Flemington hosted Saturday metropolitan racing over last Saturday and the good 4 surface played quite well, with no major bias that has plagued some meetings this season. Of those races down the straight it did seem that those who took runs closer to the outside fence had the advantage, finally some use of the outside irrigation lane.

It was another profitable day for our black book with Blue Tycoon grabbing third at the good odds of $11 ($3.30 place), whilst Cannyescent ($3) added another win to what has been a stellar preparation. Will be continuing to back both moving forward.

MARE BACK IN FORM SELECTION? – TSARITSA:

Made a name for herself by putting 3 wins together around this time last year (winning the QLD guineas) and has since competed in almost only open class races where she hasn’t won but has been far from disgraced.

Dropped back to a BM90 last weekend (the lowest grade she has contested since 21/05/2016) and ran a good second by only 1.3L, giving the winner 7kg. The late $6.50-$9.50 drift in betting also suggests that she’ll come on from the run fitness wise.

Jumping from barrier 3 and settling some 5L off the leading pair one off the fence, (behind the eventual winner) no excuses for her could be made in the run. However, as we get deeper into winter the quality of mares she’s like to face will be no tougher. Has won up to a mile but off the 3 week freshen prior to this, perhaps one more over the 1400m before stretching her out is the way to go.

Record: 17:4-3-2

BEHIND A SMART ONE SELECTION – TYPHOON JOLIE:

Sent out at the massive price of $61 and was essentially unwanted in a market dominated by the favourite and eventual winner Cannyescent.

Put in another good effort at huge odds in finishing only 2.1L behind the winner on the back of a 4th placing in a Group 3 in Adelaide where she was $81. Jumped with them from barrier 5 to settle down 5th one off the rails and put in a long-sustained effort from the top of the straight.

The way she made ground late over the final 100m suggests that a step up to 1600m would suit, especially back to restricted grade against her won sex. Might be re-capturing some of her early Sydney ability.

Record: 21:4-2-1
