Ran on soundly from nearer to the back against eventual pattern of the day. Races will only get tougher from here.
Race and track patterns gave her no hope. Sound return, keep following.
Another sound return over shorter than ideal distance. Ran on well enough. Keep following.
Beaten a lip after being ridden upside down due to track pattern. Didn’t show usual late dash but only just missed a smart one. Keep following.
Identical to Big Duke. Keep following.
Very encouraging return given SP justified due to track pattern, distance and fitness. Keen to follow.
Should’ve won. Restrained early and peeled out far too wide. Straight past the quinella a few bounds after the line. Following with confidence.
Great ride controlling in front. Will be even better with a sit on firm ground. Keep following.
Run of the day (aside from Winx of course)! Will be following with supreme confidence and taking the $15 for the Metrop.
Quality win in what should be a brilliant form race. Had the fitness edge but still following.
Had the nation’s hearts in their mouths as she almost held on against Winx. Obviously come back extremely well. Following with confidence.
Had absolutely no chance given the race and track patterns but was still slightly disappointing. Definitely giving another chance.
If this benchmark 73 Mare would run in her right grade she’d be winning easily over the 1000m.
There was an avalanche of money for this ex-Japanese sprinter/miler prior to its scratching for the Aurie’s Star two weeks ago. Punters repeated the dose this weekend as the horse was smashed into $3.40 by jump with as much as $7 being offered when markets first went up.
Got a mile back in the run with jockey Lane opting to keep towards the inside rounding the turn. It took some good piloting to find gaps in between runners as he unleashed a powerful finishing sprint to just miss the Group 1 winner Vega Magic by 0.4L (34.75s final 600m, 0.78s quicker than anything else).
Where to Next? Possibly G1 Memsie Stakes 1400m.
This year’s edition of the up and coming stakes could produce some top-quality form lines throughout the spring. The typically well-bred Lohnro x Purple Colt Toga Picta has been ear marked as a Derby type almost from day 1 and I certainly want to jump on that back wagon after an encouraging run first up.
Restrained visibly from the gates, the colt probably did not have a winning chance given the race shape and the times the leaders were running. Especially over the 1300m. Michael Walker eased off plenty of heels in the straight to allow the colt to work home stoutly late. Looking forward to this colt progressing through his distances.
Where to Next? Could Back-up in Ming Dynasty: 1400m Rosehill 26/08 and/or the Stan Fox: 1500m Rosehill 09/09.
