Racing from Hawkesbury here on a Wednesday, this is a provincial meeting due to the Australia Day City meeting tomorrow. Seven competitive races on the card, with small but intriguing fields. Track is rated good and the rail is in the true position. QUADDIES (Races 4-5-6-7)

Skinny: 7,9 – 6 – 6,7 – 3
Wide: 3,4,7,9 – 2,6 – 3,5,6,7 - FIELD

Best Bet: R5 N6 LIFFY
Next Best Bet: R3 N7 ABSOLUTE RIPPER
Best Roughie: R2 N2 CAPRERA

R1 -1:20PM MCDONALD'S GARTON GROUP BENCHMARK 72 HANDICAP - 1600m

ARIGOLD Wasn’t too bad in a better race than this at Randwick, he was only 4.7m off the winner there. Back in grade suits and the claim gets him in well.

PARAGON Should improve out to 1600m second-up. He will settle last here, but the open expanses of Hawkesbury help and he will be running through the line.

CHARMING LAD Ran well behind Seasonal at Kembla. That race should stack up well in this grade, the weight drop of 7kgs gives him a big hope here.

NO PUSHOVER Comes out of the same race as Charming Lad last start and I can’t see a turnaround in the result given the weight differential that day.

SELECTIONS: No 1 ARIGOLD, No 3 Paragon, No 4 Charming Lad, No 5 No Pushover

VALUE RUNNER: No 3 Paragon

R2 – 1:55PM LUCY HEYES MEMORIAL MAIDEN PLATE - 1100m

STORM FORCE Comes into this race on the back of a solid trial performance. His runs at his first campaign were good. He always looked like he would be better in his second prep and I think he can kick off with a win here.

GLORIETTE Should be improved for the first-up run at Canterbury, that race does look a nice one going forward and O’Shea sending her here has to be respected.

CAPRERA (Best Roughie) Has been plain awful at both of his two starts to date. But his trials leading in show that he has turned the corner and he could shock here.

SELECTIONS: No 4 STORM FORCE, No 6 Undaoaf, No 7 Gloriette, No 2 Caprera

R3 - 2:35PM GOODFELLOW SPORTS CLASS 2 HANDICAP - 1000m

No 7 ABSOLUTE RIPPER (Next Best Bet) Should find this much easier than the Highway she ran in last start. She was no better than 3-4 wide in the run and was only nailed on the line by Isla Tristana. Off a freshen up here she looks to get all favours in the run and may well run them into the ground.

No 5 SMILING ALL

No 8 TICKLING

No 1 ADMIT

R4 -3:10PM RICHMOND MARKETPLACE PROV & CTRY MAIDEN HANDICAP - 1100m

FOUR MORE MILLERS Comes out of some solid maidens at his past few runs. Yes it’s hard to trust an 18-start maiden, but this looks to be as weak a race as he has seen.

CAISSON PLATOON Is now trained on the track and has left the Pride yard. Again hard to trust, but comes out of better races than this and the trial was solid.

LATTIMER With the blinkers on fresh, looks tuned up and ready to go. Garry White has a solid strike rate at his home track and he must be respected.

JAXIM Was good enough on debut in what has proven to be a solid form race at Gosford. With the benefit of race experience, he has a chance.

SELECTIONS: No 9 FOUR MORE MILLERS, No 7 Caisson Platoon, No 4 Lattimer, No 3 Jaxim

VALUE RUNNER: No 9 Four More Millers

R5 – 3:45PM EATHER GROUP METRO & PROV MAIDEN PLATE - 1500m

No 6 LIFFY (Best Bet) Comes through some solid maidens where the winners look to be quite smart. Out to the 1500m here and with Tommy on board, I think she can take up a closer spot in the run. Off her closing sectionals in both starts the long Hawkesbury straight will suit and she will be hard to hold out.

No 2 AMERICA

No 8 SHE'S DEMANDING

No 3 ISERLOHN

R6 -4:25PM RICHMOND CLUB CLASS 1 HANDICAP - 1400m

MARROCK Improved effort last start at Kembla, he had no luck prior to that and has a big chance here.

ALL IN RHYTHM Got taken on in front last start and that effort told late first-up. Good break between runs here so he isn’t too flat and if left alone in front can give sight.

R7 - 5:05PM RONALD MCDONALD HOUSE CHARITIES BENCHMARK 60 HANDICAP - 1800m

CONCESSIONS Comes out of a better race than this last start at Warwick Farm. Up to the 1800m should suit. From the gate, I expect Taylor to roll forward.

FIRED UP Getting out to 1800m should suit. He worked through the line well enough at Muswellbrook.

I'M HECTOR Back to the 1800m suits here as he only just plodded over the 2100m at Gosford. If you forget that run his form is good enough.

CRIMSON HALO Comes into this off a freshen up. I wouldn’t worry about 1800m “fresh” as Payne is good with horses such as these and they are usually ready to go when over distance fresh.

SELECTIONS: No 3 CONCESSIONS, No 2 Fired Up, No 1 I’m Hector, No 4 Crimson Halo

VALUE RUNNER: No 2 Fired Up
