Randwick for George Main day here with Winx to grace us with her presence again. Outside of her we have some good racing on offer here. Everest favoritism goes on the line, with four confirmed runners taking each other on. Weather in Sydney has been amazing, track good and rail Out 9m 1600m-W/Post; Out 7m the Remainder.
QUADDIES (races 6-7-8-9)
Skinny Play: 7 - 2 - 11 -- FIELD
Wide Play: 7 - 1,2,3,9 - 6,11 - 5,7,8,9,11
BEST BET: R4 – 7. COMIN' THROUGH
Next Best Bet: R8 – 11. LIFE LESS ORDINARY
Best Roughie: R2 – 2. MY NORDIC HERO
No2 UNDAOAF comes out of a good highway two starts back where he was behind Mossman Gorge and Lifesaver there. That is quite solid highway form, he then won well at Canberra last week. 1000m shouldn’t be an issue for him and he is well weighted after the claim.
SCRATCHED No1 AZZIE’S READY is a flying machine and will try to run them into the ground here. He gets a good jockey change off the last start and despite it not being his usual play, Collett is quite good on a leader.
No4 LARLABROOK has been good in all three starts and comes into this race fresh on the back of a trial where he looks to be low flying. Gate 11 from the 1000m start is a bit tricky and Ryan will need to be on his game.
No10 SHE KNOWS comes into this race fresh with no trial which intrigues me. The maiden win was quite good and the form has held up well since. Williams seems to be getting his horses to fire at the moment and I want to follow.
VALUE RUNNER: No2 UNADOF
SCRATCHED No2 MY NORDIC HERO (BEST ROUGHIE) gets a good soft run of it on the map here and was very good at his first Australian run and found the line very well. He gets a good claim here for Magorrian who broke through on Wednesday for a winner and his confidence would be sky high. 1600m may be too short, but I want to be on him if he jumps out of the ground.
No10 ROYAL NAVY should be fully fit after having to chase the tearaway leader last start, if you were on him, you do not want to revisit it. But to the big Randwick mile he looks to be well suited and looks set to peak here.
No4 VELADERO was well backed fresh and really didn’t finish it off there. He has never been much of a fresh horse, so that may well be the excuse. Second-up to 1600m here he looks to be much more suited and gets a good run from gate 2.
No3 EMBLEY should take up the speed here and give them something to chase. He got the job done well last start and finds a race where he can run well in again.
VALUE RUNNER: No2 MY NORDIC HERO
No7 MARSUPIAL blew out late first up and just couldn’t get past Tango Rain when it looked like he would give him windburn. He comes back to the 3yo level here and now that he has had that brutal run in good time he looks well set up.
No6 MALAHAT won well last start in the midweeks yet comes up as opening fav here? Bowman sticks which is a good pointer, but I do think he is a little skinny at the current price.
No1 SINGLE BULLET has been trialing up quite well coming into the fresh run. The first trial he had enough speed to match it with She Will Reign and beat her. From gate 2 Angland is going to get a good run just in behind the speed here and will look to pounce.
No2 VIRDINE won both starts in impressive fashion during the winter and has trialled in good order coming into this. From gate 3 he has the speed to lead this field if Avdulla wants to do so and he looks set for a fresh run.
VALUE RUNNER: No7 MARSUPIAL
No7 COMIN’ THROUGH (BEST BET) has come back in good order and got the job done in good order fresh. He was asked to carry a big weight that day and won quite well there. The form out of that has looked to have stood up quite well already. M Walker getting down to the 53kgs here is the biggest pointer. If he was to win this he would be a lightweight hope in the Epsom.
No3 TOM MELBOURNE continues to haunt punters and give the internet a hell of a lot of fun. He looked home at the 300m mark last start after the tough run but was run down by Happy Clapper. He has not had any luck whatsoever and is the main danger.
SCRATCHED No5 SPECTROSCOPE is in on Friday also but if he runs here he has a chance.
No9 NO DOUBT also in on Friday, looks well set up after two good runs this time in.
VALUE RUNNER: None, due to dual acceptors.
No2 CHAMPAGNE CUDDLES will get a race run to suit here. She hasn’t had any luck in the last two starts and should have won both starts. She had to be dragged back to last and ran home in super quick time last start. There is more pressure in this race here and she can finish over the top.
No1 TULIP has won both of those starts and there is no knock on her at all. But she looks as if she will face more pressure here which could be a big hindrance. But she has won both runs and you cannot knock winners as they find a way.
No8 I AM EXCITED has been going quite well this time in without much luck, she arguably should have been in the finish last start as she copped some interference at a crucial time. She gets out to 1400m here which is much more suitable and she should be close.
No9 PANDEMONIUM has bolted up at the past two runs and will look to run her race to the same level here as she is a fast filly who can run them along and get them all under pressure early on. If she does that she can blow them away.
VALUE RUNNER: No9 PANDEMONIUM
No7 WINX no need to best bet her at the price, but she has given us a lot of enjoyment over the last two runs. Only concern here is gate 1 and she may get buried on the fence. With an ounce of luck she wins.
No9 FOXPLAY ran to a career PB fresh when getting run down late by Winx, she has had a good break between runs and has trialled well enough since. She has a very good second-up record and looks the exacta horse here.
No1 HAPPY CLAPPER resumed with a barnstorming win fresh in the Tramway. I expect to see him running on without threatening here as it is all about peaking two weeks in the Epsom. His Randwick mile record is superb.
No3 RED EXCITEMENT will probably look to do the same as he did last start here. He is in career best form and again will give them something to catch.
VALUE RUNNER: Exacta 7 – 1/9
No2 REDZEL won brilliantly fresh and in good time with the big weight there. He has since been confirmed for the Everest and this race is a big pointer to that. 1100m is perfect for him as he can jump and run and give them no chance.
No1 CHAUTAUQUA is back and looks to have been going quite well at the trials. We haven’t seen him since his unbelievable win in the TJ Smith. His main goal is the Everest in a month’s time and he will be finishing hard late, but won’t be screwed down.
No3 TAKEDOWN may get under the guard of a few here. With all the talk about the Everest going on. He has just gone about his job quite well at the trials and looks to have come back well. I am to assume that is his aim if he was to gain a slot and he should run well.
No9 NIETA probably wasn’t suited with the small field fresh and getting a bigger field and a quite run from gate 1 looks to be much better here. She can be held up for one run at them and will just need some luck here.
VALUE RUNNER: No3 TAKEDOWN
No11 LIFE LESS ORDINARY (NEXT BEST BET) looks set to peak now third-up to the 2000m I expect him to win this and then start fav in the Metropoliatan. He has come back brilliantly this time in with slashing runs and really smashing the clock. He has improved out of sight after his first Australian prep. 2000m and beyond has been his best in the past.
No6 ANTONIO GUISEPPE has been going quite well this time in and looks set to peak on Metropolitan day.
No3 CHOCANTE was quite good chasing the hot speed when behind Winx last start. He may be a touch flat, but he is a nice horse.
No10 MEGABLAST comes across from NZ off a good win when carrying 60kgs last start, usual rule of trusting NZ stayers vs the locals.
VALUE RUNNER: No10 MEGABLAST
No5 I THOUGHT SO could well blow this field away fresh now that he has been gelded. He was throwing races away last time in and not running to his best at all. Now he should have his mind on the job and the trials were good.
SCRATCHED No7 THEANSWERMYFRIEND gets rock hard going here and looks to be fully fit after two good runs to start his preparation. The form out of both runs should hold up quite well and he will look to jump / run and run them into the ground.
No11 PUMPKIN PIE resumed quite well in a fast run race in good time. She now goes to 1200m second-up and gets the blinkers on here to keep her switched on and alert. Money came for her in a big way fresh. Her form is better than it looks and she should be in the finish here.
SCRATCHED No9 SKYLIGHT GLOW should improve second-up off a good break. She wasn’t too bad fresh and should take a lot of benefit from that fitness wise. Bowman sticks and from gate 15 she will be held up for that one big run at them.
VALUE RUNNER: No9 SKYLIGHT GLOW
