SATURDAY RACING HORSES TO FOLLOW: RANDWICK: 25-02-2017Though conditions were terrible in Sydney on Saturday there were certainly plenty of runs that were quite the opposite. It might be hard to trust the form out of this meeting due to the heavy 10 but if the autumn weather is anything like what it was last year then it’s good to have some bog runs on the board. STAYING 2YO SELECTION– DIAMOND TATHAGATA: A very tough win indeed coming from a galloper having only his second career start. Slogging through what was then a heavy 8 up on the speed 3 and 4 wide for most of the trip, the son of Hinchinbrook just nabbed Coruscate ($5.50) on the line. After finishing second to She Will Reign in the Inglis Nursery on Debut at $41, some punters definitely lapped up the early $26 on offer for Saturday’s race. Eventually coming into $18 on the day of the race before scratching’s, as low as $8.50 was bet at the jump. Evidently loves to dig in deep and to get his toe in the ground, I believe Mark Newnham may have a classics horse on his hand. Cannot see him turning the tables on She Will Reign in the slipper, but at $26 (in from $101) could definitely have something on him running a drum if the heavens open up. More so look for him in the later (longer) 2YO races; ATC Sires Produce Stakes ($101-$26) (1400m) and Champagne Stakes (1600m) Record: 2:1-1-0 Replay: Where to next? Open 2YO 1400-1600m SPACE JOB SELECTION – DIXIE BLOSOMS: Can’t look too far past a 6.5L win in a group 2. I concede she had absolutely everything ge her way, soft lead, some of the others probably didn’t go on the heavy 10, but wow, what a win. Having been – painfully - a victim of her own racing pattern on numerous occasions before, Clark showed some good initiative to take up the running after the scratching’s left only 7 runners. Given that this wasn’t her good run on pace (runner-up to Tycoon Tara in last year’s golden pendant after sitting second), perhaps a more forward pattern will emerge from now on. She provided a good result for the punters as she was backed from $3.80 into $3.20 after some key scratching’s in the race. Subsequently he price was also trimmed from $51 into $15 for the Doncaster where she currently would carry only 50kg. Despite the weight pull, she would still likely be better suited against her own sex in the Coolmore Legacy, also over a mile. However if there’s a chance of a bog track and she draws well either would be a good path judging by that run. Although may have to come up against Omei Sword soon, who also ran an absolute slashing race last Saturday, but the latter probably doesn’t appreciate the sting out as much.
