Another metropolitan midweek meeting at Ipswich meaning plenty of depth in the fields and some good value chances. As always the early pace of races here are the key factor but with the rail out four metres all runners should still get their chances. Like all tracks in this area the lack of rain is taking its toll with the surfaces lightning fast.
QUADDIES (races 5-6-7-8)
Skinny Play: 2,5/2 /2,7/1,2,8
Wide Play: 2,5,8,9/1,2,3,5/1,2,7,9/1,2,6,8
BEST BET: R6 – 2. GRACIDA
Next Best Bet: R2 – 4. MISS ARABELLA
Best Roughie: R7 – 2. GWAPO
No4 MISS ARABELLA (NEXT BEST BET) Has won two of past three starts in good fashion and had no luck at all in the other run. Needs pace on early which she should get here and will be running home hard. A mare on the up.
No2 SCOUTABOUT His three runs from a spell have all been good and won last start this track and distance. Might be looking for a middle distance now but still a main player.
No3 STEAL A DIAMOND Can be hard to catch but handy on her day and won well at the Sunshine Coast last start. Has to be respected.
No5 SHOTACROSS THE BOW Has never lived up to early promise and not sure rock hard tracks suit him. But on his best form would nearly win this.
VALUE RUNNER: No3 STEAL A DIAMOND
No1 DEE CEE DELIGHTS Has been racing well with placings past two starts at shorter trips. He is bred to be a stayer and has 3kgs claim for in-form apprentice. Looks hard to beat.
No11 WE'RE ALL EARS Has been placed his past four starts in races of this type. He at least stays and has an each-way chance again.
No3 MAJESTIC SHADOW Has had many chances to win here but is usually about the place. If things fell into place for him he could just about win this.
No2 GRAND WHISPER Form doesn't look strong but he has been a victim of wide barriers his past few starts. With luck can improve sharply.
VALUE RUNNER: No3 MAJESTIC SHADOW
No4 MAKING SHADOWS Probably should have won last start at the Sunshine Coast when second. This smaller track no help but hard to beat.
No1 CANUNGRA KID Racing well with placings this track and Toowoomba at his past two starts. This isn't strong and suited at 1500m.
No2 DUKE OF CHRISTOPHE Resuming at 1500m here but has had two solid trials. Placed seven of nine starts and has more ability than most of these.
No9 MAJOR LUCK Yet to live up to early promise but gradually getting fitter and this track and distance suits.
VALUE RUNNER: No1 CANUNGRA KID
No2 SNEAKY SNIPER Trialled very well at the Gold Coast an then second at only start this track behind a handy horse. Barrier no help but still hard to beat.
No8 HENRY'S AFFAIR Seems to have struck form of late and is running on in his races. Third last start at the Sunshine Coast was good and should be hard to beat here.
No5 TAY SWIFT Resuming here and has trialled solidly for comeback. Has shown some good form in other campaigns and was scratched Saturday to run in this.
No9 SPLITTER Two races start earlier this year were just fair but we did like his recent Doomben trial win and deserves respect.
VALUE RUNNER: No9 SPLITTER
No2 GRACIDA (BEST BET) Has won his past two starts at the Sunshine Coast in very fast time over 1000m. Scratched from Doomben Saturday to run here. Has also trialled well recently so must be the one to beat from the inside barrier.
No3 NATIONAL TRAIL Very fast horse who was also scratched Saturday to run here. Winner twice recently and no luck last start when unplaced in Toowoomba.
No1 POWERFUL SAGA Honest and you know he will show pace and fight on. He is just starting to get up in the weights which is a worry.
No5 TARZAN What can we say other than he is a head case. He is just as likely to win by panels or run near last as he did last time when in a foul mood at Doomben. Has trialled well since last start and on his day is very smart.
VALUE RUNNER: No1 POWERFUL SAGA
No7 BIMINI ROAD Trialled well before two race starts when good without any luck in both. Should have won when second at the Sunshine Coast last start after missing the start.
No2 GWAPO (BEST ROUGHIE) Has run some big races behind some top horses but does mix his form. Well beaten at Doomben last start but had no luck and this is far easier.
No1 GOLDEN COMMAND Has been placed two of three starts in similar races to this. The weight scale suits and has each-way claims again.
No9 DON'T STUTTER Another who hasn't had much luck lately and caught in the wrong part of the track last time when fifth at the Sunshine Coast.
VALUE RUNNER: No2 GWAPO
No2 CAN DO CAMPBELL He was very well backed and got the money when recent Sunshine Coast winner. Going from a maiden to a Class 2 but he shows promise.
No1 DOUBLE SUPERLATIVE Has been a gross disappointment since excellent first-up run when should have won a much better race at Doomben five runs back. Not bad here last time and give one more chance.
No6 LUNA FIORE Getting fitter for recent racing which includes two placings this track. Looks a main player.
No8 THE OVERDRAFT Never runs a bad race but won only once. This suits and drawn to get a good run throughout.
VALUE RUNNER: No8 THE OVERDRAFT
