The Victorian spring carnival and this weekend’s double-header meeting of Friday night and Saturday’s Cox Plate have decimated fields in Adelaide.
With such a heavy workload of racing in Victoria there are few Victorians venturing across the border this Saturday and this has made a dramatic impact on the size and depth of the fields.
The False Rail will be at nine metres and the day will be cooler after a hot day on Friday with a maximum on 31C. Saturday will be mild at 19C and overcast. The track is rated as a Good 3.

No1 TUNES with the 2kg claim of in-form apprentice Raquel Clark he gets in here on a nice weight carrying 57kg. He is rock hard after his last-start second to the Willybe over 2600m here on October 14. Clark rode him that day and the 2500m here suits. Hard to beat.
No2 FLYING CASINO is a veteran stayer who drops a half-kilo to 54.5kg on the weight he carried when finishing a solid third to the Willybe over 2600m here on October 14. Jason Holder keeps the ride and he looks poised to again tussle with Tunes but this time for the outright result.
No7 DISCERN is now rock solid and expect to be in the finish here on his last start third to the talented Presumption over 2200m at Murray Bridge on October 20. Apprentice Victor Wong is riding well and his 3kg claim drops his weight to a mere 51kg here. Has a superior draw in barrier one.
No4 OUR BOY NICHOLAS gets leading Adelaide rider Clare Lindop to steer this time. He ran a solid fifth over 1950m here on October 21. He is well seasoned over the middle distances now and he carries 54kg and has drawn ideally to get a soft run in gate two. Makes appeal each-way.
VALUE RUNNER: No4 OUR BOY NICHOLAS
No4 LONG LEAF has no trial form to follow but would not be here unless Team Hayes thought he could win. The stable has been dominant in the juvenile ranks over past seasons and this is a highly bred colt owned by the worldwide conglomerate Coolmore Stud. Top jockey Andrew Mallyon rides at debut.
No5 TEQUILA TIME is going to take natural improvement from his debut when a well-beaten third over 1000m here on October 7. The son of Stratum was specked at $8.50 and he strikes a lot of unknowns here. The run under his belt is a big bonus and makes appeal.
No7 HIKAYA is a stablemate to Crockett who kicked off the new season of juveniles on a high for trainer Tony McEvoy here on October 7. This filly is a daughter of leading Kiwi stallion O’Reilly and from the top Adelaide stable. Top jockey Jamie Kah rides and ran a fair third in an 800m trial at Cranbourne recently.
No8 LA POMME DE PIN is by the boom stallion I Am Invincible so must be respected on that alone. She is also a product of in-form trainer Lloyd Kennewell. She has not trialled so hard to get any guide, but she is well bred. She wears a tongue-tie at her debut and has top jockey Joe Bowditch.
VALUE RUNNER: No8 LA POMME DE PIN
No3 CHAROSSA resumes here from a five-week break after falling heavily over 1000m in a 3yo maiden here on September 23. The blinkers come off and the winkers go on for the first time. This is a moderate maiden and that was only his second start so there is upside to this 3yo.
No2 BUCK’S ROW is making his comeback for the 2017-18 season. He did show promise as a 2yo with a second at Murray Bridge before finishing a solid fourth over 1100m in a maiden at Morphettville on May 24. He was highly fancied that time at $4.80 and with Joe Bowditch on board would respect.
No4 CRUISING showed he was on target for a forward showing first-up when he scored a comfortable win in a 1000m trial here on September 28. He has had heaps of time to find further improvement and he was well liked at his debut when running fifth at Strathalbyn back on September 6.
No8 CHAMPERS ON ICE was at long double figure odds at debut but surprised with a closing third over 1006m in a maiden at Murray Bridge on September 24. She had an awkward run that day and will be superior for the outing. She gets the bonus of ace rider Jamie Kah to boot.
VALUE RUNNER: No8 CHAMPERS ON ICE
No1 CAPTAIN DUFFY cops a penalty for his good win over 1800m here on October 14. He goes up to 62kg but with the 3kg claim of Victorian apprentice Chris Caserta will drop to 59kg. He won carrying 57kg last time. It is significant but he has been in ultra-consistent form and rates highly again.
No7 TABLE OF WISDOM has the combination of trainer Tony McEvoy and jockey Jamie Kah, which has proven a strong force this season. They have a winning ratio of 30% and will be out to kick off this gelding’s winning streak here after a third over 1600m at Murray Bridge on October 15.
No3 ROKDA KASBA is from the all conquering Team Hayes yard and must be respected. Last start he laid out when three deep before finishing sixth over 1600m at Cranbourne on October 15. Team Hayes has booked Andrew Mallyon for his Adelaide assault and he won at Gosford three starts ago.
No12 SILENT WARRIOR (BEST ROUGHIE) has been honest and deserved his breakthrough when opening his winning account at his 13th start with a sustained front running performance over 1700m in a maiden at Gawler on October 11. He gets the bonus of Jason Holder as his new rider for the rise in class.
VALUE RUNNER: No12 SILENT WARRIOR
No8 ANGELUCCI (BEST BET) has posted two flawless wins and is in line for a hat-trick here. Latest coasted to a 1.5 length win over 1500m at Gawler on October 11. Joe Bowditch keeps the ride on the gelding and he drops 2.5kg to 56.5kg here. This is only his fourth start back from a spell and drawn in gate two he should get a soft run.
No6 WASABI BOB is racing down a grade on his last start when finished in the centre of the field.
No9 BEAU RIVAGE was doing his best work on the line last time out. Must have claims.
No3 HELL ON EARTH is a Victorian raider with a talented Victorian jockey in Andrew Mallyon.
VALUE RUNNER: No9 BEAU RIVAGE
No8 SO SKILLED (NEXT BEST BET) stormed home to score a big win over 1250m here two starts ago. Latest he was forced back in running and finish steadily to run seventh over 1400m here on October 7. He carried 58.5kg that day and plummets 4.5kg down to the limit on 54kg here. He gets the highly experienced Adelaide jockey Dominic Tourneur to guide from gate five.
No5 LABUAN STAR is from the stable of top trainer Darren Weir and he has dominated here.
No7 FEDERAL COURT blasted his rivals for a clever win here last Saturday. On the back up.
No2 CHAMOIS ROAD has been a lamp-lighter and should continue to race well.
VALUE RUNNER: No5 LABUAN STAR
No1 THIS KID ROCKS scored a sound win in an 800m trial at Penola on October 15 in the lead up to making his return here. Notched an enviable record last campaign and Justin Huxtable’s 3kg claim reduces his impost to a more comfortable 57kg. Has a great record fresh and strong chance.
No14 INVISIBLE GIRL drove hard to the wire to score a narrow but strong win over 1050m here on October 14. She is back for another assault and she is again favoured with no weight on the 54kg limit and has the top rider Joe Bowditch to accompany her again. Short-course specialist.
No15 GALAXY FALLS was spelled after he floundered on a bog track finishing last of nine at Gawler on July 8. Adelaide’s hero jockey Jamie Kah rides the 4yo at his comeback. He has amassed an enviable record of four wins and a third at six starts and he goes very well fresh. Kah is riding brilliantly.
No5 BAROOD gets experienced jockey Dominic Tourneur replacing a 3kg claiming apprentice. Was backed into $4.40 before finishing second to Mile High over 1050m here on September 30. Goes up a kilo to 58kg on what he carried last time but has a top rider on board. Pay to give good respect.
VALUE RUNNER: No15 GALAXY FALLS
