The cooler weather will be welcomed after sweltering few days in Victoria with 27C the maximum forecast for Friday. The rail will be at four metres with the track rated as a Good 4. Has been a very hot week in Victoria and horses should enjoy the cooler change here. Looks to be a heady meeting where punters need to stay alert and watch betting trends with deep fields in most races.

R1 - 6:30pm. William Hill PLate – 1200m.

No 4 MARQUANT Is a well-bred son of Fastnet Rock from the stable of Team Hawkes. He is from the New Zealand Group 1 winning mare Captivate and he meets shallow opposition at his debut. If he has any ability can win.

No 3 MAGIC THOR Was the subject of a big betting move when backed from $7.50 into $3.20 at his debut when finishing fourth over 1100m at Bellana on January 30. Top jockey Mark Zahra goes on board here.

No 7 MONTOYA’S SECRET Has the runs on the board with six starts for three placings. Was spelled after finishing seventh over 1700m at Flemington on November 3. She is back in her own grade.

No 8 MY AIM IS TRUE Has race fitness on her side and can improve on her last-start second over 1200m in a maiden here on January 27. Stable rider Regan Bayliss rides and from gate six she should get a cosy run.


R2 – 7.00pm. Reg Delaney Memorial – 1200m.

No 3 CHAVUMA Careered away to a massive 3 ¼ length win over 1100m at Werribee on January 27. Apprentice Mitchell Aitken rides again and his 3kg claim reduces his weight to 56.5kg. Been ultra-reliable and should again make his presence felt.

No 9 DISSOLUTE Form tapered off last campaign but appears a promising type. His first-up record is okay and he has Melbourne’s top jockey Craig Williams to steer. Wears the Royal Blue of Godolphin and respect fresh here.

No 6 SASAYURI Was at cricket score odds at $31 but trounced her rivals here over 1200m on January 27. Nick Haywood’s 3kg claim reduces her impost to 55.5kg but he is less experienced than colleague Beau Mertens.

No 7 THIS KID ROCKS Scored a powerhouse win over 1200m at Hilton on January 20. He gets the services of the talented Damien Oliver to boost his chances here and drops 2.5kg to 57kg here for his rise in class. Pay to keep most safe.


CHAVUMARace 2 Reg delaney memorial handicap - Winner

R3 – 7.30pm. Adapt Australia Handicap – 1000m.

No 2 I’M TOO HOT Was a slashing winner over 1000m in 3YO maiden at Mornington on January 28. Gets Damien Oliver to steer here and could start as short as $2.10 again if punters come for him. Looks hard to beat.

No 3 ATHENA LASS Was spelled after she disappointed when at $8 and finished ninth in a Group 3 here on September 23. She has a perfect record over this trip and off a 140-day break would expect her to shine on 57kg with the 2kg claim.

No 7 VILLA ROSA Started at the prohibitive odds of $1.24 when blowing away her opposition in a 1000m maiden at Morington on January 17. She drops 2.5kg to 55kg and has premier rider Craig Williams staying on top.

No 1 CANNY ROCKET Has been given a freshen-up after ran fourth over 955m here on December 16. With Ben Allen’s 2kg claim he carries 58kg and he does appreciate this distance.


R4 – 8.00pm. Simpson Construction Handicap – 1600m.

No 2 FARSON Won at 50-per-cent of his starts. Careered away to a half length win over 1600m at Caulfield on January 26. The Sydney-trained gelding has had his blinkers removed for this clash and expect him to be strong.

No 4 YULONG SHENG LONG Has shown plenty of promise and is racing for his new trainer Mick Price for the first time here. He has top jockey Damien Oliver to ride and is fresh after running fourth at Sandown on January 18 for trainer Darren Weir.

No 3 SEGUNA Smashed his rivals over 1400m at Ballarat on January 25. Mark Zahra has stuck and he rises only a half kilo to 58kg for his 3 ¼ length victory. Again should be fancied and will give his punters a good sight.


FARSONRace 4 Simpson construction handicap - Winner

R5 – 8.30pm. Inglis 55 Second Challenge Heat 12 – 955m.

No 4 EL SICARIO Was spelled after failed at Caulfield on October 1. Hails from an astute Kiwi training partnership and his first-up record is outstanding with a win and a second at two starts. He gets top jockey Mark Zahra to steer him fresh.

No 1 VINNIE VEGA Gave a solid effort here last Friday over 955m when finishing fourth. Nick Heywood’s 3kg claim reduces his impost to 58kg and he should be improved for the outing. His prior country form was first grade.

No 9 DECONI Is a chance in a wide open field. Suffered interference when finishing fourth over 955m against her own sex here on January 27. Senior jockey Luke Nolen replaces an apprentice and would respect here.

No 2 MY SURVIVOR Was at the cricket score odds of $81 when he won down the straight 1100m at Flemington on December 17. Jake Bayliss’ 2kg claim reduces his weight to 57.5kg, which is a winnable weight here in a deep field.


EL SICARIORace 5 Inglis 55 second challenge heat 12 - Winner

R6 – 9.00pm. Johnnie Walker TOV Distance Series Heat 9 – 2500m.

No 3 CREDITON Has the blinkers off for his step up in distance after running a solid fourth over 2050m here on January 21. Ben Thompson rides again and his 2kg claim reduces his weight to 56kg. The trip here won’t be a problem and must respect.

No 2 CAPTAIN KITTINGER Fought on gamely when led and challenged before running third over 2500m at Pakenham on January 25. He gets a relief in weight down from 61kg to 58kg here and has Noel Callow to ride again.

No 6 ZILBIYR Is a French bred stayer who has been most honest at his three starts this season. Damien Oliver is the new rider and he is a good chance on his last-start fourth over 2050m here on January 27. Has won over 2213m in the UK.


CREDITONRace 6 Johnnie walker tov distance series heat 9 - Winner

R7 – 9.30pm. Penang Turf Club Handicap – 1519m.

No 9 STRIKE FORCE (BEST BET) Is enjoying having his races spaced and can go one better than his last start second over 1400m at Pakenham on January 25. Patrick Maloney again rides and he again carries 58kg and should appreciate the extra distance here. Drawn well in gate six to get a smooth transit and looks one of the better bets on the night.

No 14 FIFE Has worked home strongly and respect.

No 2 JEST FOR THE ROAD Racing in full flight and looms as a good chance.

No 3 SEE ME FLY Looks ready for the increase in distance here.

R8 – 10.00pm. IPRINT Handicap – 1200m.

No 1 ANATOLA (NEXT BEST BET) Has been as consistent as the clock and looks to get her chance to break-through for an overdue win here. Latest she was a $3.10 favourite when finishing third over 1300m at Sandown on January 30. With Beau Mertens’ 2kg claim she carries 57.5kg which appears a winnable weight against her own sex here.

No 11 A MIST OPPORTUNITY Sydney mare switching to Melbourne and appeals as the main danger.

No 10 EXCLUSIVE HEIGHTS Rising in class but is racing well and rates as a chance.
