BRISBANE BRONCOS vs SYDNEY ROOSTERS - Thursday night 8.05pm, Suncorp

Another week, another round of footy. Gotta love that. Good game to get us under way this week despite both teams being last round losers. Both were sunk only just in their respective matches, so it all points to a cracker between these premiership hopefuls.

With the game in Brisbane, it is hard not to stick with the home side. The wet brought them undone when they had the game in control against the Bulldogs and the Roosters bumped into a red hot Eagles but home ground is a huge plus for the Broncos and I am siding with them. So BRISBANE is the tip.  One things for sure, this will not be a blow out at all, the 1-12 BRONCOS ($3.20+) stands out. It looks incredible value around $3.20.  Got to be on that.

COREY OATES ($12) has had a quiet season compared to last year. I believe he will step up at home and be the first man to put a four pointer on the board, so stick with him to be First Try Scorer.

NEWCASTLE KNIGHTS vs CANTERBURY BULLDOGS - Friday night 6.00pm, McDonald Jones Stadium

Did the Knights give the defending premiers a scare last week? Bloody oath they did! A James Maloney field goal the only difference between the two ends of the spectrum last season.  It pains me to say it because I love Browny, but I still think the Knights will run last. They can put in a good performance at times, but with so much positive energy returning to the ‘family club’ with Dezzy Hasler re-signing for a few more seasons, I will side with the BULLDOGS here.

The rumour mill is swirling with Cooper Cronk heading to Sydney, and the Bulldogs will pull out all stops to land him you would think. This should inspire some off-contract players to really up the ante, if not for a contract renewal, then to put them high in the shop window. It seems my neighbours granny wants $300k+ a season despite the salary cap coming out below expectations. Anyway, BULLDOGS to win.

I will give the Knights some credit and expect them to fight hard at home. Expect them to lift in front of their faithful, I wouldn’t expect too many Dogs supporters.  The Dogs won’t get too far away from them so look to the BULLDOGS 1-12 (around $3.00)

BRETT MORRIS ($10) loves scoring a meat pie, am going to back him to get over the chalk first.

Outright Match Winner:

BULLDOGS

Margin Betting:

BULLDOGS 1-12

First Try Scorer:

BRETT MORRIS

PENRITH PANTHERS vs SOUTH SYDNEY - Friday night 7.50pm, Pepper Stadium

It’s an interesting game. The Rabbitohs head to the foot of the mountains after a gallant effort against the Cowboys. I thought they went ok up there. Penrith got a touch up in Melbourne and return home with a few other issues – Moylan, Hiku and Blake have been sent to the naughty corner for a ‘breach’.  Not too sure what kind of breach, but they find themselves playing NSW Cup this week.

Despite that the Panthers have incredible depth. The cattle they can bring in are class. The Panthers need to hit the go button and now is the time. Back at home they really lift, so I expect the PANTHERS to win and win easily, taking the good odds about PENRITH 13+ (about $3.40)

As for First Try Scorer – I am going to go for a young bloke who has some ability, although spelling his name is challenging enough – DALLIN WATENE-ZELEZNIAK ($11).

Outright Match Winner:

PANTHERS

Margin Betting:

PANTHERS 13+

MANLY SEA EAGLES vs ST GEORGE-ILLAWARRA DRAGONS - Saturday afternoon 3.00pm, La La Land

With the weather forecast good, a nice fast deck at La La Land, two teams in great form – this is going to be a cracking game of football. Manly have woken out of some horrible early season form with some excellent wins recently, whilst the Dragons have made everyone look like fools with their very impressive run of form since round 1.

At the odds here, I think St George are a great price. There is plenty to like about their form and no reason why that cannot continue here. Manly are flying – don’t get me wrong, but La La isn’t the same as Fortress Brookvale. So let’s take the odds against the DRAGONS. Even better than that – you can get nearly $4 about the DRAGONS 1-12. That is superb. I am on.

With an afternoon game and sunny conditions, points are going to flow, and the line of 40.5 looks too tight, so take TOTAL MATCH POINTS OVER 40.5

Finally – JASON NIGHTINGALE ($17). Weapon. Scored the first three last week and knows where the line is. Take him to go La La first.

Outright Match Winner:

DRAGONS

Margin Betting:

DRAGONS 1-12

Total Points Over/Under:

OVER 40.5

First Try Scorer:

JASON NIGHTINGALE

GOLD COAST TITANS vs CANBERRA RAIDERS - Saturday afternoon 5.30pm, Cbus Super Stadium

The Titans have been flogged by injuries in recent times and you just don’t know what side will end up out on the paddock. On face value, the Raiders should win. They are playing top shelf football and playing away doesn’t phase them – they pushed the Broncs within an inch up there recently.

There is just too much chaos to tip the Titans, so I will side with the RAIDERS here and will also go them to win 13+ (above $3.00). They will just steamroll the Gold Coast outfit with their superior speed and finishing.

As such – let’s go with NSW Blues hopeful B J LEILUA ($15.0) to score first.

Outright Match Winner:

RAIDERS

Margin Betting:

RAIDER 13+

First Try Scorer:

B J LEILUA

NORTH QLD COWBOYS vs WESTS TIGERS - Saturday night 7.30pm, 1300Smiles Stadium

Oh the Tigers. Ivan Cleary has been confirmed as the new coach until the end of the 2020 season, he has plenty to deal with in the interim and must pick a very out of sorts side up to deal with the rigurs of the NRL. The way some of these guys are putting their hand out for some big dollars yet maybe not producing the kind of performances that warrant the demanded dollars will add some spice to the equation for Ivan.

As for a betting proposition you just cannot look past the Cowboys. They are very short odds, and don’t want to be taking that, but how can you back the Tigers? How can you? I expect them to put up a decent fight and show something for their new coach, so let’s go for some real value and take the COWBOYS 1-12 ($3.40). This is how to generate good value.

Whilst the Tigers have a horrible habit of capitulating, they know how to come out of the blocks, so a big odds play here – MITCHELL MOSES ($34) – who is off to the Eels next season, will want to impress and can do so by scoring the First Try.

Outright Match Winner:

COWBOYS

Margin Betting:

COWBOYS 1-12

First Try Scorer:

MITCHELL MOSES

NZ WARRIORS vs PARRAMATTA EELS - Sunday afternoon 2.00pm, Mt Smart Stadium

The Warriors showed some real frailty up the middle on the weekend and were well behind the wounded Titans at half time. Parramatta couldn’t run into a better team to snap them out of their season woes than the Warriors. I find it hard to believe Parra are outsiders, but outsiders they are. I think the wide runners in the Eels side could have a field day, and as such I am on PARRAMATTA. When the Eels click, they really can click and a side that can play as much clumsy football as the Warriors can, will be made to pay. I am going to roll with PARRAMATTA 13+ (around $5). This game has TOTAL POINTS OVER 43.5 written all over it. Get on the high side and cheer them the points start to flow.

Finally – BEVAN FRENCH ($10). Electric. Take him to score first.

Outright Match Winner:

PARRAMATTA

Margin Betting:

PARRAMATTA 13+

Total Points Over/Under:

OVER 43.5

First Try Scorer:

BEVAN FRENCH

MELBOURNE STORM vs CRONULLA SHARKS - Sunday afternoon 4pm, AAMI Park

This is a game to open your eyes! Undefeated Melbourne Storm against a very clunky, out of sorts defending premiers in the Sharks. They scraped home last week by a point to everyone’s tip to be wooden spoon and it would be a brave man to tip the Sharks this week, but I am!! I love the Sharks when they are underdogs. They seem to perform best when this is the case (remember vs Raiders away???). So taking same kind of theory into this one – get on the SHARKS

Of course if they do go on to win this game, it will not be a flogging by any stretch. $4 is available on Oddschecker for the SHARKS 1-12. Looks very, very fat.

Finally – First Try Scorer – VAL HOLMES ($15). Will chime in at the right time early doors, and bang!

Outright Match Winner:

SHARKS

Margin Betting:

SHARKS 1-12

First Try Scorer:

VAL HOLMES
