Looks to be a strong card of nine races at Morphettville today after what was a few weeks of small field sizes because of the exodus to the Melbourne Spring carnival. So there is far more value here than in recent weeks.

Suggest to follow the leading stables of Tony McEvoy and Lloyd Kennewell with strong teams being saddled up over the day.

The false rail will be shifted right out to 12 metres so watch the pattern of racing. The weather will be overcast but fine and a Good 4 is predicted for the big card.

No5 RAAHEE looks primed to make a big start to career with two trial wins. Latest he comfortably won over 1000m at Gawler on October 25. He is from South Australia’s leading stable of Tony McEvoy and the son of O’Reilly gets top jockey Jason Holder to ride here at his debut.

No3 CITY BEATS is a two-year-old colt who has shown some promise at his two trials. Latest he ran a closing fourth over 1000m at Gawler on October 25. He has drawn on the rail and trial jockey Jake Toeroek keeps the ride here.

No7 REBEL ROMANCE ran a good second to Raahee over 1000m trial at Gawler on October 25. Will sport a lugging bit at her debut here and from barrier two should get a smooth passage. Former Perth jockey Ben Paterson is his rider at her debut here.

No4 MANZALA with the 1.5kg claim of apprentice Emily Finnegan will carry 55kg at his debut. He ran on well enough to suggest here when finishing fifth over 1000m trial at Gawler on October 10. Has had plenty of time to improve in fitness.

VALUE RUNNER: No4 MANZALA

R2 – 12.41pm. Wolf Blass Wines Handicap – 2500m.

No1 TUNES gets a big drop in class on his last start 10th in the Group 3 Queen Elizabeth Stakes (2500m) at Flemington last Saturday. Was totally outgunned that day and would go on his previous form over the journey at home in Adelaide. He is very reliable on this track.

No3 INSTRUMENTALIST showed a heap of courage to post a narrow win in the Mortlake Cup (2000m) on November 4. He drops from 58kg to 56.5kg here and Victorian Martin Aitken’s 3kg claim reduces his impost to a more comfortable 53.5kg. Looms as the danger.

No4 FLYING CASINO should relish his return to his home track after being outclassed over 2800m at Flemington on November 7 during Melbourne Cup week. His previous form here over the longer distances was most stout. On 54.5kg and with Jason Holder to ride rates well.

No2 DUQUESSA gets a nice weight discount down to 57.5kg on the 59kg she was weighted on when a smart winner over 2500m here on November 7. She has won three times and been placed twice at 11 starts at Morphettville. Looms with each-way claims here.

VALUE RUNNER: No2 DUQUESSA

R3 – 1.16pm. Gary Radford Family Handicap – 1050m.

No8 GOLDEN LUSTRE has won and been placed third at three starts. Latest she ran a close third to White Kaps over 1000m here on November 4. She won her maiden over 900m at Murray Bridge at her previous start and with Emily Finnegan’s 1.5kg claim carries 54.5kg here.

No6 YOELQUI has been placed second at two starts. Latest he was winding up strongly to go down narrowly over 1050m here on November 7. Top jockey Joe Bowditch keeps the ride and has drawn fairly in gate eight. He hails from the top yard of Lloyd Kennewell.

No3 IRON LOTUS is a smart winner at three of her past four starts. She cruised to a comfortable 1.8 length win over 1100m at Pioneer Park on October 14. That was five weeks ago when she started a red hot $1.90 favourite. This is a tougher assignment up to city grade.

No4 SPIRITUAL GIRL was freshened up for three weeks following eighth over 1056m at Balaklava on October 25 where she did compound at the end. She was a good winner over 1000m at Morphettville four starts back and gets Martin Aitken’s 3kg to reduce her weight to 55kg.

VALUE RUNNER: No4 SPIRITUAL GIRL

R4 – 1.51pm. C A Haigh Memorial Trophy – 1200m.

No1 CHAMOIS ROAD was narrowly beaten as a favourite last start at this track. Is the main danger.

No3 STRATEGIC DEMAND resumed from a 16-week spell and has a solid first-up record.

No6 DR DAPPER has been freshened up for this with a six weeks break. Has place claims.

VALUE RUNNER: No6 DR DAPPER

R5 – 2.26pm. Penna Michael Chartered Accountants Handicap – 1800m.

No2 HUSSYBAY (NEXT BEST BET) has been in blistering form at this track chasing a fourth straight win today. Latest carried 55.5kg for a fighting win over 1950m here on November 4. Was the red hot $1.55 favourite that time. Gets Victorian apprentice Chris Caserta to ride here and his 3kg claim reduces his weight to a mere 54.5kg. That is a kilo less than last time.

No4 FLOW METER rises in distance and was in the centre of the pack last time here. Has claims.

No3 WASABI BOB scored a good win here last Saturday. He is on the quick back up.

No1 LITTLE AKIE finished right on the heels of Hussybay last time out. Makes appeal.

VALUE RUNNER: No1 LITTLE AKIE

R6 – 3.06pm. Legacy in South Australia and Broken Hill Handicap – 1200m.

No10 VIA BALCIANO had a flying start to his career with an effortless 2.8 length win over 1056m in a maiden at Balaklava on October 25. Then ran a top second to Quivers over 1050m here on November 7. Was beaten by centimetres that day and plummets 4.5kg down to 55.5kg here.

No3 SOMETHING MORE had solid support in betting before finished seventh over 1100m against mares here on November 7. That was a solid enough effort and her second-up record is far superior with a win and a second at three starts. She drops 2.5kg here to 57.5kg.

No4 FREEDOM ROAD was given a six week break after stringing together two very good wins. Latest fought hard to score by .6 length over 1400m at Morphettville on October 7. She goes well here and gets Shane Cahill to ride on 57kg, which is up only 2kg on her last win.

No5 STREET EMBRACE is returning from a four-week break. Last start he showed speed to finish a close third over 1250m here on October 21. He gets Victorian apprentice Chris Caserta to ride and his 3kg claim drops his weight down to 54kg. Loves this distance too.

VALUE RUNNER: No5 STREET EMBRACE

R7 – 3.41pm. ZONTE's Z Force Handicap – 1200m.

No3 EMBECEE LIL loves this distance with a record of a win and a second at three starts. She ran a narrow second as a $2.20 favourite here over 1400m on November 4. Before that she coasted to a big win over 1300m here on October 21. Has the speed to combat gate eight.

No5 TROGIR was backed into a $3.90 favourite before scoring a big 2.7 length win here over 1200m on November 7. He loves this track with a record of a win and two seconds at four starts. Apprentice Emily Finnegan’s 1.5kg claim drops his weight to a comfortable 55.5kg. He is a contender.

No10 VIVALDI’S QUEST was the widest runner and never got motoring till late when finishing a close seventh over 1000m here on November 4. That was his first start back from a spell and he has a great second-up record of two starts for a win. Top jockey Joe Bowditch rides.

No1 BAROOD was breathing down the neck of the winner when finishing a strong fourth over 1050m here on October 28. That was his first start back from a good spell. He goes up 2.5kg for that effort to 60.5kg but has ace jockey Dominic Tourneur to ride. Each-way.

VALUE RUNNER: No1 BAROOD

R8 – 4.21pm. Consolidated Plant & Quarries Handicap – 1100m.

No14 DON’T CRY WOLF made a big splash when she resumed from a long spell with a brilliant 1100m win at Gawler on October 29. That was her first start in 49 weeks and she is bound to be improved on the effort. The daughter of Street Cry has never been outside the money at her four starts.

No6 ZALMONA chased hard to run a close second to Chapel City over 1000m here on November 4. He carried 59kg that day and goes up a half-kilo to 59.5kg here. Top jockey Dominic Tourneur replaces Ryan Hurdle and has an excellent draw in gate two. Has strong claims.

No15 HE IS GOLDEN resumed from a seven-week break with a strong third over 1000m here on November 4. Simon Price again rides and he is on the same weight on 58kg. He has a great second-up record of two starts for a win and from gate seven should get a nice run.

No16 FUTURIST is from the stable of Victorian trainer Robert Smerdon and has been freshened up for this with a three-week break. Last start he ran a solid seventh over 1203m at Yarra Valley on October 28. The barrier is of concern in 18 but was a fighting winner at Bendigo two starts ago.

VALUE RUNNER: No16 FUTURIST

R9 – 5.01pm. Happy Birthday Julie G Handicap – 1600m.

No9 ANGELUCCI was searching for a hat-trick when finishing eighth to jet Express over 1600m here on October 28. He previously had won impressively over 1500m at Gawler. He hails from the top yard of Lloyd Kennewell and he drops a kilo to 55.5kg for today’s clash. Lot to like.
