Most corporates didn’t react when HAPPY CLAPPER took out the TAB Epsom Handicap at Randwick on Saturday afternoon. Pat Webster’s stable star was a hot favourite and jumped around the $2.50 mark across the board.
Happy Clapper represented a big loss for bookies but they have kept the now Group One winner at a competitive price in Cox Plate betting.
Do a bit of shopping around and you will find between $17 and $21 with Sportsbet offering top of the mark. Of course the big question is can he turn the tables on champion mare Winx who has had his measure at each of their three encounters so far?
Is ALIZEE a genuine Thousand Guineas contender?
Judging by her popular win in today’s Flight Stakes at Randwick you would assume the answer is yes. TAB immediately cut her price from $9 into $4.60 for the feature while bet365 are offering around the same price.
The Godolphin-trained filly was heavily supported to win today’s feature and the Thousand Guineas market is likely to change again on Sunday afternoon as the favourite Catchy goes around in the Guineas Prelude at Caulfield. The David Hayes & Tom Dabernig-trained filly is a $3.75 favourite for the blue riband but that is likely to shorten across the board should she win the Prelude.
Today’s Caulfield Guineas Prelude is going to impact this market in a big way so if you fancy a runner, maybe now is the time to lock in your price.
Most eyes will be on the unbeaten ROYAL SYMPHONY who is the raging $2.50 favourite (@ bet365) to take out the Group One in a few weeks time.
He is up against a talented line-up including another unbeaten runner in Levendi ($13 @ TAB) from the Peter Gelagotis stable while Godolphin’s Kementari, which wound up fourth to Menari in the Run To The Rose three weeks ago, is currently rated an $8 chance with Ladbrokes.
It will be interesting to see what Hayes & Dabernig do with Catchy, the Thousand Guineas favourite, because they have the option of taking on the boys in this one if they so desire. Anyone willing to take the $5.50 (Ladbrokes) about her?
This race was easily the most active with corporate bookmakers over the past few days – and the moves may not have ended just yet!
SHE WILL REIGN has tumbled into favouritism after her brilliant win in the Moir Stakes on Friday night.
Remarkably, Unibet are still offering a whopping $8.50 about She Will Win to win The $10million The Everest despite other bookies shortening her price dramatically after the win. Most of the moves across the board were $7-$5, however, after Chautauqua’s unplaced effort in the Premiere Stakes at Randwick, Gary Portelli’s stable star has come in to a low of $4.50.
The grey flash, who has held favouritism for The TAB Everest all the way through betting, is $5-$6 but was doing his best work late in the Premiere and cannot be underestimated.
IN HER TIME, despite not having a slot confirmed yet, was $51-$15 with most of the corporates in taking out the Premiere with William Hill offering $14 about the mare early Sunday morning. Most bookies have readjusted their pricing and In Her Time is now even shorter.
English, runner-up to In Her Time in the Premiere, did firm up with several bookies but again Unibet are showing some resilience and are offering a top price of $16.
Clearly Innocent placed behind In Her Time and English and nearly halved its quote across the board to be hovering around the $15-$21 mark, however, Palmerbet are offering the seemingly ridiculous price of $51.
The two placegetters in The Metropolitan were the two key movers for the Caulfield Cup.
Metrop winner FOUNDRY was as much as $201 to win the Caulfield Cup but tumbled into $21 with several corporates after sweeping around the field turning for home. Betfair is offering top odds on the Robert Hickmott-trained runner at the moment.
BIG DUKE, which flashed home, is also a firmer from $51 into as low as $26 but Sportsbet still have the Darren Weir runner rated at $41.
Quite a few bookies opened up the market for the blue riband this week and have already been forced to readjust their markets.
ATARAXIA’s win in the Dulcify Quality saw it trim up from around $26 into $17 across several bookies.
Tangled, which ran home nicely behind Ataraxia with a big weight, halved its price into $26. Earlier in the week, the win of Tavistock Abbey at Flemington saw it come into favouritism at most corporates while Main Stage, which placed behind Tavistock Abbey, was $51 in initial markets but is now barely double figures.
No real movement in this market from Saturday’s races.
Today’s Underwood Stakes meeting from Caulfield could have some impact on the race with Hartnell ($21 @ bet365), Black Heart Bart ($51 Palmerbet, Centrebet, Will Hill) and Bonneval ($31 Will Hill, Centrebet) some of the major players in today’s Group One.
Winx remains favourite at $1.55 with several bookies.
FOUNDRY was the only key mover.
The Metropolitan winner was rated as high as $201 to win the race that stops the nation prior to his success at Randwick. Now, the best price available is $31 @ bet365 although Betfair are still offering a little nibble at triple figures.
Stablemate Almandin remains at the top of betting to make it back-to-back Melbourne Cups.
Keep an eye on BONNEVAL in the Underwood Stakes at Caulfield this afternoon (Sunday). She is on the fourth line of betting with most corporates and could trim up from her current price ($26 @ Sportsbet) if she performs like she did in the Feehan Stakes on September 9.
