Midweek racing comes to us from Canterbury this week, we have seven races on the cards with 73 acceptors. The weather in Sydney has been brilliant for the last week and we should be on a good surface come race time. The rail is true, for a best bet I am with Hypnotist he looks to be a cut above the opposition.
QUADDIES (races 4-5-6-7)
Skinny Play: 1,2 - 1.3 - 2,5,7 - 4,5,8,10
Wide Play: 1,2,4,7 - 1,3,5 - 2,5,7,10 - 4,5,8,10
BEST BET: R2 – 1. HYPNOTIST
Next Best Bet: R1 – 1. METAMORPHIC
Best Roughie: R6 – 2. SKYLIMIT
No1 METAMORPHIC (NEXT BEST BET) resumes here and looks the winner with Bowman on board. The two starts in summer were quite good. The trials leading in were more than good enough for this. Add in that you have Bowman on board who is chasing the title and you look to have a winning combination.
No4 MIDNIGHT DELIGHT has been trialing in good order coming into a fresh run here and looks primed to run well.
No5 SEPOY ACHEEVA started fav against Dawn Wall two starts back, she may well need further than 1200m.
No2 DUCHESS PEDRILLE looks next best.
VALUE RUNNER: No5 SEPOY ACHEEVA
No1 HYPNOTIST (BEST BET) looks to be a very smart horse in the making and has won his two career starts to date. Team Snowden have placed him brilliantly in a “No Metro Win” race here and he has come from two wins at Newcastle. The step to 1550m second-up isn’t an issue here as he looks as if he will get over further and could be a derby horse in the Spring.
No2 CANALETTO has been quite good in the two career starts and gets a smart claim for Ryan down to 54kgs.
No5 NATHULA was quite good on debut and the way he ran through the line there suggested that 1550m second-up would be suitable.
SCRATCHED No6 MAD PIRTATE is bred to be a ten furlong horse and with a better ride here will be finding the line.
VALUE RUNNER: No6 MAD PIRTATE
No3 INTUERI has trialled well coming into a fresh run here, he does have the best form of the runners here. From gate 9 Jennings should press on here and give them something to chase.
No1 REACH FOR HEAVEN won well upon resumption at Newcastle running quite slick time. He just needs to hold that form to be a chance here.
No2 THE PHAROAH drops out of a good race fresh and looks much more suited here second-up.
SCRATCHED No7 ABERRATION is back off a freshen up here and resumes with a new stable, the form in Melbourne is ok enough.
VALUE RUNNER: No7 ABERRATION
No2 STAR REFLECTION was quite good last start in a better race than this. The claim for King is a smart one and she is riding brilliantly at the moment.
No1 BANUELO won in good style last start at Newcastle, Avdulla off and the claiming app on is the slight concern for mine.
SCRATCHED No4 AWOKE resumes here and she really needs to lift off her form last time in, she never really went on with it. She is Group 1 placed and if she finds her best, she is a chance.
No7 PERIZADA was caught in the wrong part of the track first up at Wagga. Out to 1200m now is much more suitable than the 1000m.
VALUE RUNNER: No7 PERIZADA
No3 QUICK DEFENCE has been better this time in showing that he wants to be a race horse and be competitive at that. Bowman on and down 3kgs gives him his chance.
No1 BALMAIN BOY loomed up yet again last start but couldn’t put them away. He is a trier and will give you everything he has.
No5 IMPERATOR AUGUSTUS was good last start in a Saturday race, he may well want the ground to stay in the soft range.
No7 BASTIA comes out of what looks to be a good race last start and now takes on the older horses here.
VALUE RUNNER: No1 BALMAIN BOY
No7 STAR CROSSED won in good fashion first-up and the form has held up since. He should be much fitter for that and hard to beat again.
No2 SKYLIMIT (BEST ROUGHIE) has changed stables since the last prep and finds Bowman now and he has a good fresh record.
No5 LEGERITY resumes off a long break here and brings quite good 3yo form to this race and has trialled well.
No10 NASSAK scratched from an earlier race in preference for this. She draws a soft gate in two and should sit off what looks to be a hot speed and have the last shot.
VALUE RUNNER: No2 SKYLIMIT
SCRATCHED No5 JONNY GE bolted in with the big weight at Gosford last start. Now up 2kgs for that effort and finds a good race here where he can go on with it.
No8 BON EQUUS has a brilliant second-up record (2/2) and was good enough first-up finding the line well. Given his stats he would be set to peak here.
No10 TIP TOP missed last start in a driving finish. He gets a really good run on the map here from barrier 2 and looks hard to beat.
No4 VANILOQUIO was a touch disappointing last start, he may have well been flat second-up. Now third-up he should run well.
VALUE RUNNER: No8 BON EQUUS
