flem July 9. Last three runs on Soft tracks. Should be running on. Ben Thompson’s 2kg claim a help.

GRUOSI Impressive second-up winner 1400m Wangaratta 3YO Mdn Dec. 16 at third race start. Took on good field Flemington 1400m BM70 and was just behind the placegetters before being squeezed final 30m when 3.2-length ninth Widgee Turf Dec. 17. Keep safe.

PRESSCOTT Had all the favours at second start when railed through to beat Tailored & Amo Bay 1600m Bendigo 3YO Mdn Nov. 30. Freshened up for shorter trip here and has to be considered with further improvement.

SELECTIONS: No2 OAK DOOR, No1 Cliff Hanger, No6 Presscott, No5 Gruosi

ROCKET TOMMY Missed jump by 5-lengths as favourite & finished 2.2-lengths ninth Sovereign Duke 975m Swan Hill scamper Nov. 27. Probably should have won last start and obviously freshened for this. Only needs to jump with them to be competitive.
