With Magic Millions on today, all attention is on the Gold Coast with some of the big boys here. Collett, Doyle and Glyn look to play a major part in this meeting. Stinking hot weather in the lead up to the meeting, but typically with Randwick there is some rain expected.

Track should be a 5 at worst. But Sydney has been slightly unpredictable as of late. The rail is out 9-metres which may suit leaders early, but watch late in the day if they find the outside fence which is the super-fast lane.

QUADDIES (Races 6-7-8-9)

Skinny: 2,3,4,5 – 1,6,13 – 8,13,15 – 2,9
Wide: Field – 1,4,5,6,8,11,12,13 – 1,2,4,8,13,15 – 2,3,5,9,12

Best Bet: R1 N2 MENARI
Next Best Bet: R5 N3 KAPOUR
Best Roughie: R8 N15 BEAU TIRAGE

R1 - 1:00PM TAB REWARDS PLATE - 1100m

No 2 MENARI (BEST BET) Has showed plenty of dash in two trials leading into a debut run here. This may well have been a planned attack on Magic Millions weekend with a smaller field and can make use of a claim, as Innes has ridden in both trials where he has run through the line well. He should jump, run and win.

SELECTIONS:

VALUE RUNNER:

R2 – 1:40PM #THERACES HANDICAP - 1200m

RAIMENT Should have won at Canterbury last start simple as that, she only got clear late and went down by an eyelash. She draws a better gate here and won’t be strung up. With clear running, she wins.

SANGIOVESE Was dynamic when winning first-up at Warwick Farm. She ran sizzling time and really toyed with them. The step up to 1200m suits and she looks hard to toss as well.

BUTTERBOOM Gets her chance on the backup here. She was good last weekend in a strong race, back to F&M grade with the claim, gives her a chance.

MODHA Steps up in grade here, but the form around her is quite strong. Chosen Prayer bolted up last weekend which enhanced that form. Previous to that she was behind Improvement who is flying this time in

SELECTIONS: No 4 RAIMENT, No 2 Sangiovese, No 1 Butterboom, No 5 Modha

VALUE RUNNER: No 1 Butterboom

R3 - 2:15PM ALM HANDICAP - 1200m

PUMPKIN PIE Was scratched out of a Highway last weekend in an effort to miss the wet track. She gets right down in the weights after the claim. The form from her last start behind Eckstein is amazing and her trial leading in was great.

IMPROVEMENT Has been superb at winning her last three and keeps on improving (pun intended) with each run. She is well weighted after the claim and looks to have a big chance again.

GHOSTLY Won really well fresh as expected, what I liked about that was he was “taught” how to race and Avdulla settled him in behind horses and he really smashed the line. Doyle on from gate 2 no issue and he’s hard to beat.

ECHO EFFECT Was only four-lengths off Guard Of Honour and Flash Fibian last start in the Heritage during the carnival. He has tuned up with a really nice trial and he has a chance here.

SELECTIONS: No 10 PUMPKIN PIE, No 1 Improvement, No 7 Ghostly, No 5 Echo Effect

VALUE RUNNER: No 10 Pumpkin Pie

R4 - 2:50PM TAB HIGHWAY HANDICAP - 1400m

L'ELU Comes out of what looks to be a good form race last start, we will have an indication by this race if that form-line is as good as I think. Her first-up win was super and she may have been flat second-up. Out to 1400m on a dry track she will be hard to roll.

COGLIERE Ran last first-up, but that was in a much better race than this. He stays at 1400m second-up and that should suit. The claim for Adkins is a good one and he must be respected.

AL CUBANA Will win a race like this sooner or later, he has been knocking on the door for a while without much luck. Rail +9 at Randwick gives him a chance to find that out wide lane and fly late.

ZUZZUDIO Will have the last shot at them here and may well find the super wide lane. Her runs this time in have been fantastic and she has been running through the line, 1400m and down to 51.5 give her a hope.

SELECTIONS: No 4 L'ELU, No 1 Cogliere, No 6 Al Cubana, No 10 Zuzzudio

VALUE RUNNER: No 10 Zuzzudio

R5 – 3:25PM MAROUBRA MILE - 1600m

No 3 LOYALTY MAN (NEXT BEST BET) Big winner last start in what looks to be a stronger race than this. He is down to run at the Magic Millions, but no indication at time of writing where he goes. If he runs here, down 2kgs off a last start win and getting to the open expanses of Randwick, it looks a free kick at 60 grand.

No 1 RELIGIFY

No 2 KAPOUR

No 7 GOLD AMBITION

R6 - 4:00PM TAB HANDICAP - 2400m

BURNING ENERGY Won well last start and finds Glyn here. He was strong through the line as he took off early that day, stepping up to 2400m – if he is ever going to run the trip out, it is now and I’m happy to punt off his breeding that he will.

THEWAYWEARE Won the plodders 2400m race on Boxing Day, from gate 1 he is going to get all favours in the run. But he does lose Avdulla which is a slight concern.

TRAFALGAR Had every conceivable chance last start, but I think he ran out of condition late and should be better suited here. I have given up on him as he has burnt me too many times, which probably makes him a moral now!

ADMIRAL JELLO Gets the best staying jockey in the race in Doyle, the step up to 2400m looks as if it will suit off his last start. He was favourite against Burning Energy that day, so it must be respected.

SELECTIONS: No 2 BURNING ENERGY, No 4 Thewayweare, No 3 Trafalgar, No 5 Admiral Jello

VALUE RUNNER: No 2 Burning Energy

R7 - 4:40PM SCHWEPPES HANDICAP - 1400m

INVINCIBLE KNIGHT Was a big winner first-up flying at them late. He stays at 1400m which is a touch concerning, but the bigger field will ensure a good tempo and he can work through his gears well. If he can do so he will finish over the top of them.

LOUIE SEA KAY Big winner last start when coming with a withering run at them late. Up to 1400m suits even more, the booking of Lever is no issue as he has ridden him in the past. If he can get to the out wide lane, he could blow them away.

INVIZABEEL Forget his last weekend run where he didn’t handle the conditions. Back on a hard track suits as does 1400m. But his best form last prep was when he was fresh. So I am not sure what Waller is thinking, but he is too good to leave out.

ESTEBAN Will be hitting the line harder than anything here. His first-up run was quite good, but he is looking for further than this. Watch out for his best work through the line.

SELECTIONS: No 6 INVINCIBLE KNIGHT, No 13 Louie Sea Kay, No 1 Invinzabeel, No 3 Esteban

VALUE RUNNER: No 1 Invinzabeel

R8 – 5:20PM TAB.COM.AU HANDICAP - 1100m

BADAJOZ Resumes off the back of two trials leading into this. He is a great little short course horse and has a good record over the 1100m. Doyle on from gate 6 looks perfect on the map.

Machinegun Jubs Was outgunned late first-up and the rise in distance looks suitable here. The form has held up well out of that first-up run and if she has taken improvement from that run she will be hard to hold out, dropping 4.5kgs.

BEAU TIRAGE (Best Roughie) If he gains a run, will run them along here and will appreciate the weight drop after his last few runs. Down to 50.5 with Hunt on board who has been riding well as of late, gives him a hope.

ENCOSTANATI Will be better suited at 1100m here. He was a noted drifter in the market first up ($3-$6) and ran accordingly. Don’t know what to make of the run, so I am wiping it from the memory and going off his trial.

SELECTIONS: No 8 BADAJOZ, No 13 MachineGun Jubs, No 15 Beau Tirage, No 2 Encostanati

VALUE RUNNER: No 15 Beau Tirage

R9 – 5:55PM HYLAND RACE COLOURS HANDICAP - 1600m

DARK EYES Was a big winner at the New Year’s meeting at Randwick. The step up to 1600m will only suit better. Hippo on board is no issue as he suits these horses of Gai’s quite well. He should be now rock hard fit third-up.

LIAPARI I like the drop back to 1600m here with the blinkers on. His best runs have been at that mile distance since coming across to Australia and I understand why he was tried as a stayer given his breeding. If he can settle in the blinkers he’s hard to beat.

HAND FROM ABOVE Comes out of a good race last start at Rosehill where he hit the line well. Up to the mile suits as does the weight drop to 55kgs. He is a winner at the mile in the past.

FRANCESCO Produced a big run last start and was only gunned down late by the horse who sat on his back the whole way. Staying at the mile suits and he is in fantastic form currently

SELECTIONS: No 2 DARK EYES, No 9 Liapari, No 5 Hand From Above, No 3 Francesco

VALUE RUNNER: No 9 Liapari
