Mornington (Monday) Betting Preview & Tips

Betting tips for every race at Mornington. Today’s best bet is in race 6.

Sun, 12 Nov, 12:02 AM

Racing returns to Mornington on a Monday after racing on a Sunday here last month.

There are four maidens to open the eight-race card and the field sizes are small with not a lot of value because of the lack of depth.

The False rail is out a further two metres to four metres and the track is rated as a Good 4 (Saturday).

However, that could change with rain forecast and suggest to watch for and track alerts.

QUADDIES (races 5,6,7,8)

Skinny Play:  5 – 1 – 5 – 2,3

Wide Play: 3,5 – 1,5 – 3,5 – 2,3,4

Next Best Bet: R7 – 5. FLASH CASH

Best Roughie: R8 – 4. AURORA MISS

R1 – 1.30pm. Evergreen Turf Plate – 1200m.

No2 MILLIE THE MISSILE showed plenty of fight when finishing second over 1200m, maiden at Pakenham on October 2. That was the 3yos first start for 24 weeks and drew wide in gate 12. Drawn three here.

No6 LADY LOFT showed plenty of promise first-up when running a solid second behind the bolter Beyond The Dream in a F&M maiden over 1000m at Ballarat on October 27. She has drawn perfectly again in gate four and is a strong chance.

No4 PAPER CHASER was given a soft trial finishing third over 1000m at Tatura on October 17 in preparation for this. She has been placed at two of her three starts and is from the top yard of Team Hayes. Good chance.

No5 COMBATIVE opened at $3.90 before easing to $7 and then backed into $5.50 when finishing sixth over 1100m maiden at Moe last June. That was her debut and she was bumped in running causing her to become unbalanced.

R2 – 2.00pm. Mornington Auto Group Plate – 1000m.

No7 MISS STREET looms with strong claims on her second start when finishing a great second to Camila Lucinder over 1003m maiden at Yarra Valley on October 28. With the 3kg claim of apprentice Thomas Stockdale carries no weight again on 53kg.

No4 ROAD RAGER is a well-bred 3yo gelding from the leading yard of Robbie Griffiths. Was given a soft trial when running seventh over 800m at Cranbourne on October 23. The son of Street Sense is well drawn in gate two. Watch betting.

No5 SO YOU DREAM will sport ear muffs at his debut. She was well schooled at the trials with three hit-outs. Latest she ran a solid seventh over 800m at Cranbourne on October 23. Stablemate to Road Rager and worth watching.

No2 BILBY showed stark improvement fresh from a spell when running a strong third over 1008m at Sapphire on November 2. Should be improved on the outing and is worth keeping an eye on in a very moderate maiden.

R4 – 3.00pm. Musk Creek Farm Plate – 1500m.

No2 CLEVER DOLLY can close strongly and ran a solid fourth over 1600m 3yo fillies' maiden at Ballarat on October 26. She is race fit now with three good runs under her belt and hails from the leading stable of Robbie Griffiths. Drawn the rail.

* SCRATCHED* No9 MISSCINO has been knocking at the door and gets her chance here on her last start third in a 1600m 3yo fillies' maiden at Ballarat on October 26. She has been placed twice at her four starts and is suited here against her own age and sex.

No11 VIVENDI the stable is on fire and expect a good effort here on her last-start fourth over 1300m maiden at Seymour on October 22. She gets hot jockey Chris Symons replacing Andrew Mallyon and from six gets a cosy run.

No5 HOLY MIND has been placed at three of her five starts. Latest she ran a strong third over 1400m against her own age and sex in a maiden at Cranbourne on October 13. She is back from a four-week break but get Michael Dee to ride.

R5 – 3.30pm. Handicap – 1500m.

No5 MYOPIC strikes only four opposition in this 1500m race. She smashed her rivals by 3.75 lengths over 1400m in a maiden at Sale on October 29. She gets an easy graduation here and has the vastly experienced Noel Callow to partner.

No3 THE QUEEN’S WALK broke her maiden in style with a clever win in a 1523m maiden at Moonee Valley on November 3. She was well liked at $5.50 that night and she has finished inside the money at three of her six starts.

*SCRATCHED* No4 SKY LAKE won her maiden two starts ago at Cranbourne. She had no luck first-up when finishing seventh over 1450m against F&M at Kilmore on October 24. She has a perfect second-up record of one start for one win and Michael Dee rides.

No2 DENBEIGH DAH has the speed out of the gates to utilize the rail draw. She did fade last start when running sixth over 1411m at Seymour on November 2. That was second-up from a 91-week spell and would expect further improvement.

R6 – 4.00pm. Highview Accounting Mornington Handicap – 1000m.

No1 OUR LUCA (BEST BET) careered away to a comfortable 3.75 length win at his debut over 1208m in a maiden at Sale on December 22. He was then upgraded to Moonee Valley where he ran fourth to classy sprinter Fuhryk over 1200m on December 31. With apprentice Thomas Stockdale’s 3kg claim he gets weight relief down to 59.5kg here against moderate opposition.

No5 MOSAQUA will race on the speed and should strip fitter second-up and with Jake Noonan to ride.

No4 ATOMIC LOKADE has been honest but is something of a perennial place-getter.

*SCRATCHED* No2 CONSPICUOUS MAID ran well first-up before finishing eighth at second start. Worth thought.

R7 – 4.30pm. Surdex Sheet & Coil Handicap – 1200m.

No5 FLASH CASH (NEXT BEST BET) showed plenty of courage to beat Boom Chicka Boom in a close finish over 1100m maiden at Bendigo on November 1. Was smashed in the betting from $3.30 into $2.90 that occasion and stays on the same weight on 57kg here. Top apprentice Ben Thompson is the new rider but he has no allowance. Looks hard to beat.

No2 NAVAGIO was not far astern of the leaders when seventh first-up and expect to be improved here.

No3 BUGARI was a brilliant winner at debut on the Sunshine Coast and solid fourth at Pakenham first-up four weeks ago.

No1 JESTER ANGEL she won well at Mornington two starts back Thomas Stockdale’s claims drops her weight to 57.5kg.

R8 – 5.00pm. Mornington Car & Tyre Services Handicap – 2025m.

No2 HIGH BOUNTY is a staying bred mare who will be improved on her first-up fifth over 1600m at Seymour on October 22. She has won over this distance and with a 2kg claim her weight will drop to a comfortable 57kg. Sound second-up record.

No5 TRENDING HARD refused to surrender and fought to the line when running a close third over 1600m at Swan Hill on October 30. That was his second run over the metric mile and is now primed for his rise in distance here.

No4 AURORA MISS (BEST ROUGHIE) may pay to forgive her last start when last of seven over 1600m at 1900m at Taralgon on November 4. It was a very congested finish and she was only 1.7 lengths away from the winner. Her five wins have been over the middle-distance.

*SCRATCHED* No3 HONORARY MISS staked her claim for this race with a brilliant win over 1600m maiden at Corowa on November 6. She is on the quick back up, but she gets the vastly experienced Noel Callow to nurse her through this race. Each-way play.

R3 – 2.30pm. The Big Screen Company Maiden – 1500m.

*SCRATCHED* No10 VALERIA MESSALINA was charging home out wide to snatch second over 1200m maiden at Seymour on October 8. Was backed from $9.50 into $5 that day and she should strip fitter here for having a first start. Great chance from four.

No6 ATONE wearing the blinkers and the crossover noseband seem to have lifted the 3yo colt with him running an inspiring third over 990m in a trial at Cranbourne on October 23. That was in sharp contrast to his prior trial and is a chance at debut.

No3 MARCHING ON Has been placed second twice at his three starts, the 4yo will be improved on his last start 11th over 1500m maiden at Sandown back in March. He was a $1.60 favourite at his prior run when finishing second over 1600m at Kilmore.

No9 TATA DA GOOSE gets to sport winkers for the first time. Latest finished a steady ninth over 1200m in F&M maiden at Ballarat on October 23. Ran a good third at her debut over 1000m at Echuca. Must respect.
