Gold Coast (Saturday) Betting Preview & Tips

Betting tips for every race at Gold Coast. Today’s best bet is in race 2.

Fri, 5 May, 1:14 AM

The Gold Coast will host one of only four Saturday metropolitan meetings it has each year. This meeting traditionally throws up plenty of rough results. It has big fields on a track which turns almost the whole way. However, at least we know it will be a fair surface and nine times out of ten races are run at a true pace. It gives all horses a chance.

QUADDIES (races 5,6,7,8)

Skinny Play: 2,6/1,5/1,11/3,13

Wide Play: 2,4,6,7/1,5,7,9/1,5,7,11/3,5,6,13

Next Best Bet:  R3 – 4. RISEN

Best Roughie: R5 – 6. STEEL ZIP

R1 – 11.50am. Brandons Bat Out Of Hell - 900m.

No1 HIDDEN PEARL There is no doubt she is the fastest horse in the field and holds two course records at 1000m. Primed for this with recent jump out and has won four of five starts first-up. Forget last start failure back in January when struck trouble.

No5 HIGHLY GEARED Canberra galloper who was good in Sydney last start in a far better field than this. Winner at Canberra previously and suited here.

No10 HIDE THE MOON Speedy northern rivers galloper who won at Grafton and then struck trouble latest when unplaced. Has the pace to be on the speed for a long way.

No4 TOP TONE This is well short of his best distance. But has been kept fresh for this and one drop of rain he would be right in the finish first-up here.

HIDDEN PEARL Gold Coast 02:50 - Winner

R2 – 12.25pm. Gold Cost Turf Club Benchmark 90 Handicap - 1200m.

No2 IRISH CONSTABULARY (BEST BET) One of the most consistent horses in Australia let alone Queensland. He was a good second first-up in a much stronger race and despite weight rise looks too good for these. He is a second-up winner and has won this track.

No1 LONDEHERO He is a funny horse because he has one short sharp sprint and it needs to be timed right. It was a great run in the Listed Weetwood when close-up fourth. The obvious danger to the top one.

No4 MR FAVULOUS Old timer who is back from retirement and racing as well as ever. He was third in a Quality race last start and is a hope here.

No5 HI I'M BACK He has been very consistent of late and not far out of the place when fifth in a much stronger race last time. Needs the pace on and should get that here.

R3 – 1.00pm. Moreton Hire Ken Russell Memorial Classic - 1200m.

No4 RISEN (NEXT BEST BET) Smart two-year-old who trialled brilliantly before first race start when won at Gosford. This is harder but very impressive in trials and race to date. Has the top jockey and the stable has a great strike rate this track.

No2 TAKING AIM This looks the best quinella race of the day. He was good enough to run in the Group One Blue Diamond Stakes after turning in some very good runs in Sydney and Melbourne. This is far easier and he has trialled nicely in Sydney. He has drawn the rails and will be very hard to beat.

No1 EMINENT Promising two-year-old who won two races and was then bogged down on a heavy track when second at last start. Drawn poorly but can come from behind which is a help in this.

No11 RUBY RED HEART Forget last start failure when engaged in a battle in front with another runner and they both stopped. Previous form good enough to be a hope here.

R4 – 1.40pm. 2k Thoroughbred Gold Coast Bracelet - 1800m.

No5 SAVVAN Promising filly who was a strong winner at Canterbury last start. From noted stable who produce stayers. This is tough but she is a horse on the improve and there will be pace here to suit.

No3 DAWN WALL One of three runners for the powerful Chris Waller stable but has the top jockey Hugh Bowman. Draw is no help but appeals as a stayer of the future.

No7 THE PINNACLE She is another who is getting better as the distances get longer. Has been running on heavy tracks in Sydney and the return to a dry surface will help here.

No8 BENFICA PRINCESS She was left in front last start when her usual pattern is to come from behind. It was a good effort to finish third. Looks a stayer of the future and will be good odds again.

R5 – 2.20pm. Australia's Gold Coast Prime Minister's Cup - 1400m.

No2 RELIGIFY Smart Sydney galloper who is resuming here. He has had two trials and both have been solid. He has a very good first-up record and despite big weight should be very hard to beat.

No4 SIEGFRIED Probably the most improved horse in Queensland with wins three of past five starts. Can race up on the pace and not harshly weighted here.

No6 STEEL ZIP (BEST ROUGHIE) Old enough to vote but has been running home strongly in similar races to this. Looking for 1400m now and down in the weights. He has raced well this track previously.

No7 BEATNIKS Honest mare who gets back and runs on in her races. This distance suits and the pace should be on to suit. Any rain would see her right in the betting market.

R6 – 3.00pm. Garrard's Horse and Hound Silk Stocking - 1200m.

No1 NANCY Raced very well in the Sydney autumn against stronger opposition than this. She has had a trial since last start in March. Drawn perfectly for her racing style and looks the one to beat here.

No5 ELEGANT COMPOSURE She has always shown a lot of ability and her recent trial win was the fastest of the morning at Deagon. She is unbeaten from three attempts first-up.

No7 DIVINE CENTURI She has had a few leg problems in her career but she is more than handy. Back on a dry track will suit her here.

No9 INVINCIBLE EXPRESS She has won her past five starts in restricted class. Carried a big weight and six deep most of the way when first-up winner in easier race at Ipswich. Don't ignore in this tough field.

R7 – 3.40pm. Attwood Marshall A.D. Hollindale Stakes - 1800m.

No1 IT'S SOMEWHAT Group One Doncaster Handicap winner on a wet track at his last start back on April 1. He has had a trial since which he won in impressive style. Dry track form is as good as his wet so top chance here.

No11 SINGLE GAZE Group One winning mare who was in strong form when winning last start at Doomben. Suited at the 1800m and should get the run of the race. Looks the main danger here.

No7 RUDY Honest galloper who has been hampered by big weights in most of his races because he has paid for his consistency. Never far away in these races and another suited at 1800m. Any rain would help.

No5 CYLINDER BEACH Far too good in the Toowoomba Cup last start and this is much harder. But is a stayer on the up and will be at his top for this.

IT'S SOMEWHAT Gold Coast 06:40 - Winner

R8 – 4.16pm. Mayford Contracting Gold Coast Guineas - 1200m.

No3 TESSERA Ran some good races in the Melbourne spring last year and was handy first-up in Sydney after two trials. Should be in the finish here.

No13 RIVER RACER Never has any luck in her races but it was the run of the day when nose second at Doomben first up two weeks ago. Too honest to leave out of the chances.

No5 RINGO'S A ROCKSTAR Another great run first-up when had every chance. But he is so honest he is always in the finish these type of races. He has been set for this race for months and top chance here.

No6 GUARD OF HONOUR Had no luck at all from a wide barrier last start at Doomben and drawn off the track again. If things go his way will be hard to hold out late.
