With fine weather forecast and a track rated as a Good 3 racing should be competitive at Sandown on Wednesday. All of the big stables of Hayes, Weir and Waller have runners on a good race card and the top jockeys and apprentices look to have good winning chances – so all makes for an entertaining afternoon of racing excitement.

R2 – 2.00pm. Spicer Thoroughbreds Handicap – 1000m.
No2 TRUE EXCELSIOR This is a tough race to decipher with new runners. She is a well-bred filly who will be forward and on her debut third over 1000m in a fillies’ maiden at Moonee Valley rates well here.
No10 PROPOSAL Is out of the state’s No.1 two-year-old stable and at sole public appearance ran third on a Heavy 9 in a trial at Wangaratta on October 12. Has ace jockey Damien Oliver riding.
No8 PLATINUM ANGEL Showed good pace to win a jump out at Ballarat. She is a $220,000 graduate out of the Gold Coast yearling sale and is by champion sire Snitzel. Trainer Darren Weir will have her tuned.
<12> No4 FREEZE OVER Is a well-bred filly who showed a heap of speed at her jump out at Caulfield on March 21. She has top rider Damian Lane to steer her across from gate nine and respect.

No1 DEVILISHLY (BEST BET) Hails from the leading yard of Team Hayes and ran on solidly to finish second behind the smart winner Bel Burgess over 1533m at Moonee Valley on March 13. Apprentice Ben Allen’s 1.5kg claim reduces his weight to 57.5kg and he should get a nice and easy run up forward and break a string of placings.
No5 CHIMA Has been well-fancied at three runs this campaign and give a chance.
No7 EOLANDE Has the in-form Beau Mertens to ride and his 1.5kg claim sees her on 56kg.
No8 RIVER GODDESS Is better suited here and will be fitter for first-up run.

No3 DOWNHEARTED Came off second best in a two-horse war, when second over 1400m at Pakenham on March 16. Has been most reliable and with Chris Caserta’s 3kg claim carries 58kg.
No5 GREAT SOUTHERN Scored a brilliant win fresh over 1200m at Pakenham on March 16. Gets the hot apprentice Beau Mertens to ride and his claim reduces his impost to 58kg and makes good appeal.
No10 PORT TRIANO Has been in excellent form and capable of going one better than when finishing second over 1300m at Bendigo on March 14. Having Damien Oliver as his new rider is a big plus.
No1 LAUCHETTI Has been winning well at lucrative odds and is chasing a hat-trick here. With Jordan Childs’ 1.5kg claim carries 60.5kg, which is 2.5kg more than when he won over 1300m here on March 13.

No2 NASDEX (NEXT BEST BET) Was at the red hot odds of $1.40 when his winning streak was brought to a halt when running third over 1050m at Morphettville on March 4. He gets top Melbourne rider Damian Lane as his new pilot and has been freshened for this. His stable won the Group 1 BMW in Sydney on the weekend.
No9 ANYWAYS ROSIE Scored a big win off a 525-day spell in the country. Has claims.
No4 GANGSTAR’S CURSE Won well off a 77-day break and with Mitchell Aitken’s claim carries 56.5kg.
No3 EMPEROR’S CHARIOT Usually improves with racing and did not have much luck first-up.

No8 LOST COMMAND Produced a win and two seconds in the provincials before a good fourth over 1600m at Flemington on March 18. Gets top jockey Dwayne Dunn to ride.
No4 LE BOSS Gets a 3kg weight drop to 57kg here on second over 1600m here on March 22. Won at Kilmore three starts ago and has Brad Rawiller to steer again at back up.
No2 LOTION Hails from the top yard of Team Hayes and gets the in-form Beau Mertens to ride. His claim reduces his weight to 56.5kg and warrants on third at Tattura over 1600m on March 19.
No1 ALROUZ Posted an imposing win over 1600m at the odds of $21 here on March 22. With Boris Thornton’s 3kg claim will carry 55.5kg and must rate as an each-way chance again.

No2 AVENUE WHISPER Has drawn well in five to stretch her winning romp after running away with a 1¾ length win over 1300m at Bendigo on March 14. Ben Allen’s claim sees her carry 57kg against her own sex.
No3 JESTER HALO She has a good record of three wins at four starts. She landed consecutive wins this campaign over 1300m at Warnambool on March 17. Makes nice appeal here.
No9 LADY SKILLS Won first-up before finishing a good second over 1300m here on March 15. This three-year-old filly gets senior rider Daniel Stackhouse as her new partner and respect.
No6 GOLD FONTEIN (BEST ROUGHIE) Is a lightly-raced mare with a sound record. Latest ran a good third over 1200m here on February 22. Top jockey Mark Zahra keeps the ride and she drops a kilo to 57.5kg.

No3 ANGASI Carried 58.5kg to win over 1100m at Bendigo on March 14. Gets top apprentice Beau Mertens to ride and his allowance sees her carry 57kg. She is from a top stable and respect.
No7 TRUMP THIS Capped two sound placings with a clever win over 1400m in a 3yo maiden at Ballarat on March 7. Ben Thompson keeps the ride and his 2kg claim sees him carry 57kg.
