Doomben (Saturday) Betting Preview & Tips

Betting tips for every race at Doomben. Today’s best bet is in race 1.

Fri, 3 Nov, 12:07 AM

The first leg of three race days at Doomben in a week. The track really is being asked to do a lot but is holding up fairly well. It is a funny track because it can dry very fast, as it did last Saturday, but after rain it is usually a front-runners paradise for the next few weeks - don't ask us why?

QUADDIES (races 6,7,8,9)

Skinny Play:  2,5,10/1,4/1,3/6,12

Wide Play:  2,5,10,13/1,2,4,7/1,3,4,7/2,6,11,12

Next Best Bet:  R3 – 1. OUTRAGED

Best Roughie: R7 – 4. EMPHASIS

R1 - 11.50am. PADUA OLD BOYS QTIS Two-Years-Old Colts and Geldings Handicap - 1050m.

No1 HOPES ETERNAL (BEST BET) Has turned in two outstanding runs to win at his only two starts. Gets a mile back but runs sectionals for final 600m only stakes horses could match. While we wouldn’t usually tip a hold-up performer here he looks too good.

No3 EF TROOP First starter who won a trial by 8½ lengths on Tuesday. Has pace and will be hard to beat if stable elects to run him here.

No2 CATASTROPHIC Another first starter who has not trialled. But reported to be handy and will take beating here.

No6 KURIL FOX Wasn't bad at only start and did look green. Would need to improve to beat the top weight but two-year-olds can do that.

R2 - 12.30pm. THOMPSON BUS SERVICES Class 3 Plate - 1200m.

No1 JETSONIC Placed three times in similar races before finishing fifth in a blanket finish this track last start. He probably should have won.

No6 MR STRACHAN Promising horse who was third on a wet track at the Sunshine Coast and will be better on firmer surface here.

No3 VALFIERNO Tough horse who won two races on end before last start nose second this track over 1050m when had no luck.

No5 IGNITE THE LIGHT Has plenty of pace but can stop just as quickly. If he gets an easy lead he will be hard to run down.

R3 - 1.10pm. LITE N' EASY Benchmark 90 Handicap - 2040m.

No1 OUTRAGED (NEXT BEST BET) Good fifth last start in open company and that followed a win at his previous start. Probably wants 2200m but has a class edge on these.

No5 CAPETOWN HUSSY Winner past two starts but up in grade this time. Looks as though the 2000m will suit.

No3 MONTEUX Placed twice in similar races and then kept up to the mark with an easy trial on Tuesday. Always an each-way hope.

No6 MY GIULIANO Has turned a couple of very good runs of late and just beaten in a similar race to this last time over 2200m. The shorter trip no worry.

R4 - 1.55pm. WEARECO Fillies and Mares Class 6 Handicap - 1350m.

No3 MANAYA Very heavily backed last start and didn't have a lot of luck when fifth this track and distance. That was on heavy going and at her best is up to top company. Give another chance.

No1 BLACKJACK BELLA Always about the place in these mares' races. Hasn't raced since July but has had an easy trial. Has won first-up before.

No7 PLUCKY GIRL Lives up to her name by never being far from the money in these type of races. Down in the weights and well drawn, gives another each-way hope.

No2 FEELIN THE LOVE NSW mare who has been struggling a bit of late in the south. Has solid form in some previous campaigns and not the worst here.

No1 PERFECT DARE Up to stakes company at his best and has won first-up. Hasn't run since June but has won a Murwillumbah trial easily to get ready for this. Needs a dry track.

No9 SIR DONALD Terrible last start in Toowoomba when odds-on and fourth on a bog track. Much better on firm tracks and has a hope with an apprentices claim this race.

No4 POWERFUL SAGA One of the most honest horses in racing and deserved his last-start Gold Coast win in Saturday grade. This a bit harder but will give his best.

No2 BIDII BABE Stakes winning mare resuming here. Has won first-up, although better second-up as a rule. A bit of rain would do her chances no harm.

R6 - 3.23pm. HILLROSS MONTEFIORE & CO Ratings Band 0 - 70 Handicap - 1640m.

No2 D'HARMONY Has had his share of problems but racing in best form for a while. Last start won a handy Sunshine Coast race which is good enough form to win this.

No10 AQUA VITE Has been racing very well at the Gold Coast with a win and four placings past five starts. This isn't much harder.

No13 ANTIGONE Never in the call last start this track over 1350m but much better at 1600m and suited by the pace probably being on early here.

No5 BEAUMARIS Probably better at the Sunshine Coast but has run some good races on this track. Freshened up for this.

R7 - 4.08pm PADUA COLLEGE OPEN Handicap - 1640m.

No2 URBAN KNIGHT Has found a new lease of life winning past two starts including the latest this track and distance. Tough type who is drawn to get the run of the race.

No4 EMPHASIS (BEST ROUGHIE) Good third this track and distance last start when just ran out of puff final 100m. Loves Doomben and a lot fitter now. Would have been the top tip except for his bad barrier.

No1 TORGERSEN Won his first race in two years at the Gold Coast last start. A month between runs but had a trial on Tuesday when wasn't asked to do much. Very good on his day.

No7 DREAM FINNISH Good win first-up at Ipswich and then ran into a lot of trouble when unplaced at Doomben this trip last week. Give another chance.

R8 - 4.53pm. MT ALVERNIA COLLEGE QTIS Three-Years-Old Handicap - 1350m.

No3 MISS EXFACTOR Good win last start when led all of the race at 1200m. Missed a run because of the wash out two weeks ago but should be hard to beat here.

No4 ADORADANCER Racing very well and one of the few horses to come from back in the field when a winner here last week. Suited by this trip and rates highly.

No1 COLOSIMO Has been racing for a good while this campaign but holding her form. Had no real chance the way the race was run last start when fourth. Chance this trip.

No7 ENTERPRISE MOSS Well-bred and ran on strongly to win a maiden at Ipswich at first run from a spell. Shows promise and a chance at big odds here.

R9 - 5.30pm. T.H. COCK PTY LTD Colts, Geldings and Entires Class 6 Handicap - 1350m.

No6 THE AMATEUR Has won his past three starts in not much easier company than this. Unbeaten this track and likes to roll along in the lead so barrier no real worry.

No11 IRON GEORGE Winner three starts back in Toowoomba and then past two starts at the Sunshine Coast and Gold Coast has had no luck. On his best would nearly win this.

No12 CHAMALU Lightly-raced but scored a good first-up win in an easier race. Highly rated by the stable and has to be a chance here.

No2 BROTHERLY SECRET Doesn't win many but usually runs a bit of a race in these type of events. Has drawn the inside barrier here which is a big help for him.
