Doomben (Saturday) Betting Preview & Tips
Betting tips for every race at Doomben. Today’s best bet is in race 6.
This is the biggest meeting of the year which has been moved from Eagle Farm to the smaller Doomben. It has meant a change in some distances and field sizes. On the plus side the Doomben track has been playing very fairly in its role as a fill in. We can bet with some confidence in most races. There are three Group Ones so there is plenty of quality in those races.

Best Roughie: R7 – 7. FONTEIN LAD
R1 – 11.20am. James Boag's Premium Daybreak Lover Stakes - 1200m.
No2 TACTICAL ADVANTAGE Has a horror barrier draw here but very impressive winner only start this track. Just needs a touch of luck to win this.
No3 CALANDA Didn't handle the Eagle Farm track last start and at his previous start at Scone was deep the whole way. Much better than those two runs indicate.
No5 I'M A RIPPA Showed pace and fought on bravely for a third in a Listed race here last start. Will be on the pace for most of the way. He loves this track.
No6 MOUNT PANORAMA He has always shown ability and stormed home to win a much easier race at the Gold Coast last time. He will be good odds here but hard to beat.
VALUE RUNNER: No6 MOUNT PANORAMA
R2 – 11.55am. Makers Mark Hinkler Handicap - 1200m.
No5 NANCY Has been scratched a few times recently due to wet tracks and bad barriers. This time which gets the right conditions and a quality mare on her day from a top stable.
No14 TREVINDER It has been a while since he last won but has plenty of pace and drawn well here. Just needs to find a half-length to win this.
No1 MISS COVER GIRL Recently sold as a broodmare and sent back to trainer to have one more crack at winning the Group One Tatts Tiara in a fortnight. She won it last year but is racing nowhere near as well. Would want to do something today or she will be straight off to the stud.
No4 QUATRONIC Very smart horse who has won his past two starts in good company and beat last week's Group Two winner Deploy at Scone. The barrier is the only worry here.
VALUE RUNNER: No14 TREVINDER
R3 – 12.30pm. RadioTAB The Wayne Wilson - 1600m.
No6 MOHER Good effort at Rosehill and Scone at his past two starts in good company. Gets in well here at the weights and 1600m around Doomben suits.
No3 COL 'N'LIL Tough little mare who was sold recently as a broodmare but will have one more campaign with a new stable. She was a good Eagle Farm winner last start and does race well this track.
No1 RELIGIFY Didn't go one metre in the Eagle Farm bog last time and has much better form than that including his previous start when won at the Gold Coast.
No10 MYSTIC OPAL Got hit in the face by a clod at last start at Eagle Farm. Much better than that run and suited with pace assured here early.
VALUE RUNNER: No10 MYSTIC OPAL
R4 – 1.05pm. Bundaberg Rum Dane Ripper Stakes - 1350m.
No9 BONNY O'REILLY She is an emergency for the Group One Stradbroke Handicap. But if she runs here will be very hard to beat as has won past five starts in very good fashion.
No1 TYCOON TARA Quality mare who didn't handle Eagle Farm last start. Back against her own sex here and looks very hard to beat.
No15 SMART AMELIA Never seems to have much luck but can hit the line hard when gets a clear passage. There will be plenty of pace here which should suit. She has not been out of the place past five starts in easier races.
No2 FRENCH EMOTION Another high quality mare who has been racing well in Victoria. Has had a trial this clock wise way of going and should be hard to hold out.
VALUE RUNNER: No15 SMART AMELIA
R5 – 1.40pm. Ascot Green Queensland Guineas - 1600m.
No4 NICCANOVA Brilliant last-start winner of the Fred Best Classic. He is lightly raced but looks to be very hard to beat here on last-start win.
No12 RIVER RACER Has been getting too far back in her races but has a big finish. She was fourth in the Fred Best and if ridden closer can nearly win this.
No3 OINK Another who has been getting a long way back in his races but hot the line well when fifth in the Fred Best Classic. He has some class about him and must be a hope in this company.
No1 DREAMS APLENTY Had a horror run in the Fred Best when got clobbered by back fill at Eagle farm. Previous form excellent and has the pace to overcome the bad barrier.
VALUE RUNNER: No3 OINK
R6 – 2.20pm. BMW J J Atkins - 1600m.
No13 MELODY BELLE (BEST BET) Connections had to pay a late entry fee for her but it should be well worthwhile. She was New Zealand's best two year old before winning the BRC Sires in a jog trot last start. No reason she won't run a strong 1600m and should handle Doomben just as well as last start at Eagle Farm.
No1 TAKING AIM Had to come from a wide barrier when second in the BRC Sires. He was well beaten by Melody Belle but look better placed on a dry track and around Doomben. The main danger here.
No4 EMINENT Don't be fooled by his recent form as he has been dogged by bad barriers and unsuitable tracks. Has raced well this track and is finally drawn a good barrier. Reportedly working well and will be big odds here. Has a real chance here to run the quinella with the top selection.
No3 CAPITAL GAIN Got a long way back again when handy effort for fifth in the BRC Sires. He has been crying out for 1600m but won't want to get too far back.
VALUE RUNNER: No4 EMINENT
R7 – 3.00pm. Channel 7 Queensland Derby - 2200m.
No1 VOLATILE MIX The South Australian Derby winner who also isn't suited by the race being shortened in distance. Just missed when second in the Grand Prix and had a solid trial on Tuesday. Ready to run a big race.
No3 BLACK ON GOLD Yet another horse who just didn't handle a wet track last time. Stable has a big wrap on him and he looks very hard to beat if this is a genuine staying test.
No6 SHOCKING LUCK Brilliant winner this track in the Rough Habit Plate and then didn't handle Eagle Farm last start. Go better here on a dry track.
No7 FONTEIN LAD (BEST ROUGHIE) Good winner at Ipswich last start and will be improved by run this way of going. This field has fallen away in quality and he gets his chance to win a Group One here.
VALUE RUNNER: No7 FONTEIN LAD
R8 – 3.40pm. UBET Stradbroke Handicap - 1350m.
No1 CLEARLY INNOCENT Has a bit against him here but is the only Group One winner in the field and demolished the opposition in the Kingsford Smith Cup. Meets many of his rivals that day worse at the weights but he was so dominant it is hard to tip against him. Wide barrier shouldn't be a worry.
No4 COUNTERATTACK Never runs a bad race and was third in the Kingsford Smith Cup which followed a second in the Doomben 10,000. He has been trying to win a Group One for a good while but this is pretty weak by elite standards. Gets another genuine chance here.
No13 EYGPTIAN SYMBOL This is a race which is often won by lightly weighted horses. Fillies and mares have a good record in it and she showed she was ready to win with her unlucky last-start second. Looks the best roughie in the race.
No10 ULMANN This is harder than recent races but down in the weights and will be suited by the dry track and plenty of early speed.
VALUE RUNNER: No13 EYGPTIAN SYMBOL
R9 – 4.20pm. Evergreen Turf Brisbane Cup - 2200m.
No3 BENZINI (NEXT BEST BET) Won this race last year and has followed a similar path this time. Looked sure to score when hit the lead at the top of the straight at Eagle Farm last start and got bogged down. Up in the weights this year but has claims again.
No2 RUDY He was making a winning run last week in the O'Shea Stakes when he was hit by a horse which had broken down. It knocked him off stride but he recovered to be a very good second. Loves Doomben and a real chance here.
No5 NEVERLAND Class galloper who hasn't been far behind some handy horses at past three starts. This has been the main mission and despite distance being shortened to 2200m looks very hard to beat.
No11 ZAMBEZI WARRIOR Honest Kiwi stayer who hasn't run a bad race in Australia. Suited by light weight and a dry track.
VALUE RUNNER: No5 NEVERLAND
