Moonee Valley Betting Tips & Preview

Betting Tips for every race at Moonee Valley.

Looks to be a tough night for punters with wide open races and plenty of chances. Trainer Darren Weir should play a big hand with a strong line-up of runners and the apprentices should be dominant. Top jockey Craig Williams has some handy rides and he rarely leaves a meeting winless. The weather is perfect with a balmy 27C maximum forecast and the day being sunny. The track is rated as a Good 4 and the false rail will be at four metres.

  • Best Roughie: R4– 8. WIN SPOT

R1 – 6.30pm. Ostar Internal Media Group Plate – 1000m.

No 3 FROM THE CLOUDS Given a baptism of fire debuting in a Group 3 race and then at her following start battled on well to run seventh over 1000m at Sandown on November 12. Freshened for this.

No 5 KAIKEN Is a daughter of leading sire Exceed And Excel so she is well bred and should be kept safe. Is from the stables of Darren Weir and has Group 1 winning jockey Damian Lane to ride.

R2 – 7.00pm. ACJC Happy New Year Plate – 1519m.

No 8 MRS GARDENIA From the yard of top trainer Darren Weir and looks on the rise on second up second over 1400m against her own sex on January 20. Strongly fancied at $2.70 that day and with Ben Allen’s claim carries only 54kg here.

No 3 MARCHING ON Worth watching the betting for this debutante. Not set the world on fire at his trials but he hails from an astute stable and with Beau Mertens’ 2kg claim carries only 56kg.

No 4 BELLA MISSILE Came in for good support when backed from $9 into $7 before finishing a strong third over 1300m at Werribee on January 27. Backs up here and strikes a small field. Top hoop Craig Williams is to ride.

No 6 MISS COUNTERFEIT Racing well on country track and latest effort was sound when running second in a maiden over 1400mn at Werribee on January 27. On the quick back up and carries only 53.5kg with Jack Martin’s 3kg claim.

MRS GARDENIAMoonee Valley 08:00 - Winner

R3 – 7.30pm. Carrazzo Consulting Handicap – 1519m.

No 1 HARD CALL Won impressively two starts ago and he had no luck here last start before finishing fifth over 1500m on January 21. With the 2kg claim of apprentice Beau Mertens will carry 59.5kg and has the pace to lead or be on the speed.

No 2 KING’S COMMAND Was backed from $9 into $7 before finishing a fighting second over 1600m here on January 21. Ben Thompson’s claim sees him carry 58.5kg and he rates as the main danger. He loves this track too.

No 5 KISS ME KETUT Has the speed to lead and was unwanted at $21 but gave a cheeky effort to finish third against her own sex over 1600m here on January 21. Boris Thornton’s claim sees her carry a mere 53.5kg which is a drop of 2kg on her last run.

No 7 RISING HOPE Won with 58.5kg over 1500m at Mornington on January 8. With Ben Allen’s 2kg claim she gets to carry 53kg here and she is from the stables of top trainer Darren Weir. Was imposing last start and rates here.

HARD CALLMoonee Valley 08:30 - Winner

R4 – 8.00pm. Dangerfield Exley Lawyers Handicap – 1200m.

No 4 PRINCESS ARROW Was steady in the betting at $6 before finishing third over 1400m against her own sex at Flemington on January 14. Damien Oliver stays on board and carries the same weight on 55kg. She likes this distance.

No 6 PANTHERESS Has been most honest since coming here from Queensland. Latest ran a good third over 955m here last Friday night. WA apprentice Jordan Turner’s 1.5kg claim reduces her weight to 53.5kg. Handy here.

No 1 MY SISTER LIL Liked some of her efforts over the spring but she had enough by the end of her campaign. She has the good record of two wins and two thirds at six starts first-up. With Ben Thompson’s 2kg claim she carries 56kg and is a smart type in a small field.

No 8 WIN SPOT (Best Roughie) She was at lucrative odds at $81 when finishing a close ninth over 1200m here on January 21. She goes up a kilo to 55kg and won’t be at $81 here on her last start. Makes place appeal.

R5 – 8.30pm. Inglis 55sec Challenge Heat 11 – 955m.

No 4 PETITE’S REWARD Was strongly backed from $2.50 into $2.35 last week in a heat over 955m here last Friday before running second. She had Craig Williams on top and this week has 3kg apprentice Chelsea Hall, whose claim drops her weight to 55.5kg. Good chance.

No 5 DANCE WITH FONTEIN She faces milder opposition here on her last-start sixth over 1100m at Caulfield on January 7. With Ben Thompson’s 2kg claim she carries 56kg, which appears a good weight and she is fresh for the 955m dash.

No 6 VINNIE VEGA Loves this distance and he is in full flight with a smart win over 1000m at Wagga on January 17. He was backed from $3.80 into $3.40 and with Jake Bayliss’ 2kg claim will carry a mere 53kg. Up in grade here but form is first class.

No 9 PUNT CLUB Was bloused in the last strides over 1000m here last start on Friday night. Is on the quick back up but gets weight relief dropping 3kg to 55.5kg and has ace rider Damian Lane as the new rider.

R6 – 9.00pm. Cathay Pacific Cup – 1000m.

No 6 MAGNATTI (BEST BET) Ace jockey Craig Williams rides this three-year-old filly for the first time. She is a daughter of Victoria’s top sire Magnus and is unbeaten at her two starts. She has trumped her opposition by a total of 3 ¼ lengths at her two starts and makes strong appeal resuming here against her own sex and in a small field. Should prove too classy for these.

No 3 LITTLE INDIAN Won down the straight 1000m at Flemington three starts ago.

No5 QUILATE May be more effective over further but respect.

MAGNATTIMoonee Valley 10:00 - Winner

R7 – 9.30pm. Modscape Handicap – 3000m.

No 1 HALE SORIANO (NEXT BEST BET) Gets his chance to amend here against a moderate bunch of stayers. He is trained by Darren Weir and struck tougher opposition when running second over 2500m at Flemington on January 14. This Irish bred import has been disappointing but with Luke Nolen on board he can do the job over the 3000m here.

No 2 SOVIET COURAGE Chris Waller stayer with Craig Williams on top and respect.

No 7 BLACK CHEVALIER Grinding type and will be plugging away.

No 4 I HAVE A DREAM Raised in class but is a last-start winner.

R8 – 10.00pm. William Hill Handicap – 1200m.

No 6 ANY GIVEN BENDER Had no luck losing a winker and jockey his whip when running second over 1200m at Mornington on January 17. Won over the same trip at his prior start. New rider with Regan Bayliss taking the reins here and will be forward.

No 9 ROCK’N’ROLLROCK Three-year-old who has been racing well against stronger opposition. Latest ran good ninth after being trapped wide over 1400m at Flemington on January 1.Goes up in weight from 54kg to 58.5kg and has a new rider in Jamie Mott.

No 15 RED SISTER ROSIE Has the Poon Train aboard with the claim, was a winner last start and has enough ability to upset the apple cart right here in the last
