Doomben (Saturday) Betting Preview & Tips

Betting tips for every race at Doomben. Today’s best bet is in race 4.

Fri, 2 Jun, 2:04 AM

This is traditionally the second biggest meeting of the year with all races carrying black type. However, this year the meeting has been transferred from Eagle Farm to Doomben because the Eagle Farm track is, frankly, a mess. It means changes in distances and field sizes.

However, at least we know the track will play fairly for most of the day and be a good surface. This meeting also usually produces a lot of upset results.

QUADDIES (races 5,6,7,8)

Skinny Play: 1,2/1,8/2/1,6

Wide Play: 1,2,5,11/1,8,10,12/1,2,12,13/1,4,6,8

Next Best Bet: R1 – 1. PARDOE

Best Roughie: R7 – 12. BLANCO CARA

R1 – 12.12pm. Bracken Ridge Tavern The Phoenix - 1350m.

No1 PARDOE (NEXT BEST BET) Has been very good for us winning his past three starts in good fashion. Suited by the race coming back from 1500m at Eagle Farm to 1350m at Doomben where he won last start. Also suited by the weight scale here.

No5 MAGNUFIGHTER Was good odds last start when finished well for fifth this track. Drier track suits and fitter now.

No11 ITALIA BELLA Has had only two starts but both were in stakes races and she had no luck when racing well in both. Gets her chance to win here at 1350m.

No4 SNITZEPEG From a top Victorian stable and raced well in a good race in Adelaide last start. We are usually careful with Victorian youngsters having first go clock wise but definitely a chance here.

PARDOE (NEXT BEST BET) Doomben 03:12 - Winner

R2 – 12.47pm. JRA Bill Carter Stakes - 1200m.

No4 CELLARGIRL Had a big wrap on her last campaign and looks to have come back an even better horse with recent trial win. Won first-up at good odds last campaign and well drawn here.

No2 REAL PRINCESS Had no luck second-up when unplaced at Doomben in a handy race and is back against her own sex.

No6 SKATE TO PARIS Just failed to catch a very smart colt when second this track last start. Should be running home hard here.

No7 SHE'S OUR STAR Went far too hard in the lead when dropped out to finish well back in a Group Two stakes race last start. Continues to work very well and chance back in this grade.

R3 – 1.22pm. City Property Services Spear Chief Handicap - 1630m.

No11 GULLY COMMAND This is far harder than recent races but he is a last-start winner this track. Also goes very well at 1600m and has an ideal barrier draw. Must be a top hope.

No4 BERRY DELICIOUS Has struggled at times at 1600m but that distance at this track is pretty easy. Good Rosehill second last start gives him a great chance.

No1 HIGH MIDNIGHT Excellent run behind in form Jungle Edge in a tougher race last start and is out to a distance which suits. The stable is having a good winter carnival.

No7 MARYORE Handy mare who hasn't been far away in last couple of races and this isn't much harder. Just needs some luck from the tricky barrier.

R4 – 2.00pm. Pages Event Equipment Hire P J O'Shea Stakes - 2200m.

No4 RUDY (BEST BET) Ran a great race when third in the Doomben Cup last start. These small weight for age fields can be run at a snail's pace but Rudy is one who can lead or take a sit. This looks an ideal race for him.

No5 SINGLE GAZE Winner this track back in April and then good second in the Hollindale Stakes followed by a fair effort in the Doomben Cup when got into wrong part of the wet track.

No1 PREFERMENT Good run in the Hollindale and then missed the Doomben Cup because of a wet track. Probably looking for further now but he is a class act and has won three Group One races.

No2 CYLINDER BEACH Young stayer on the up who battled away when mid field in the Doomben Cup. He has a very good turn of foot.

R5 –2.40pm. Amgrow Lightning Handicap - 1050m.

No2 UPSTART PRIDE Very fast horse who led the Group One Doomben 10,000 to the turn. On his day would run this field into the ground and drawn to do that here.

No5 PROMPT RETURN Could not go a yard in the wet last start but previous start ran sensational sectional in winning at the Gold Coast. Has the inside barrier and a top jockey.

No11 INVINCIBLE EXPRESS Showed a lot of fight to lead until the shadows of the post this track last start. Has the speed to overcome a wide barrier.

No14 SNITTY KITTY very consistent 3yo filly. She's only missed the placing twice from eight starts. Will be competitive.

R6 – 3.20pm. Ascot Green Moreton Cup - 1200m.

No11 ATTENTION Smart three-year-old who is off to stud after the winter. Good fourth first-up in the Gold Coast Guineas and has since won a trial in handy fashion.

No10 DEPLOY He has been racing very well with two wins and a second from past three starts in easier company. But looks well up to winning this.

No1 DOTHRAKI Honest galloper who always races well when he visits Brisbane. Good effort when third at Scone last month and has won a trial since.

No8 THE VIRGINIAN Placed in last year's Stradbroke Hcp and a brilliant winner first-up this track. Stepping up in grade here but is a horse with huge talent.

R7 – 3.59pm. Treasury Brisbane Queensland Oaks - 2200m.

No2 EGG TART A most promising staying filly who was strong winner in Adelaide last start and has since had an easy trial. The fact this race has been shortened to 2200m is in her favour and she looks hard to beat.

No12 BLANCO CARA (BEST ROUGHIE) Winner in far easier race last start but showed he was up to this when fifth in the Gold Coast Bracelet when should have finished closer. Looks good value here.

No1 KENEDNA Survived a protest last start to win the Doomben Roses. She has been most consistent and obvious danger here. It was a hard run last start but from a top stable.

No13 SHENANDOAH Late entry for this race and with good reason as she had no luck at all in the Doomben Roses when fourth. Strong stayer.

R8 – 4.33pm. IPG Marketing Solutions Helen Coughlan Stakes - 1200m.

No4 BIDII BABE Stormed home to win last start when didn't have much luck and reportedly has worked brilliantly this week.

No8 BONNY O'REILLY Has been racing very well in Sydney where she has won her past four starts. Stepping up in class here but is most promising.

No6 ELEGANT COMPOSURE Two runs from a spell have been better than they look on paper. Still trying to get out after being held up for a run this track last start.

No12 MATERNAL was a last start winner by 3L in a BM-85 here. Has been a bit hot and cold this prep but could be hard to hold out if she brings her best.
