Canterbury (Wednesday) Betting Preview & Tips
Betting tips for every race at Canterbury. Today’s best bet is in race 1
Canterbury is the midweek racing destination this week for Sydney. We have seven races on the card with smallish fields the order of the day. The rail is out 6m and the track has been quite fair as of late, we should get to good going come Wednesday.
QUADDIES (races 4-5-6-7)
Skinny Play: 5,6 - 2,8 - 2,5 - 2,11
Wide Play: 3,5,6 - 2,5,8,9 - 2,5,7 - 2,8,11
BEST BET: R1 – 1. RUNAWAY
Next Best Bet: R3 – 7. SMARTEDGE
Best Roughie: R7 – 8. BON EQQUS
R1 – 1.25pm. Ascot Restaurant Handicap - 1550m
No1 RUNAWAY (BEST BET) looks to have this race by the scruff of the neck. It took a very nice horse in D’Argento to run him down last start and that form should hold up well. He finds a weak race here and should get on pace favours and they won’t get to him.
SCRATCHED No8 SPEEDWAY has been going quite well as of late and the step up in trip suits.
No3 GRESHAM draws a soft gate and has been running through the line well.
SCRATCHED No2 ALMIGHTY comes out of the same race as Runaway last time and has place claims.
VALUE RUNNER: No8 SPEEDWAY
R2 – 2.00pm. All Too Hard @ Vinery Handicap - 1250m
No4 FUNOON got too far back first up, on a day that was suiting leaders. She flew late to just miss, the step to 1250 is suitable and from gate (3) she should settle a touch closer.
No1 DEVOLVING comes out of some good form races in the first preparation. The trials have been good, but she may need a run.
No2 COLOSIMO was well-backed on the stable debut for Waller and was poor, may not have handled the wet track at Randwick.
No6 ZA ZI BA won well at Gosford when breaking the maiden and should run well again here.
VALUE RUNNER: No1 DEVOLVING
R3 – 2.35pm. TAB.com.au Plate - 1250m
No7 SMARTEDGE (NEXT BEST) comes out of a good race on debut and was scratched on the weekend in preference for this. He gets a perfect run from gate (3) and should be too good for this field.
No4 GOLD STANDARD was fantastic on debut behind Addictive Nature, 1250 suits and he is going to be hard to beat.
SCRATCHED No5 MEROVEE by Frankel so will create plenty of interest, but let’s be realistic, he is going to need a mile to show his best and the trials have indicated that.
No9 WILD ABOUT HER is a well-bred filly, but will need further in time.
VALUE RUNNER: No5 MEROVEE
R4 – 3.10pm. #THERACES Handicap - 1900m
No5 CHATELARD has been great in winning both races, as shown last start he is only going to get better over further ground and looks a nice horse in the making.
No6 MARMAN gets a great run on the map here and is going better than his form reads.
No3 QUICK DEFENCE is going to be suited by the step up in trip, he has been running through the line quite well.
No8 LABROOKE is going quite well and gets into this race with no weight for King who is riding brilliantly.
VALUE RUNNER: No3 QUICK DEFENCE
R5 – 3.45pm. TAB Handicap - 1100m
No8 MALAHAT is a brilliantly bred colt and brings really good form to this race. He was the one to beat at Kementari last time in. The trials have been good.
No2 EBENOS wasn’t given the best of rides first-up, with a lot of fitness improvement to come, a win won’t shock here.
No9 ECCELLERE will fly along in front and give them something to chase, she killed them last start.
No5 NASSAK comes out of a good race fresh and should improve second-up off a long break.
VALUE RUNNER: No9 ECCELLERE
R6 – 4.20pm. Bowermans Office Furniture Handicap - 1250m
No5 SUPER STAR BOB comes out of a very good race fresh, there should be a lot of fitness improvement to come, as he came into that race with no trial.
No2 JEMADAR is a big market watch fresh for the new stable. There are some shrewd owners involved and the betting will tell all.
No7 MISSILE CODA got too far back last start and got caught in a log jam turning for home. Her form is rock solid.
No3 STATIC LIFT was quite good upon resumption and should run well again.
VALUE RUNNER: No2 JEMADAR
R7 – 4.55pm. Schweppes Handicap - 1550m
No2 FORTENSKY is working well towards a win again this prep, from the gate you’d hope Tommy is aggressive as he can find a spot and if he does, it could be all over down the back.
No11 VANELL was a complete forgive last start and we will have to forget he went around. His first two runs this time in were fantastic and he looks hard to beat again.
SCRATCHED No8 BON EQUUS (BEST ROUGHIE) found the line well at Wyong last start, he looks to be fully fit now and should run well again.
No5 STREET PURSUIT wasn’t too bad last start, the blinkers get taken off and King goes back on now.
VALUE RUNNER: No5 STREET PURSUIT
