Randwick and Caulfield put on a punting show for the ages with the inaugural TAB Everest the highlight.

The TAB Everest

Redzel proved to be the little engine that could as he became the inaugural winner of the $10million TAB Everest – the world’s richest race on turf.

The Peter and Paul Snowden-trained runner did it tough by sitting outside the leader (Houtzen) and then had to hold off the finishing burst of Vega Magic and Brave Smash in a great finish.

Chautauqua, the king of the Randwick 1200 metres, flashed home for fourth after being held up in the straight while the popular She Will Reign didn’t have the best of luck in the run and had a day to forget on the track.

Ladbrokes Caulfield Guineas

This race proved to be a real upset with $81 chance Mighty Boss scraping paint along the rails to win the Ladbrokes Caulfield Guineas.

Kementari, the Godolphin-owned runner, looked set for victory halfway down the straight until getting dive bombed by the roughie at the finish.

Catchy, the favourite, ran on for third just in front of the longtime favourite but eventual second pick in Royal Symphony.

CAULFIELD CUP – Saturday, October 21

There was plenty of movement for next week’s feature event at Caulfield thanks to some impressive performances in Sydney and Melbourne.

BIG DUKE was hovering around the $51 mark for the race but his victory in the St Leger at Randwick saw bookmakers react in unison, slicing his price across the board. Sportsbet is currently best in market at the $31.

JOHANNES VERMEER out of the Aidan O’Brien camp was the other big eye-catcher with his second in the Ladbrokes Stakes at Caulfield. His price was above $21 prior to the run and since then has been $13 into $9 at some agencies. Bet365, Will Hill and Centrebet are still at $11.

Others of note to move in the Caulfield Cup market were Lord Fandango (after winning Herbert Power), where he was as much as $301 but is now $21, while Jon Snow also trimmed up slightly.

BONNEVAL drifted slightly after being unplaced in the Ladbrokes Stakes behind Gailo Chop.

MANIKATO STAKES – Friday, October 27

It was no surprise to see plenty of movement in this market after Saturday’s racing.

REDZEL has roared into favouritism at most bookies, however, Ladbrokes still have Everest runner-up VEGA MAGIC as the $4.50 pick while the winner himself is $5.50.

SHE WILL REIGN is going for a spell according to trainer Gary Portelli so punters should take note of the news despite most bookies still having her in the market.

SUPER CASH won the Schillaci Stakes in fine style and is still $26 to win the feature sprint at Laddies.

VICTORIA DERBY – Saturday, November 4

Who didn’t see LEVENDI working home nicely in the Caufield Guineas?

The Peter Gelagotis-trained runner found the line with authority after racing in the back half of the field and gave every indication that the 2500 metres of the Derby won’t worry him.

Ladbrokes still have him at $15 but good luck to those punters that secured as much as $34 prior to that effort.

Royal Symphony also tightened up after his fast-finishing fourth in the Guineas. You can secure $8 at Ladbrokes for him to take out the blue riband.

COX PLATE – Saturday, October 28

GAILO CHOP was the main firmer for the weight-for-age championship after his all-the-way win in the Ladbrokes Stakes at Caulfield.

The Darren Weir-trained runner halved his price to win the Cox Plate with many bookies and is now $21 at the likes of bet365 and Palmerbet.

ALOISIA and TOSEN STARDOM were the others to see their prices slashed in the big one.

Aloisia’s victory in the Thousand Guineas saw her price tumble in from triple figures to $61 (Sportsbet, Centrebet) while Tosen Stardom was impressive in winning the Toorak Handicap. The best price available for him is $25 @ Betfair.

MELBOURNE CUP – Tuesday, November 7

The price for JOHANNAES VERMEER is well and truly gone!

The overseas-based stayer was flashing home in the Ladbrokes Stakes and would have won if the race was 50 metres further, however, Gailo Chop just lasted. Bookies quickly reacted to the performance of the runner-up, turning off his Cup price which hovered around the $51 mark to put him into near favouritism at bet365 and William Hill.

BIG DUKE shortened up slightly ($26 @ Palmerbet) following his win in the St Leger while Jon Snow was the other one of note to tighten in the market.

KENNEDY OAKS – Thursday, November 9

ALOISIA is the new Oaks favourite following her victory in the Thousand Guineas.

Considered a $7 chance prior to winning the feature at Caulfield, Aloisia is now into as low as $3.50 but if you shop around you can still get $3.70 @ Palmerbet.

Catchy did trim up slightly after finishing third in the Caulfield Guineas and is now into $12 (Palmerbet).

DARLEY CLASSIC – Saturday, November 11

This race has changed complexion in a big way following the TAB Everest, Sydney Stakes and Schillaci Stakes.

Everest winner REDZEL is into $7 (Palmerbet) following his victory in the world’s richest race on turf, however, Vega Magic is still the $6 favourite.

CHAUTAUQUA and REDKIRK WARRIOR are next picks in the market at $7.50 and $9.50 respectively.

IN HER TIME was as much as $15 prior to taking out the Sydney Stakes but the team at William Hill have trimmed her up to be a $9 chance. IMPENDING, which flashed home behind In Her Time, was a big firmer and almost halved his quote to $13.

SUPER CASH and INVINCIBLE STAR were both triple figures to take out the Darley but after their eye-catching performances are now into $41 and $31 respectively (Will Hill).

SHE WILL REIGN is still in the market with the corporates but beware the news we gave you above regarding the Manikato Stakes in that Gary Portelli is going to spell her.
