Find the right horses for your blackbook from Rosehill on Saturday

Mon, 20 Feb, 12:00 AM

Racing was back to Rosehill last week on a soft 6 (downgraded after rain part way through the program) surface thanks to some heavy rain on the preceding days.

From about 4-off to the middle of the track and on-speed was the place to be, with not too many runners coming on from any wider throughout the day.

There’ll be no prizes for identifying the ones to follow this week (all starting favourites in-fact), but with the Autumn carnival just round the corner these are gallopers I really want in my corner.

SLIPPER SELECTION – SHE WILL REIGN: Pretty self-explanatory honestly.

Added more strings to her ever growing bow after this emphatic win by 1.3L on the line to smart Verinillo. Missing the kick, she was one of the only gallopers to come from last to score on the day.

Her final test will be the 1200m box in two weeks and she went through the line on Saturday like the extra 100m would just mean a larger winning margin. Not hard at all to see why she was smashed in the slipper betting: $5-$3.

From a punting perspective however, I believe the $3 presently on offer isn’t worth taking. I don’t see her jumping at this price quite yet with some eye catching runs in the Diamond along with her 1200m task in the Reisling possibilities of pushing her quote out.

Record: 3:3-0-0

Where to next? 1200m Reisling Stakes, Randwick, 04/03

STAYER OF THE FUTURE SELECTION – ANTONIO GUISEPPE: On paper, Antonio looked to have a tough task with Strawberry Boy mapping to get it easy up front. Punter’s reacted to this and Antonio was wound out to $3.40 from $2.60 by the jump.

However, he never looked in trouble for a second. Settling nicely off the pace around 5th, he peeled out to the middle of the track rounding the turn and responded as soon as jockey Angland asked, racing away to win by 1.3L on the line.

The only negative about this run I would say is that he was laying in slightly in the straight, not ideal moving forward into big Group 1 races. However he’s proved himself in this company in last years Metropolitan over 2400m.

He holds nominations for the Doncaster, Sydney Cup and Queen Elizabeth Stakes and Waller has said Antonio would have his options kept open, already having plenty of runners in the stable targeting the [Sydney] cup. So bet in the all in markets at your own risk, but wherever he goes he’ll be in it up to his ears.

The son of shocking has been subject to the following moves: $21-$17 Australian Cup and $11-$8 eq. fav. Sydney Cup.

Record: 10:6-1-0

Where to next? 2000m, Randwick City Stakes, 04/03

DON’T JUMP OFF YET SELECTION – COMIN’ THROUGH: Looks even more like a miler this preparation and I hope he’ll improve with fitness, so will punters looking to get their money back as the Fastnet Rock colt was heavily supported (50% win hold), despite a small drift: $3.60-$4 last start.

On face value, it may look as if the extra 200m third up in the Guineas will suit race winner Man From Uncle just as much as Comin’ Through, which is reflected in their early Australian Guineas prices: both $17 into $11. I wouldn’t be diving into these prices however, considering the Randwick Guineas on the same day is a much more logical target, but weather may dictate.

What makes me think that Comin’ Through has more upside out of the race is that he certainly seemed to want to be there more than his first up run. Jumping well and sitting 3rd for the majority of the run, rather than lobbing out the back as he did first start.

It is worrying however that he hasn’t shown any trademark dash like he did when winning the Carbine Club last prep from well back in the field. Perhaps back on top of the ground, out to a mile off a solid tempo will with a long Randwick straight will see him at his best. $11 for the Randwick Guineas would still be a solid price.

Also Derby types, Prized Icon and Inference look very much on target for their longer races.

Record: 5:2-1-1

Where to next? 1600m, Randwick Guineas, 04/03
