A mini final at Etihad Stadium between two emerging sides.
In a season where every game is important and has ramifications things don’t get any bigger for these two clubs than Friday night footy.
Both sides are looking to reward their loyal supporters with a return to the finals and the winner of this game will take a huge step towards doing exactly that.
Essendon recovered from a horror loss to Brisbane a fortnight ago with a gutsy 37-point victory over archrivals Collingwood to keep their season alive.
St Kilda was the talking point though last week, dismantling Richmond by 67 points and giving their supporters hope that the club’s second premiership is on the horizon.
The St Kilda forward line ran riot last week with Tim Membrey booting five goals and evergreen veteran Nick Riewoldt kicking three. Frustrating forward Josh Bruce managed two goals and five behinds but did show positive signs.
The Bombers enter this game two wins behind St Kilda but the Essendon side has a friendlier run to the end of the season so a win here would make them more likely to make the finals than the Saints.
It is hard to tip against St Kilda after what they did against Richmond last week and St Kilda does have an excellent record against Essendon, winning three straight against them and four of their past five.
However in a season where plenty of outsiders have won we are tipping another one with the Bombers ($2.20 @ Luxbet).
Essendon has more upside than St Kilda and if they can move the ball quickly through the midfield and give their tall forwards an opportunity they will kick a match winning score.
Ball magnet Seb Ross polled 10 Brownlow votes last season and he is a chance to emulate his cousin Jobe Watson and win the award. We are particularly attracted by the $67.50 on him finishing in the Top 3 at TAB if you want to try and turn some coins into some notes.
Seb Ross has had the most disposals in the Saints past two games and again looks a good bet to gain the most.
