DAY RACING HORSES TO FOLLOW: ROSEHILL: 06-05-2017
Saturday racing at Rosehill produced what was most likely a good day for punters with some heavily backed gallopers finding the line first; Bonny O’Reilly ($3.50-$2.90) and Viridine ($7.50-$4.80) to name a couple.
The track played very typical of a good Rosehill surface: certainly, no advantage to be up on the speed but if the pace was on then there were no problems running on out wide as evidenced by Black on Gold’s win in the 3rd race.
LIKELY MISSED IT SELECTION – BERRY DELICIOUS: After jumping particularly slowly this mare was struggling to tack onto the back of the field over the 1350m, begin some 2-3L out the back for most of the trip.
It wasn’t until the final 50m where she really got going and ran one of the better 7th placings you’d want to see given the circumstances. Still finishing well beaten by 4.2L, she should derive good improvement after being first up on the back of two trails last weekend.
The last of which she beat home another one of our black bookers in Spectroscope. Although it was only a trial it’s still enough to say she’s doing something right.
Starting a despised $41 chance on the weekend, having gone around at huge odds in group races last preparation her SP profile should ensure we continue to get decent odds about her.

FLASHING LIGHT SELECTION – MACHINEGUN JOBS: This had to be the run of the day. Jockey, trainer or connections correctly identified plenty of pace in the race so that despite jumping well she was restrained back last and allowed to enjoy the speed up front.
When Jockey Blake McDougal asked this mare for an effort boy did she let down. Steaming home to just miss the afore mentioned well tried Bonny O’Reilly by 0.4L. With the final 600m being run in a smart 33.97s.
Not only will we be banking on the fast race giving reliable form but the two she split: Bonny O’Reilly and In Times of War are both smart gallopers ticking along excellently in their own right. So I’d be very surprised if the form out of this races doesn’t stack up very well in the coming month or so.
Her record and SP profile suggests she’s a winner: winning 4 from 12 and starting at no more than $4.50 in her career prior to this start, so being a post-race punter for a moment, how was she $17 back on top of the ground after one poor run on a bottomless track?
She’ll be winning a stakes race sooner than later.
