Saturday racing comes to us from Royal Randwick yet again this weekend. Solid meeting here headlined by the Eskimo Prince and the return of Omei Sword and Comin’ Through. It’s an exciting time to be a fan of racing in general. The rail is out 6m the circumference and with the rain expected in the lead up, I have done the form for a soft track.

    QUADDIES (Races 6-7-8-9)

    Skinny: 1,3 – 3,4 – 2,4,5,7,9,12 – 4,6,12,14
    Wide: 1,3,4,5,7 – 1,2,3,4,5,6,7 – 1,2,4,5,7,8,9,12 – 1,3,4,5,6,9,12,14

Best Bet: R4 N5 DAL CIELO
Next Best Bet: R1 N5 SHALMANESER
Best Roughie: R9 N4 TOWER OF SONG

R1 -12:45pm. ALM HANDICAP - 2000m.

No 5 SHALMANESER (Next Best Bet) Drops back in grade and a much more suitable level after taking on the listed summer cup series at his last few. He only goes up 1kg for those efforts and is well in given his performances. He opened $11 on Wednesday and with a horse like Gold Ambition favourite he is a great bet at any price.

No 4 MONTAUK Deadset turned it up last week. Backs up quickly again and has a chance.

No 6 VASSAL Found the line well enough last week and has a chance

No 2 GOLD AMBITION Fell In at $1.12 at Bathurst last week. Probably runs a place again.

VALUE RUNNER: No 5 SHALMANESER
SHALMANESERRoyal Randwick 01:45 - Winner

R2 -1:25pm. HINCHINBROOK PLATE - 1100m.

No 4 EDEN ROC Reminds me of Star Turn and he has the exact same profile this time last year. Beaten odds-on in debut. Gear change at his second start and starts a silly price here. Winkers on and up to 1100m with race experience suit and he will be hard to beat.

No 5 LIGHTZ Should be improved here after an ok first preparation where he was doing it on natural ability with not much race sense. He is bred to be a 2yo given his sire and dam both won Slippers. The trial leading in was good and he has a chance from a soft draw.

No 12 GRASSLANDS (Also accepted Friday) Comes out of the Gimcrack behind Jorda on debut which is a race that always holds up each year. The trial leading in was impressive. Freedman now starting to hit his straps in Sydney and must be respected.

No 1 VERANILLO Was super impressive on debut when winning in November. He was gangly and green in the run and still put them away on nothing but ability. First-up second prep he is a horse who could be a major player come slipper time and has to be respected.

VALUE RUNNER: No 5 LIGHTZ
EDEN ROCRoyal Randwick 02:25 - Winner

R4 -2:35pm. THE CHI-X SPRINT - 1000m.

No 5 DAL CIELO (Best Bet) Smashed them last start at Warwick Farm and did it with utter ease. He has had a freshen since that run and looks to get all favours in the run again here. He is a group quality horse and now that he has been gelded, it may well be the making of him and he is going to be super hard to beat staying at the 1000m again.

No 3 HIS MAJESTY Yet to have a run over 1000m during his career. From gate 1 he gets a soft run.

No 2 DENMAGIC May find 1000m too short, but is a classy mare and I love that Bowman is booked.

No 7 AEGEAN SEA Is a flying machine and will run along with no weight on her back

VALUE RUNNER: No 2 DENMAGIC
DAL CIELORoyal Randwick 03:35 - Winner

R3 - 2:00pm. SCHWEPPES GARDENIA HANDICAP - 1600m.

No 3 STRAWBERRY BOY Looks to get all favors in the run here after a solid run in the Magic Millions last start. In a bunched finish, he was overhauled late. The trial between runs was good and Waller has used that well recently. Up to the mile is another tick.

No 4 TESTASHADOW Won that race at the Magic Millions and there is no knock on that win. But he rarely puts two in a row together. After the claim he is well weighted and has to be given a chance with that claim.

No 6 GOLD SYMPHONY Was held up around the turn last start in the Carrington stakes behind Ecuador. That form should hold up quite well, but given that he has drawn gate 1 and gets right down in the weights he will be thereabouts.

No 2 RELIGIFY Has been flying this time in with some great performances and ticked another box last start by winning at the mile in a small field. Granted he only beat Gold Ambition but he ran through the line well there. He is rock hard fit and is a chance.

VALUE RUNNER: No 3 STRAWBERRY BOY
STRAWBERRY BOYRoyal Randwick 03:00 - Winner

R5 -3:10pm. TAB HIGHWAY HANDICAP - 1200m.

No 6 SUPER STAR BOB Won in brilliant fashion here in a highway two weeks ago. He really charged through the gap when he got it, he looks a horse who is on the way up and could well make a mess of them here.

No 2 NIC'S VENDETTA Is unbeaten second-up and was good behind Super Star Bob fresh, he hasn’t won for a while and has been a perennial placegetter in these races, but with the weight swing in his favour he has a chance.

No 13 CLIPPER Ran third in that same race last start and looked to get a little lost in the wide open Randwick straight. She gets Avdulla here and looked to the eye as if she had some improvement to come. If she does she is in the finish.

No 1 ALL SUMMER LONG Has a big weight but has a great first-up record here. This is probably a pipe opener for the country championships that are coming up in the next month. His trial was good and he must be respected.

VALUE RUNNER: No 2 NIC'S VENDETTA

R7 -4:25pm. CHINA HORSE CLUB BREEDERS CLASSIC - 1200m.

No 4 EGYPTIAN SYMBOL Should be much better suited coming back to 1200m here. I don’t think leading is her go and she has failed in her past two attempts when leading. If she has a bunny to chase her turn of foot is dynamite. Collett back aboard and look back to her win in October at the T&D to get a guide on her here.

No 3 DANISH TWIST One of the hard luck stories of the spring for mine. She was absolutely flying and just didn’t have any luck whatsoever. She has had two trials leading into this first-up run and both have been stylish. Her first-up record is horrid though. However, last prep was her best fresh run. Great record at the track and hard to beat.

No 6 I AM ZELADY Absolutley flew in a trial here last week and looks to be really in the zone. She played up horridly before the Magic Millions and was a really massive run to do what she did in running second. Down to 54kgs, she will sit off them here and have the last shot.

No 7 CIRCULAR Comes out of a hot Goulburn Cup where they ran sizzling time. Four first-up runs for four thirds give her a good chance here and after the trial, it only enhances that.

VALUE RUNNER: No 7 CIRCULAR
EGYPTIAN SYMBOLRoyal Randwick 05:25 - Winner

R6 -3:45pm. AUSTRALIAN CHINESE JOCKEY CLUB ESKIMO PRINCE STAKES - 1200m.

No 3 OMEI SWORD Has trialled in brilliant order leading into this first-up run. She is the only filly taking on the boys here but under the weight conditions she gets a 5kg advantage on her nearest rival. She missed the Flight Stakes in the Spring where she was $1.30 in the lead up. Given a good time to get over that. She is a group 1 filly in the making.

No 1 COMIN' THROUGH My early tip for the Doncaster, has trialled in pleasing fashion twice leading into a first-up assignment. This is his first attempt over 1200m in his short career, but given the way he has trialled he looks sharp enough for this. Walker is my only concern as he has to match it with Bowman and Doyle, but with C Waller doing the training it’s a minor issue.

No 4 BEZEL Trialled ok enough from what you could see on the replay. 1200m is going to be short of his best this preparation as he looks to be a guineas colt. But his class will carry him a long way here.

No 5 BRYNEICH Just utterly smashed them last start at Canterbury, that race was much weaker than this but he was able to beat the older horses and in stunning fashion too. Big step up here. But race fitness and confidence may catch the “big guns” out.

VALUE RUNNER: No 5 BRYNEICH

R8 -5:05pm. THE STAR CLUB HANDICAP - 1600m.

No 12 IMANUI Looks well suited getting up to the 1600m for the first time this preparation. He was slow out last start and was only just beaten and it probably cost him the race there. He looks to get a great run on the map and is hard to beat.

No 4 INVINCIBLE KNIGHT Was a touch flat last start after a booming win fresh. Getting up to the mile is going to suit him much more, as is the bigger field which should generate more pace. From gate 2 he gets a cosy run and has his chance.

No 2 CLASSIC UNIFORM Will take up the speed again here and prove hard to run down. He just out toughed them last start and was drawing away on the line there. Adkins can probably get going a little sooner here and put them under even more pressure.

No 1 ESTEBAN Was a flat stayer second-up simple as that. Up to the mile now he is more suited, he will be the one flashing late.

VALUE RUNNER: No 4 INVINCIBLE KNIGHT
IMANUIRoyal Randwick 06:05 - Winner

R9 -5:45pm. IT'S ON! IN SYDNEY HANDICAP - 1400m.

No 4 TOWER OF SONG (Best Roughie) Was fantastic first-up and really closed off well for Heywood there. Staying at 1400m is a touch of a concern for mine, but he has had three weeks between runs to get over it, as well as being a Snowden horse at home. The form has stood up quite well and he is hard to beat.

No 14 NIKITAS Runs in the weakest race that he has run in since his debut. Have a look at the horses he has run into so far in his career. Capitalist and Astern spring to mind! Fresh here with no weight for Glyn after two solid trials give him a hope.

No 12 DORF STAR Just keeps on winning and answering all challenges and drops in weight again here. While he is flying I see no reason to jump off. He is going to get a brilliant run in the map here and is well over the odds.

No 1 DEPLOY Has done nothing wrong this preparation, but is now really getting up in the weights and had the best run of all time last start to win. 1400m looks as if it will suit, but you have to risk him a touch!

VALUE RUNNER: No 4 TOWER OF SONG
TOWER OF SONGRoyal Randwick 06:45 - Winner
