The only Saturday metropolitan meeting held at Ipswich, it is notorious for producing upset results. The reason is big fields and a tight track which means the steward's report often runs to pages. There has also been a lot of rain at Ipswich this week which, surprisingly, means it often favours horses who swoop late. On the plus side there is usually plenty of early pace and races are run truly.

Best Roughie: R9 – 4. BANDA SPICE
No8 BARNSLEY This is a very even race with probably ten chances but Barnsley was a strong winner last time, handles soft tracks and has a top jockey who rode a treble this meeting last year. One of the better chances.
No11 BELFLYER Failed last start at the Sunshine Coast but has good form this track and has a solid soft track record.
No15 FLEUR D'ORAGE It depends how wet the track is by this race. She is very good on heavy tracks and just fair on anything else. Has to be kept safe.
No6 UNO BEST Consistent and looks like this type of race will suit him. Placed past three Toowoomba and Gold Coast and having first start this track. He doesn't want it too wet.
VALUE RUNNER: No11 BELLFLYER
No6 WILLIAM WALLACE Kiwi galloper who ran right over them in the straight for a big win at the Sunshine Coast last start. Can win this if able to come deep and swoop. A soft track is no worry.
No5 CHEVAL LE VENT Has been disappointing this campaign but is gradually getting fitter. Handy fourth last start at the Sunshine Coast and has won two races this track.
No4 SUNNY VICTORY Scored an overdue win this track last start and does have a good strike rate at Ipswich. Very good on soft tracks.
No10 SNITZEL KNIGHT A former Sydney galloper who has some handy form there. Has trialled fairly for this but stable rarely knock their horses around in trials. Handles wet tracks and has won first-up.
VALUE RUNNER: No4 SUNNY VICTORY
No2 LORD COCONUTS Had a trial before two handy runs back from a spell. This distance suits and drawn to get the run of the race from what is a tricky start.
SCRATCHED No4 LOTHARIO Was racing well before last start Gold Coast win and stepping up to 1600m here is a plus. Has never won on soft going but has been placed on it five times.
No6 STEAMIN' Good winner this track before going to Warwick Farm in Sydney where was bogged down. Has a top jockey and good barrier. Hard to beat as also handles soft tracks.
No8 CALL THE CAPTAIN Very good second at Rosehill in Sydney last start and has raced well in Brisbane on previous occasions. Another who looks well placed in a hard race.
VALUE RUNNER: No6 STEAMIN'
SCRATCHED No12 DARKTOWN STRUTTER (BEST BET) Smart filly who was second in a trial before winning by six-lengths this track at first run back from a spell. She is very smart and has a good barrier. Also has the advantage of having a run on this very tricky track.
No6 REVENIRE Godolphin youngster who won at Gosford and was then a solid fifth at Rosehill next start. Drawn to get the run of the race here.
No1 ACCEPTILE Did not run a bad race in seven starts at first campaign. Hasn't run since a second at Doomben in March but has trialled nicely for a return here.
No3 INITIALIZE Promising two year old but has a horror barrier draw here. Beat a good field at the Sunshine Coast last start and won his only start on a soft track.
VALUE RUNNER: No1 ACCEPTILE
No3 SIR DONALD (NEXT BEST BET) Very promising horse who has won five from eight starts and both runs since a spell at the Gold Coast. Looks a future star and nicely drawn for his racing style here. Also gets in with the minimum weight after 3kgs claim.
No1 WITH A PROMISE Beat a good field of older mares when won the Silk Stocking at the Gold Coast and then got lost in a stakes race at Doomben next start. Back to own age group here.
No4 TIYATROLANI Hard to line her up as she was a good winner at Doomben three runs back but latest couple just solid. Has drawn barrier one and could easily lead here.
No9 PRUE'S ANGEL Stablemate of Tiyatrolani who is unbeaten in two runs this track and at the Gold Coast. This is far harder but she does show promise.
VALUE RUNNER: No9 PRUE'S ANGEL
No4 BOLD AND GROOVY Has been racing very well in Rockhampton where he has won his past two starts and this distance is ideal for him now. Wet track form is solid without winning.
No6 WAR BABY Honest old mare who is very effective on wet tracks. Usually about the place these type of races and getting fitter for recent racing.
No2 ALLZIN has been very strong at the finish in three wins of late at Newcastle, Tamworth and Sunshine Coast. But has a very tricky barrier draw from this start with a relatively short run to the first turn. Still a good chance here but just needs luck.
No8 I FEEL GOOD Has shown staying ability in harder races than this and was solid at the finish when last start Sunshine Coast winner. Not sure this track will suit but still one of the better hopes.
VALUE RUNNER: No8 I FEEL GOOD
No2 JUMBO PRINCE ran second in this race last year. Has a big weight here but looks only one of two class runners. Forget last start failure at Eagle Farm and go on previous good form including a dead heat win in the Weetwood in April.
No1 BENZINI By far the class runner of the field. But will have to break a 55 years hoodoo for top weights and also create a modern day weight carrying record to win the Ipswich Cup. But wasn't far away in last year's Hong Kong Vase and that is good enough form to win this. Fitter for two runs and a trial since coming here.
No5 FELTRE His recent form hasn't been good but he is from a good stable of stayers and he does like soft tracks. Looks a value each-way hope.
No3 SORT AFTER From a top Sydney stable and good second in Adelaide last start. Only down side is a tricky barrier here as the first corner is after a relatively short run and any horse caught deep usually gets on the wrong leg.
VALUE RUNNER: No5 FELTRE
No6 THE VIRGINIAN Missed a run in the Stradbroke Handicap last week after great first-up win and then a fourth in the Moreton Cup. Fitter now and has won on a heavy track.
No4 FEDERAL Hasn't been away in better races than this of late. Should have finished closer in the Group Two Moreton Cup last start and this distance is ideal now.
No1 SHIRAZ Good fifth first-up at Rosehill. He has a big weight but is a Group One placegetter and is suited in a race like this. Likes wet tracks but capable in any going.
No13 TOP TONE He will be big odds here but has been racing well in easier races with no luck at all. Loves it wet, the 1350m is perfect at this stage of his campaign and has won this track.
VALUE RUNNER: No13 TOP TONE
No1 KINSACHI Very good run behind a smart mare in a Doomben stakes race two weeks ago. Has solid Sydney form and this is the easiest race she has faced for a while.
No4 BANDA SPICE (BEST ROUGHIE) At second run back from a spell was very strong at the finish when fourth in a Doomben stakes race two weeks ago. Probably should have run second. She will be big odds here but has a good hope.
No8 QUEEN OF WANDS Formerly trained in Sydney but now based on the Gold Coast. Good winner in much easier race first start for new stable. But has always had a wrap on her and suited here.
SCRATCHED No13 CRIQUETTE Facing a huge step up in class here but down in the weights. Looked like being a star before being injured. Has won two and been third in three runs back so getting fitter.
VALUE RUNNER: No8 QUEEN OF WANDS
