Randwick for Chelmsford Stakes day and we get to see the reappearance of the wonder mare Winx, I wonder what she has in store for us here today. Outside of that we have 8 other brilliant races on the card highlight by the Furious and Concorde Stakes. The rail is out 6m and we will be on a good surface.
QUADDIES (races 6-7-8-9)
Skinny Play: 1,3 - 11 - 1,6,7 - 7,11
Wide Play: 1,2,3,5 - 11 - 1,2,3,6,7,9 - 3,7,10,11
BEST BET: R2 – 8. UP ’N’ ROLLING
Next Best Bet: R5 – 3. SPIETH
Best Roughie: R6 – 2. WHISPERED SECRET
No6 SUPER EX has been running and winning fast times at the last two starts. He is up and running where a few of these are either first or second-up. Looks the likely leader here and the 1300m start will allow him to get a few cheap sections early on and that could be curtains for the rest.
No3 BEAU GESTE resumes here and has been trialing up in good order coming into the fresh run and there is a little boom on him off his debut run. The debut win at Canterbury was strong, when he got balanced up he raced away from them. Randwick fresh suits and he will be charging late.
No8 MEROVEE dug deep and won well upon resumption when breaking the maiden. At face value I thought it wasn’t a strong win, but the times and figures were quite strong. I think he may need further in time, but this looks a nice next step.
No2 ANDAZ has been trialing well coming into the fresh run here, the two runs in Melbourne in the winter were quite strong and the form has held up quite well out of those races, he should have some residual fitness from the campaign and he looks a chance here.
VALUE RUNNER: No8 MEROVEE
No8 UP’N’ROLLING (BEST BET) should be winning this race if he is as good as I think he is. The first-up win was outstanding and he just toyed with them there and looked every bit of a group horse against that lot. He now has to step up to Saturday level, but drops 3kgs for the win where the form has stood up well. He could get to a race like the Tatts Cup if he keeps the upward spiral going.
No1 ADMIRAL JELLO has been very good in all three runs this time in without winning, he has now had that run at 2000m which should hold him in good stead here.
No4 MULTIFACETS has had the trial between runs where he was quite good, Waller has used this strategy well in recent times.
No9 ROMAN SON has won his last three and has trialled well between runs and is a horse on the way up.
VALUE RUNNER: No1 ADMIRAL JELLO
No4 JAMINZAH has been very good in winning the last two runs in good order in Melbourne. From gate 6 Bowman will need to make up his mind early if he wants to roll forward or not. The form around him is quite good and he looks hard to beat.
No3 MORE TO GAIN is second-up off a long break here. He is a winner second up in the past and was quite good in the fresh run behind Most Exalted. He has form around Antonio Guiseppe this time last year and should be respected.
No5 MURAQABA has been going well enough and comes out of an ok enough race last start and that form should hold up well here, this isn’t too strong of a race and he has to be given a chance here.
No2 EMBLEY has been well supported in the last two runs, but hasn’t lived up to the market expectations. He has found a weak race here and gets one last chance.
VALUE RUNNER: No5 MURAQABA
No8 MAKFI LASS has been in very good form this time in and comes out of a very strong highway last start behind Care To Think. She draws a good gate here for King (10) where she will be able to sit just in behind the leaders and pounce late.
No3 SUPER STAR BOB has had a trial since the last run where he disappointed as a fav. He did what he needed to do there and looked to be in nice touch. He is now third-up in as weak a race he has run in, this time in and needs to be respected.
No5 SCHEDULE has a brilliant fresh record since joining the Mack Griffith stable winning both starts. The trial at Bathurst was quite good he just bowled around and did a good job. 1400m fresh is a good kick off point for him and he will be finishing hard.
No1 LAST TRY WINS has run second at the last four runs and has been doing a really good job without winning. Again he finds another competitive race here and Glyn will go back from gate 11 and have the last shot at them.
VALUE RUNNER: No5 SCHEDULE
No3 SPIETH (NEXT BEST BET) has been trialing in good fashion coming into a resuming run here. He needs to stake his claim for the Everest so he needs to win this at least. His fresh form is brilliant and he was just touched off in a Group 1 Lightning last prep where he had no luck. Had he had some luck he may well have won multiple Group 1s by now and he looks to have come back brilliantly.
No1 REDZEL looks to sit just behind the leaders here and did a good job winning the Doomben 10,000 last time in. The trials have been good.
No5 NIETA didn’t have a lot go her way last time in, she looks to have come back brilliantly and has been set for this first-up.
SCRATCHED No6 SUPER TOO is going to do what she did last start and fly along in front and try to bust them up here. She ran track record time last start and if she gets the lead easily she will give them something to catch.
VALUE RUNNER: No6 SUPER TOO
No3 CHAMPAGNE CUDDLES was the best run of the race in the Silver Shadow, Angland pulled out rounding the turn and made Champagne Cuddles face the breeze when making her run and she knuckled down to just miss. She gets a better run of the race here and there looks to be more pressure which should suit her.
No1 FORMALITY did what she needed to do fresh to get the job done in that same race and was quite strong there. She should be improved for the run and if she can get another easy time if it in front that are going to struggle to beat her.
No2 WHISPERED SECRET (BEST ROUGHIE) has been trialing in good fashion leading into a fresh run here. The first trial she was punched out to win in good fashion, before a nice enough trial at Gosford where she was never out of first gear. She is Group 1 placed against the boys and may need further than 1200m, but I am a fan.
No5 ALIZEE I don’t know what to do with this filly, I think she is a Group 1 horse, but with the run she had the other day she should have won. Maybe she is better ridden cold and coming at them with one big run? From gate 1 on Saturday she gets that chance to be ridden cold and rush at them.
VALUE RUNNER: No2 WHISPERED SECRET
No11 WINX gave us a touch of a show last start, missing the kick and let us think that she was going to lose for a few fleeting moments. The win was outstanding running super-fast time and only enhancing her reputation. She gets the ear muffs here to help her jump cleanly, she will likely win again.
No8 SARRASIN is my Epsom horse and ran well first-up before fitness blew out late there. Now to 1600m second up which suits, I expect to see him making a long hard run to get that fitness into him here before a 2000m run next start.
No9 LIFE LESS ORDINARY smashed the line first-up and now steps to the 1600m here which suits more so. He looks to have taken that next step this time in at his second Australian preparation and should be respected.
No1 SENSE OF OCCASION has a very good fresh record and took that next step last preparation by winning the Group 1 Doomben Cup. The two trials coming in were very good and he looks a place hope here.
VALUE RUNNER: No8 SARRASIN
No1 HAPPY CLAPPER has trialled brilliantly leading into the fresh run here, he looks as if he has come back better than ever. If not for a savage bias he would have won the Doncaster last prep. He has a brilliant fresh record and may be too classy here.
No7 INVINCIBLE GEM belted them first-up in the Missile, when clearly not ready to run to her peak. She has trialled in good style since and has tactically avoided Winx as to keep her in the best mental shape possible. If she elevates again lookout.
No6 ECUADOR probably ran to a career peak fresh when getting gunned down by Winx and Foxplay, he has come back better this time in and he looks the likely leader, if he is able to get a soft enough time of it in front again, they won’t be running him down due to his 1400m record 10:4-2-3.
No9 TOM MELBOURNE should have won fresh, we all know it and saw it. He has come back a different horse by the look of it, Waller may well have figured out him out and now he wants to be a racehorse who wants to win. I want to see him again before I dive into him, but I wouldn’t be stopping anyone who wanted to back him.
VALUE RUNNER: No9 TOM MELBOURNE
No11 DAWN WALL resumes here off a QLD campaign where she had some issues and was still sensationally backed in the Oaks when running into Egg Tart, I love backing QLD campaigners fresh if they have come off a staying prep, as the usually run well fresh and this mare has trialled very well.
No7 WASHINGTON HEIGHTS should have been in the finish last start, if not won the race. Again here he draws a very sticky gate for a backmarker as he may well get stuck in that same position again. If KMac is able to extricate him from the fence at around the 600m mark he will be in the finish.
SCRATCHED No3 FAROLITOS has trialled well coming into a fresh run here, he comes off the back of two strong wins during the winter season. His form is more than good enough for this and he looks as if he has been set for this fresh.
No10 VELADERO is another horse who is back off a QLD preparation and was very good in all runs. He comes into this off the back of two trials where he looks to be in great form and should be in the finish here.
VALUE RUNNER: No11 DAWN WALL
