Canterbury (Friday) Betting Preview & Tips
Betting tips for every race at Canterbury. Today’s best bet is in race 7
Canterbury for our Friday night meeting. The atmosphere out there on track last time was nothing short of fantastic, if you have nothing to do, get out there. We have 8 races on the card here. There is some rain around in Sydney this week and it is more than likely we will be on a soft track with the rail out 8m.
QUADDIES (races 5-6-7-8)
Skinny Play: 5 - 1,4 - 3,5,6 - 1,2,3,6
Wide Play: 3,4,5 - 1,2,4 - 3,4,5,6 - 1,2,3,6,7
BEST BET: R1 – 1. HIGHER GROUND
Next Best Bet: R3 – 6. SUGAR BELLA
Best Roughie: R2 – 2. MONSIEUR SISU
R1 – 6.15pm. TAB Rewards Handicap - 1550m.
No1 HIGHER GROUND (BEST BET) was a dominant winner when breaking the maiden last start and looks quite well placed here. He gets the same run just behind them again here, the form around him is very good. I do think he is a colt with a lot of ability who can go further than a Friday night meeting.
No3 CAJETAN comes out of what is the best lead up last start behind Unforgotten. He looks the leader and is the one the toppie has to catch, and he will hope to catch them napping here.
No4 SAVACOOL savaged the line on debut when winning at Newcastle. The trial between the runs was solid enough, and he looks to be a horse with some ability and may be one for the future.
No2 DESTINY’S OWN comes out of that same race as Cajetan last start and found the line well enough there and should run well again.
VALUE RUNNER: No4 SAVACOOL
R2 – 6.45pm. Book Summer Hospitality Today Maiden - 1100m.
No7 PATRINA has trialled in very good order leading into the debut run and did a good job at the most recent outing when winning that trial by 3.5 lengths. The two trials last time in were also quite good and she has made that improvement and looks ready to go.
No8 SEASONS has been going about her work quite well in the lead up to the debut run. She looks to be another nice filly that Les Bridge has on his hands and TC always gives them his best. She looks to have a lot of upside.
No1 GRETZKY comes out of a super-hot race on debut behind Dracarys and Assimilate. The form out of that held up quite well over the spring. He has been gelded coming into this preparation and with no trial leading in, I am wary.
No2 MONSIEUR SISU (BEST ROUGHIE) has been trialing in good style leading into the debut run here, but strikes a very hot race. We will get a price due to unfashionable connections leading in.
VALUE RUNNER: No2 MONSIEUR SISU
R3 – 7.15pm. TAB.com.au Handicap - 1100m.
No6 SUGAR BELLA (NEXT BEST BET) resumes here for a new stable and brings to this race some good form. She did a good job last time in winning two of the three runs and beating the older horses both times. She has had a good long break and has trialed in very good order coming in and I think her class will take her a long way to winning this race.
No1 DIXIE CHICK found the line in good style last start, but that is typical for her. It's now a very long time since she put her head in front when it matters. She gets a dream run on the map, but does she want to win.
No3 DUCHESS PEDRILLE resumes here and has trialled in good fashion coming into this. She went out on a high last time in and that needs to be respected.
No5 LECIA’S LASS won a good race last start at Muswellbrook. She looks the leader here and will give them something to catch. Cav has got his team going quite well now and should be respected.
VALUE RUNNER: No3 DUCHESS PEDRILLE
R4 – 7.45pm. Win $10K Cash At Canterbury Nights Handicap - 1100m.
No5 WHYPEEO is the best horse in this race simple as that, I look past his QLD form and look at the way he has been going about his work. The trials have been nothing short of brilliant coming in and he is one on the way up here.
No4 TIME OUT OF MIND comes out of some nice races last time in, and I have always been a fan of the horse and think there is ability there. But looks to have had some preps rushed. He has a good fresh record and has trialled well coming in.
No3 EQUAL BALANCE won well in the highway last start in good order after getting a much better ride than the previous ride. Big jockey change here with Angland jumping aboard here from the apprentice. He is a horse on the way up.
No1 SAMADOUBT gets in well at the weights after the claim for JVO and has been trialing in good order coming into the fresh run even though this may be short of his best. But he does have a good enough fresh record and does go well for JVO.
VALUE RUNNER: No4 TIME OUT OF MIND
R5 – 8.15pm. TAB Handicap - 1550m.
No5 JAUNTY won in good fashion last start when having the race run to suit. She comes out of some solid enough races throughout her career, and she looks to be a horse who is on the way up and can run well here.
No3 ATLANTIC FOX resumes for Waller here and comes out of some nice enough races last prep behind Kiwia and Jaminzah. That is more than good enough for this, the two trials coming in have been quite good and I like the 1550m kick off point.
No4 BLANCO CARA got too far back when resuming in a race that wasn’t run to suit her when resuming off an Oaks campaign. Now that she is stepping up in distance to the 1550m she is going to be much more suited from the soft gate.
No9 ROSEITO was just touched off last start in a Highway, that was a brutally run race there and he did a good job to be in the finish there. Up in distance now is a touch of a query for me as he has never run past the 1500m in previous efforts.
VALUE RUNNER: No3 ATLANTIC FOX
R6 – 8.45pm. Australian Turf Club Handicap - 1250m.
No4 SERENE MISS would be my third best bet if I was able to have one, but I think she will be the shortest price fav of the night here given the way she has won her three starts. All in dominant fashion with what looked to be more to come. She blasted them away last start when clear, she gets a similar run here and should be winning again.
No2 BRATISLAVA has been trialing well leading into this and has quite a good record at the track. The weight shouldn’t worry as he is a big strapping horse who needs room to get into his work.
No1 MALAISE has been gelded coming into this preparation and brings super-hot form from his autumn preparation. The two trials coming in have been quite good. But the big weight does worry me.
No8 TIVOLI STREET finished off quite well last start and just missed in a driving go. He should improve a lot second-up and gets a soft run for Shinn on the map.
VALUE RUNNER: No1 MALAISE
R7 – 9.15pm. Schweppes Evening Star - 1100m.
No5 PICK ME UP gets a much better run on the map here than he did last start where he was run off his legs. The trial between runs was quite good and he gets a very good jockey change coming into this. He has run well at the track without winning and looks a major chance here.
No3 YOUR WAY wasn’t fit enough fresh in what was a good race and blew out late. She is going to be much improved for that run and comes back to a track that she has had very good success at in the past. JVO is riding very well at the minute and the claim has her well in.
No6 WAITANDWATCH has built up quite and impressive record in his short career and has been very well placed by Davies throughout. He resumes here off a long break where he won four from four over the summer months. The trials coming in have been quite good and I have to respect Davies bringing him here fresh.
No4 FIERY HEIGHTS comes out of some good enough races in QLD as of late and looks quite well placed in a race such as this. He just got too far back last start in a race which wasn’t run to suit at all. That is some very good form for this.
VALUE RUNNER: No3 YOUR WAY
R8 – 9.45pm. ANZ Bloodstock News Handicap - 1900m.
No3 FOLLOW SUIT gets the blinkers on here at the second Australian start and wasn’t too bad at the first Aus start over 1550m. The step up in trip here looks to be much more suitable here and the form of his from New Zealand isn’t too bad at all for a race like this.
No2 CALYPSO BAY is a winner at this track last preparation and drops in grade here and looks well set up to run a peak race this time in. He comes out of a bunched finish last start and before that was behind Stonebrook and that form has held up well coming into this.
No1 CROSLEY HOTSHOT should improve from the last start effort where he weakened quite badly late. Before that he was tracking quite well for what looked to be a peak run. He gets a soft run on the map for Collett and has his chance here.
No6 GEOMETRIST won what was a weak provincial race last start but got it done in good style. I like that he comes to this off the back off a confidence boosting win as he had been running around in some solid enough open handicaps on Saturdays in Brisbane, and the Sydney staying ranks aren’t that good.
VALUE RUNNER: No6 GEOMETRIST
