Canterbury for our midweek Wednesday meeting in Sydney, we have 7 races on the card here in what is a basic off season meeting now that the carnival is behind us. Rain around Sydney all weekend, track will probably be on the soft range and rail is +3m.
QUADDIES (races 4-5-6-7)
Skinny Play: 2,3 - 2,5 - 1,3,7 - 2,3,6
Wide Play: 2,3,5 - 1,2,5,8 - 1,3,6,7 - 2,3,6,9
BEST BET: R1 – 2. GONGS
Next Best Bet: R2 – 1. SEAWAY
Best Roughie: R7 – 2. NAHEMA
No2 GONGS (BEST BET) has trialled in very good order coming into the debut run here. He oozed class in his first and only trial and what I liked is that it was here over the 900m so he will be used to his surroundings on race day. Soft track shouldn’t be an issue as his sire won a Group 1 on a heavy track as did the damsire. If he gets a good run from 7 he wins.
No6 PERFECT PITCH looks to be the bunny here, the trial was quite good and with the claim she will jump and run.
No8 ROSADIBLU went “out wide” for the trial at Wyong and looked quite good. The Snowdens would have done this to give her a day away and get used to travelling.
*SCRATCHED* No7 POLHAMPTON gets a good run on the map here from the inside gate and looked good in the only trial.
VALUE RUNNER: No6 PERFECT PITCH
No1 SEAWAY (NEXT BEST BET) gets the blinkers on for the first time here and was sensationally backed on debut and probably got too far back there. The extra 50m will suit here as he really made up a stack of ground late. Blinkers add to the confidence and he should be just winning here.
No3 FRESH START has been trialing well coming into the fresh run. He looks the leader here.
No2 BALEARIC was quite good first-up when closing off well, he should run well again here
No4 SCREAM PARK was $4 - $11 on debut and still ran quite well, the trials coming into this were good.
VALUE RUNNER: No3 FRESH START
No1 DOUKHAN will appreciate the wet track here, he out plugged them last start when winning on cup day, and should do the same again.
No3 WINE BUSH has been battling away as of late and running well without winning. 2700m shouldn’t be an issue at all.
No2 GOODWOOD ZODIAC blew out late when having to make a long run last start. If he gets a soft lead here, he could shock.
No4 ASHKANND comes out of the same on cup day as all three above him here, and will run well again.
VALUE RUNNER: No2 GOODWOOD ZODIAC
No2 REVENIRE had the track bias against first-up from a spell, he still found the line very well there and should be much improved second up here.
No3 CHAPPO resumes for Waller here and trotted in on debut at a short quote at Doomben. The trial leading in was good.
No5 STAR GALAXY could well be a very nice filly, and the debut win here was quite good. The trial leading in was solid over Chappo.
No7 POWER COMMAND gets a soft run on the map here from gate 3, and was a good maiden winner at the end of the last preparation.
VALUE RUNNER: No5 STAR GALAXY
No2 BARTHELONA drops in grade here after an impressive run last start in Saturday grade. He gets a soft run from barrier 1 and looks hard to beat.
No5 THE AVENGER looks to be the horse with the most upside here, and won two on end quite well to end his last prep and has trialled quite well.
No8 KAWAIKINI gets a super soft run of it from barrier 2 here and only has to carry the 53.5kgs and soft going isn’t an issue.
No1 ON THE SPOT was quite good on cup day with the big weight. He did all the donkey work there and has his chance here.
VALUE RUNNER: No5 THE AVENGER
No3 HELLO SCHUMANN closed off quite well first-up in track record time. The claim for McFarlane gets him really well in at the weights and the second-up record is good.
*SCRATCHED* No7 LEICA’S LASS was quite good when winning last start in a nice enough race, she should jump and run them along.
No6 ECCELLERE backs up quickly after a horrid effort last Friday night. With Hyeronimus back on he will get the best out of her.
No1 GOOD TIME CHARLIE strikes as weak a race that he has run in, in some time and backs up quickly from Friday.
VALUE RUNNER: No3 HELLO SCHUMANN
No2 NAHEMA (BEST ROUGHIE) brings different form to this and loves wet tracks, she won by 10 lengths on a wet track in NZ as a 2yo. Form out of the last start at Goulburn and the win at Seymour has held up.
No6 LADY EVELYN has been going well enough as of late, wet tracks shouldn’t be an issue and she has been going well.
No3 PERSONABLE has won the last four starts in good fashion for Baker. She gets a soft run on the map here and looks hard to beat.
No9 BAYSA drops back in distance and in grade from last week. Back to the 1550m looks to be suitable here. But not sure where she gets on the map.
VALUE RUNNER: No2 NAHEMA
