Scone Cup day and the two-day carnival from the Hunter Valley is upon us. Friday is more of a prelude to the big money day on Saturday, even though we have the Scone Cup and the Inglis Challenge for the 2yos. Big competitive fields and all the big boys are here! Rail true, track good. Let’s get into it.
QUADDIES (races 5-6-7-8)
Skinny Play: 1,6 – 2,8 – 1 – 1,5,13
Wide Play: 1,2,3,6 – 2,4,5,8 – 1,7,9,12 – 1,2,5,7,13,15,16,17
BEST BET: R2 – 9. STAR OF MONSOON
Next Best Bet: R1 – 4. DECEPTACON
Best Roughie: R3 – 2. I AM LEXUS
No4 DECEPTACON (NEXT BEST BET) should be better experienced for the debut run and gets blinkers on here for the second start. She was a really well backed fav on debut and had the bias against her. Gate 10 isn't much of an issue for mine as its one turn start to finish.
No1 LOCUS was good on debut at Gold Coast, he should take up the speed from gate seven here and give them something to run down.
No6 TRILLI FILLY ran home in fast time on debut, being trained at the track she has an advantage. The gate (11) is a touch tricky.
No2 LUCK’S A CHANCE has been trialing up in good fashion for a debut run here. He has a lot of gear on for a debut run and is ready to go.
VALUE RUNNER: No2 LUCK’S A CHANCE
No9 STAR OF MONSOON (BEST BET) finally runs in a maiden this time in after taking on black type racing for most of his career. He should have won a race by now, but has run into horses like Spright, Eckstien. If he wants to win, he will!
No3 SKIFIELD ran on well in nice time last start. From gate 1 with blinkers on he should be somewhere in the finish.
No4 MOUNT PANORAMA is close to becoming a laughing stick, was he unlucky the other day? Or did he turn it up?
No10 THAI BOXING looks next best here and should be able to improve second-up.
VALUE RUNNER: No3 SKIFIELD
No2 I AM LEXUS (BEST ROUGHIE) really ran on in fast time on debut. The step up to 1100m is suitable and he should take a lot of benefit from start one.
No5 BURDEN OF PROOF comes out of the same race as I Am Lexus last start and found the line well also, 1100m looks to suit.
No14 ICELAND trialled ok enough in September behind Chain Of Fools. No trials coming in and blinkers on debut from B Cavanough – I’m weary!
No4 EXCELAMOUR has been good in both runs to date and has gone 900m-1000m and now to 1100m. The booking of Avdulla adds to his chances.
VALUE RUNNER: No2 I AM LEXUS
No2 MATE STORY got the job done for us on debut at $101. The win was dominant and he can go on with it here.
No4 PLEASED gets the blinkers on here and finds Avdulla. He drops in grade and should be closer in the run up to 1600m.
No11 ONLY CHOICE comes to this after running in a strong highway last start. The step now to 1600m suits as does a dry track.
No3 WAVE REVIEWS found the line well enough on debut in Australia. This is a drop back in grade for him and Scone suits.
VALUE RUNNER: No11 ONLY CHOICE
No1 CADOGAN is back to torment me this prep. He has been gelded this time in and has trialled well. Collett will save him for one shot at them.
No6 TIME OUT OF MIND is a nice horse who was good enough upon resumption, he should be improved for that effort.
No3 ONCE MORE A LADY didn’t have the best of luck when resuming in quick time. Second-up she should be hard to beat.
No2 GHOSTLY has really trialled well coming into this. He has found a hot race to run in, but will be in the finish.
VALUE RUNNER: No6 TIME OUT OF MIND
No2 POUND STERLING comes out of a brutal race last start and I like how Waller has gapped the run allowing him to get over it. This is his chance to win.
No4 BRULEE has talent, but doesn’t always show it. If she can run up to her best she will fight out the finish.
No5 PALLADIAN just missed in a driving finish last start. This is a step back in grade and he has his chance.
No8 SISKEN has won both starts quite well this time in and she is a mare in form who will be hard to beat.
VALUE RUNNER: No4 BRULEE
No1 FABRIZIO has found his form and should continue to improve, third-up to 1600m he should be even fitter. He will lead them up and run them into the ground.
No7 GREEN SWEET didn’t handle the heavy going last start in the JRA Plate. Back to 1600m is my concern, but his two previous runs were brilliant.
No9 MOHER looks set to peak third-up from a spell here. He gets a weight swing on Fabrizio and gets McEvoy.
No12 DUCA VALENTINOIS should enjoy getting on a much more even surface here. He also may have been flat last start after a booming fresh run?
VALUE RUNNER: No7 GREEN SWEET
No5 AFTER ALL THAT just needs to find an ounce of luck and he will be winning this. He has been running well and has a chance.
No1 TIMELESS PRINCE won this race two years ago and is well weighted after the claim for Heywood, the win at Tamworth was quite good.
No13 STAR REFLECTION comes out of a good race last start. She drops 5.5kgs for that run and has to be given a chance here.
No16 EXITOZO drops a massive 8kgs off last start run. That looks to be a good form race and with the weight differential he won’t know who he is.
VALUE RUNNER: No13 STAR REFLECTION
