Midweek racing comes to us from Canterbury on Wednesday, we have seven races on the card and in what is the norm at this time of year, smaller fields throughout the day, the early maidens looks intriguing. The rail is +6m the circumference and the track will be soft. For a best bet, we will have to wait until the last for the Godolphin mare Philosophy who looks stakes class bound.
QUADDIES (races 4-5-6-7)
Skinny Play: 5,6 - 1 - 1,3 - 13
Wide Play: 1,3,5,6 - 1,3,6 - 1,3,4,7 - 1,2,9,13
BEST BET: R7 – 13. PHILOSOPHY
Next Best Bet: R2 – 1. AUCHENTOMAN
Best Roughie: R1 – 10. VELOCANO
No8 SASSO CORBARO gets Bowman on debut here and has been trailing up in good fashion coming into a debut run and looks hard to beat.
No10 VELOCANO (BEST ROUGHIE) will be over the odds here given Waller, Snowden have runners. But this horse has been doing a really good job at the trials.
No7 ORDOS HONOR comes out of a good race on debut in which the form should hold up well and gets a good run here on the map.
No3 BOOROOJ drifted in the market fresh and ran like it, he also loses Bowman. But should be improved for the first-up run.
VALUE RUNNER: No10 VELOCANO
No1 AUCHENTOMAN (NEXT BEST BET) has been fantastic in both trials jumping and running, and doing it under his own steam. T Clark knows what this horse has under the hood, and from barrier 7 he should cruise across here and dominate the race. We could see a nice horse here.
No2 BLAZERAY has been doing a good job at the trials and is drawn to get a good run of the race.
No5 KENNEDY should be improved for the first-up run and comes out of good form races early on.
No6 LEAGUE OF NATIONS was good enough on debut behind Star Sensation and has trialled well.
VALUE RUNNER: No6 LEAGUE OF NATIONS
No1 SOLEADO missed the kick in his Austalian debut by five and only got beaten three-lengths. Good jockey change and up in distance here give him his chance in a weak race.
No5 MUTARAKEM has been thereabouts in recent runs and being trained by Waller he is the nominal fav here.
No2 LEUCURA gets good weight relief and comes out of the same race as Mutarakem last start.
No6 ZERO TO TEN looks the nominal leader here and drops well in grade from his last-start effort.
VALUE RUNNER: No1 SOLEADO
No5 QUEEN OF HEIGHTS won well last start finally breaking her maiden status. She is adept in all forms of going and should take the next step here.
No6 WORD GAMES beat Queen Of Heights last start in a maiden here and the step up to 1900m shouldn’t be an issue.
No1 SAN PABLO is the leader here and has trialled well between runs. He drops back to 3yo level and should find this much easier.
No3 PROMETHEUS beat the rest of the field easily last start, only issue he was ten-lengths behind the winner. He is going well and has his chance.
VALUE RUNNER: No6 WORD GAMES
No1 CISTMONTANE jumps sharply to 1900m here, but looks to get all favours in the run as the leader and could skip away with the race.
No3 ESTIKHRAAJ well what can you say, he was home on the turn, and gave it up late. He could be the new “No Return” and looks a place lock.
No6 ALFDEN has been in good form on his home track and gets a good weight drop here and has his chance.
No2 EL NOVIO drops in grade here and has been going ok enough this time in and from gate 1 Avdulla should have him just behind them
VALUE RUNNER: No6 ALFDEN
No1 PICARDY ROSE drops out of a good race last start where she wasn’t too far off Just Dreaming who has won again, good claim for Innes helps here.
No3 PIPING HOT resume off a trial and a year off. She looks to have come back in good form this time in and has her chance.
No7 LA CHICA BELLA has done all she needs to do in two starts winning both. You have to like the way she won at Gosford in her first NSW start and should improve for that run.
No4 SHARPNESS won well upon resumption at Warwick Farm. The form should hold up from the race and she should be improved after the fresh win.
VALUE RUNNER: No3 PIPING HOT
No13 PHILOSOPHY (BEST BET) did a good job last time in when she was coming off a long spell. She looks to have come back better this time in given the way she has been trialing. She will want the ground to dry out a touch. But from gate 6 Brown should have her two pairs back in the run and she can power over the top of them.
No9 MEGA MALL did a good job at the end of her last prep winning three on end. The trial at Randwick was quite slick.
No2 DORF STAR has trialled in good fashion coming into the fresh run here. Angland seemed to click with her last time in.
No1 O’RACHAEL may well be scratched due to the gate, but has trialled well coming into the first Australian start and brings across good NZ form.
