Newcastle for the Saturday provincial meeting. We have eight races on the card and this track has played brilliantly since the redevelopment. We will be on a good surface on raceday and the rail is out 5.5m the circuit.
QUADDIES (races 5-6-7-8)
Skinny Play: 6,11 – 1,7 – 1,2,4 – 1,2,6,8
Wide Play: 6,8,11,12 – 1,6,7,8 – 1,2,4,6 - FIELD
BEST BET: R1 – 1. CURDLED
Next Best Bet: R4 – 1. PALOMINO
Best Roughie: R3 – 3. BIRDSONG
No1 CURDLED (BEST BET) should improve at his second preparation here. He comes out of some good form races at his first two starts and looks super hard to beat on exposed form. The trial leading in was quite good and I think on better going he should be winning.
No5 CHEERS JOYCE trialled well on her home track leading into this, she claims down to 52kgs and has a chance.
No10 MISS CASIER trialled in good fashion at Hawkesbury leading into this. Newman tends to place his horses well and must be respected.
No12 WARTIME LOVERS is really well bred, being out of Military Rose and she has trialled well coming into this. But may need further.
VALUE RUNNER: No10 MISS CASIER
No1 MR TICKETS
VALUE RUNNER: No2 MUTARAKEM
No3 BIRDSONG (BEST ROUGHIE) is fresh into this, but brings good form coming into the race. Form around Invincible Gem and Dawn Wall is good enough, as was the trial coming to this.
No5 EVANESCE started quite short on debut and wasn’t too bad. Coming into a second prep here she should improve.
No7 ISLE OF CAPRI should improve second up out to 1400m here. She was just behind a few good ones there and this is a little weaker.
No4 CAPPELLA MAGNA was 1000m-1400m very quickly last start and went down by the barest margin. She should be improved here.
VALUE RUNNER: No 3 BIRDSONG
No1 PALOMINO (NEXT BEST BET) should handle this lot with ease given the form she brings to this. She has Group 1 winners all around her and has trialled brilliantly coming into this. If she is wound up fresh she could well blow this lot away.
No3 BELLE TOURNURE has trialled well leading into a debut run here. I like how she had her latest trial over 1045m.
No7 OFF THE DIAL takes on the older horses here and has trialled well enough leading in. The stable must have an opinion of her to take on the older ones on debut.
No4 WHAT A SISTER hasn’t shown a hell of a lot at the trials, but I am trusting K Lees to have her right come race day.
VALUE RUNNER: No 7 OFF THE DIAL
No11 SAUCY LADY
No6 SMOOTH WHISKEY
No12 SO SPLENDID
VALUE RUNNER: No6 SMOOTH WHISKEY
No5 CHARGE OF LIGHT
No7 SWORN IN
No6 THORN IN MY SIDE
No8 LAST CARD JOE
VALUE RUNNER: No8 LAST CARD JOE
No2 MOONLIGHT WALTZ ran home in ripping time last start, if she takes some confidence out of the win she looks hard to beat.
No1 DIVERGENCE took on a pretty handy race first-up and didn’t run too badly albeit a last. She comes well back in grade here and has a chance second-up.
No4 PENNY STAR starts in this race on debut, yet there is a 1200m maiden earlier on? They must have an opinion of her. She gets the blinkers and I’m wary.
No6 LONGCHAMP LASS should run well here on her home track. The form around her is quite good and she looks set to peak third-up.
VALUE RUNNER: No4 PENNY STAR
No1 STRICTLY CONCERT
No8 RED KNOT
No6 COLOUR OF MONEY
VALUE RUNNER: No8 RED KNOT
