Doomben is having a rare Friday meeting due to the main Saturday races being at the Gold Coast this week.

The track has had a good rest for most of the past month and should be in fine fettle despite recent rain.

There is some depth to the races but with the rail out 7.5 metres the fields are only average size. It is midweek prize money and the meeting is the usual midlevel in quality.

QUADDIES (Races 4-5-6-7)

Skinny: 2-3-7-9/4,7/4,6/11
Wide: 2-3-7-9/1,4,7,9/1,4,6,8/6,10,11

Best Bet: R7 – 11. DOUBT DEFYING
Next Best Bet: R3 – 2. EAT MY TRUST
Best Roughie: R2 – 8. MAXWELL

R1 – 1.05pm JOIN OUR STABLE QTIS Three-Years-Old Fillies Maiden Handicap - 1350m

GOLDEN SUNSET She has run second at her past two starts behind some handy horses. The 1350m should suit and will probably lead here. She has had plenty of chances but this suits.

DAWN FIGHTER She was scratched on Wednesday to race here. Struck trouble first-up so ignore that run and go on good form last campaign.

IS BREA BUA Her form doesn't look flash but there is a big wrap on her. The 1350m should suit but she wants to start showing something on the race track.

RED APPEAL At her only start she didn't have much luck and will be better here. Looks the value hope.

SELECTIONS: NO 5 GOLDEN SUNSET, NO 4 Dawn Fighter, NO 6 Is Brea Bua, NO 7 Red Appeal

R2 – 1.42pm GIRLS DAY OUT RACE DAY Colts, Geldings and Entires Maiden Handicap - 1200m

THE EXHIBITIONIST His last start was his best run to date and he is well drawn here. Should be able to get the run of the race and looks a strong each-way chance.

MAXWELL (Best Roughie) He was a good fourth two starts back when he finally showed some form. Then a good second at the Sunshine Coast last time. Should be good odds here.

EVERY SINGLE ONE Trialled very well before last start when had little luck. He should go better at this added distance.

SIRTIME He has been getting better with racing and trials. A lot fitter now and this isn't strong. Another drawn to get the run of the race.

SELECTIONS: NO 12 THE EXHIBITIONIST, NO 8 Maxwell, NO 7 Every Single One, NO 9 Sirtime

R3 – 2.18pm Gallopers Sports Club Maiden Handicap - 1650m

NO 2 EAT MY TRUST (NEXT BEST BET) His two starts have been good and he is suited getting out to this distance. He does have an ordinary barrier but should be able to get across and get cover. Should be too strong for these at the finish.

R4 – 2.57pm JAMES BOAG'S PREMIUM Class 1 Handicap - 1200m

OLD TRIESTE He had some solid Victorian form before coming north where he has been backed and beaten only start this area. But getting out to his right distance now and has a barrier which will allow him to race handy. This is his chance to break through this area.

CHIC SALE A strong winner at last start and looks a top chance here. The top jockey has stuck with her.

LIFESAVER Trialled well before solid win in a much weaker race last time. From a powerful stable and rates highly here despite class rise.

CAFE TERRACE Has been racing well at Murwillumbah but does have some form in this type of race. Not the worst by a long way.

SELECTIONS: NO 2 OLD TRIESTE, NO 9 Chic Sale, NO 7 Lifesaver, NO 3 Cafe Terrace

VALUE RUNNER: NO 7 Lifesaver

R5 – 3.35pm Relaxed Racing ratings Band 0-65 Handicap - 2220m

LIGHTNING BELL Has been racing solidly in shorter races and getting out to a more suitable distance. He is bred to be a sprinter but his last start at 1800m indicated he really would like a middle distance.

LEVER LEVER He is a professional placegetter but has raced well in much better company than this. He will be up on the pace and provided he can dictate he will be hard to beat.

GODWOOD He isn't the best horse around but he can stay and he is honest. He has a bad draw here but generally gets back in his races anyway although might go forward here.

SCARLET POET Ran very well when recent Dalby winner and then fought on bravely for a second this track last start. Has a claim here which also suits.

SELECTIONS: NO 4 LIGHTNING BELL, NO 1 Lever Lever, NO 7 Godwood, NO 9 Scarlet Poet

VALUE RUNNER: NO 9 Scarlet Poet

R6 – 4.15pm BRC MEMBERSHIPS Class 1 Handicap - 1650m

THE AMATEUR He’s a highly promising horse who won his maiden by a big margin last time. But he does face a task from the barrier and with the big weight. Should go forward here and his class will take him a long way.

FAST VISION Scored a big win last start but facing a tougher task here. Never the less still he looks one of the better chances.

OUR JAMAICA Never far away in this class and this distance should suit. Another with a bad barrier draw but he should be in the finish with a claim here.

PEGAPUS Does race well this track on occasions and had no luck at all last start when second. Another suited by this distance.

SELECTIONS: NO 1 THE AMATEUR, NO 6 Fast Vision, NO 4 Our Jamaica, NO 8 Pegapus

R7 – 4.55pm WEDDINGS AT BRC Class 3 Plate - 1350m

NO 11 DOUBT DEFYING (BEST BET) He is a promising young horse who has a massive class drop here. He wasn't that far behind a superstar last start and he is well drawn with the leading jockey aboard. He does look too good for these provided there is early pace.
