It would appear as though Hawthorn’s dynasty has come to an end.

After winning three straight premierships in the past four years, who would have envisaged Hawthorn would be bottom of the ladder after Round 3 of the 2017 season?

Hawthorn put in their worst performance for a decade last week against Gold Coast in an insipid 86 point defeat last week and simply must bounce back with a win to avoid missing the finals for the first time since 2009.

Geelong has won back-to-back matches against the Hawks after Hawthorn had won four straight, although all the recent form points to Geelong who last week flexed some premiership muscle with a win over Melbourne to maintain their unbeaten start to the season.

Bronwlow medalist Patrick Dangerfield was again brilliant collecting 36 disposals and booting a vital three goals to lead his team to an important win.

These teams are renowned for playing in epic matches and the two clashes in 2016 did not disappoint, with the Cats taking both matches including an after the siren qualifying final where Isaac Smith missed a goal that could have completely changed history.

These games are normally tight and history tells us that ladder position is of little relevance when these two great clubs do battle.

Hawthorn will put everything they have into this game and we think it is worth rolling the dice on them one more time, especially at the line where they are given a 17.5 point start.

If you predict the Hawks will put up a fight we have found some nice betting opportunities including either team Under 15.5, Hawthorn under 39.5 at $3.60 with Crownbet and a Hawks Half-Full double (@ $4.25 with Crownbet).

Last time these teams met Luke Bruest snagged three goals and he is one of many Hawks who can help reverse the team’s form with a big game.

STATS BET

When these teams met in the 2016 finals series, Patrick Dangerfield was brilliant racking up 35 disposals and it is almost hard to see him not racking up the most touches again.
