Tonight’s Moonee Valley evening fixture is an interesting meeting with three races for the fairer sex on the eight-race program.
Former leading Perth apprentice has made a cracking impact to his fledgling career in Victoria and with Team Hayes he should only get stronger.
He claimed his much needed win to allow him to transfer to Melbourne with Memory Bank at Sandown last Saturday after riding two seconds at the same track at his Victorian debut on the prior Wednesday.
The false rail will be at three metres and with rain forecast the track could be downgraded from a Good 4.

No1 AL NAIFA faces a field of fillies who are all debutantes so the form is difficult to access. This filly has progressed well in her trials with a last-start win over 800m at Cranbourne on November 27. She was narrowly beaten at her previous hit out at Cranbourne in a trial and exposed form looks compelling.
No9 YULONG MERCURY will sport a lugging bit and a tongue-tie at her debut. She is by leading sire Not A Single Doubt and she hails from the top juvenile yard of Team Hayes. She ran a close second over 800m at her sole trial at Cranbourne on November 27. Shows enough promise.
No8 SWEET DISTRACTION is a daughter of the premier two-year-old sire Snitzel and she will be improved sharply on her sole trial when running fifth over 800m at Cranbourne on November 14. She has had another four weeks of fitness drilled into her and suggest to watch the betting.
No3 DESPACITO is from a top Adelaide juvenile stable and has been well drilled at the barrier school with three gate trials. Latest showed with a smart win over 1000m at Morphettville on October 26. She was put away after that and is fresh for her debut tonight. Will sport blinkers and a lugging bit.
VALUE RUNNER: No3 DESPACITO
R2 – 7.00pm. Sweeney Estate Agents We Know West Maiden Plate –1200m.
No3 KALLESKE is a former New Zealand galloper making his Australian debut. He has been gelded since he last raced, which is a significant change. Showed plenty of tenacity to finish a close second over 1150m in a maiden on a bog track at Te Awamutu on October 8 at debut. Bound to be improved for this.
No10 LADY BATHE will have an important gear change with the blinkers going on and the winkers coming off. She ran a close third over 1106m in a maiden at Benella on November 11. That was a good performance being first up from a 25-week spell. From top stable Team Hayes and would respect here.
No9 LADY MAHALA has finished inside the money at two of her four starts this campaign. Latest she ran okay to hold on to fifth as a well-backed $2.90 favourite over 1400m maiden at Sandown on November 22. She did fade inside the last 150m but this race is 200m shorter.
No4 PERFECTIONIST was finishing at a rate of knots when landing fourth over 1200m maiden at Echuca on November 20. That was a decent effort but his backers were disappointing after he was plunged from $3.40 into a $2.70 favourite. Gets his chance to amend here.
VALUE RUNNER: No4 PERFECTIONIST
R3 – 7.30pm. Follow @TheValley Handicap – 1200m.
No1 BELLEGANO was entered for last Saturday in a stronger race but was scratched. She has show ability and with the 3kg claim of Stephanie Thornton will only carry 58.5kg and not her listed 61.5kg. She hails from an astute stable and with two trials over 990m under her belt would keep most safe tonight.
No5 LITTLE GYPSY is a daughter of top stallion Lonhro and she made an impact at her debut with a big win 1200m maiden at Wodonga on November 24. She was a red hot $1.45 but only got home by the narrowest of margins. Gets top WA apprentice Fred Kersley and his claims drops her weight to 57.5kg.
No8 TAGREEDA Won at her second and final start in a 1400m maiden at Wodonga last campaign. She was given a comfortable outing when second over 990m in a trial at Cranbourne on November 27. Jordan Grob’s 3kg claim drops her weight down to a nice 56kg but she is drawn in 11.
No2 KARDASHING showed plenty of grit at her resumption when running a strong second over 1200m at Sandown against her own age and sex on November 22. Ethan Brown’s 2kg allowance reduces her impost to a more comfortable 58kg and she is drawn well in gate two.
VALUE RUNNER: No2 KARDASHING
R4 – 8.00pm. Bertocchi Christmas Masterpiece Handicap – 1000m.
No2 OUR LUCA (BEST BET) with Stephanie Thornton’s 3kg claim the impost is reduced to a comfortable 58.5kg. Was a super winner over 1000m at Mornington first up on November 13. He then cost himself all chance when nearly falling at the gates when eighth over 1300m at Sandown on November 22. Was strongly fancied that day at $4.50 and he has a nice alley in gate seven tonight. This is not a strong field in opposition.
No13 ANSINNA was plunged heavily last start at Cranbourne when flooded home. Chance again here.
No10 STAR HILLS is a three-year-old who made the perfect debut at Donald. Hard to dispute form.
No1 REWARD WITH RETURN has strung together two wins at Swan Hill and the 3kg claim drops his impost to 59kg.
VALUE RUNNER: No1 REWARD WITH RETURN
R5 – 8.30pm. Ladbrokes 55 Second Challenge Heat 7 – 955m.
No12 CAMILA LUCINDA the addition of blinkers is a critical gear change tonight. The three-year-old was a brilliant winner over 1000m here on December 1. She does face a quick back up but she has drawn perfectly in two and with Stephanie Thornton’s 3kg claim will carry only 53.5kg.
No9 KYZAMBA has won twice from past four starts. Last start she demolished her opposition by 1.25 lengths over 1000m at Seymour on November 16. She was plunged into a $1.65 favourite and it was another length back to the third horse. Tahlia Hope’s 3kg claim drops her weight to 55kg but the gate in 15 hurts.
No15 BONNEY (BEST ROUGHIE) has been brought across from Adelaide and gets ex-WA apprentice Fred Kersley to ride and his claim drops her weight to 53kg. She pulled up with a respiratory complaint after her first-up fourth over 1000m at Morphettville on November 4. Had a month to fix and respect here.
No5 WORLD OF HOPE gets ace jockey Craig Williams to ride again which is a bonus. Was held up and had to balance again but flew the coup to run second over 955m here last Friday night. She is on the fast back up but would have done no work during this week. She has a sharp enough record at this track too.
VALUE RUNNER: No15 BONNEY
R6 – 9.00pm. 1PRINT Handicap – 1200m.
No12 STREETS OF LIBERTY faces a very open field tonight and being a Darren Weir-trained mare will have the polish. She ran a strong fourth when flashing down the outside over 1100m at Ararat on November 12. Ethan Brown’s 2kg claim reduces her weight to a comfortable 56kg. Good chance.
No10 PONTE ROMA was given a soft trial and hard to take any notice of seventh over 990m at Cranbourne on November 27. She has a strong record fresh of a win and a second at four starts. She gets top jockey Ben Melham to ride on 58kg and has a great barrier in two.
No7 FEDEROSA is being hiked from Adelaide for this race. Was freshened up since her last-start third over 1200m at Morphettville on November 18. Top Melbourne jockey Michael Walker rides on 58.5kg tonight and she has a perfect record at this track of one start for one win. Hard to knock.
No14 FOR A SONG has finished inside the money at her past three starts. Latest she ran a good third against her own sex over 1000m at Sandown on December 2. She was at $31 last Saturday and is on the fast back-up, but this is mild opposition and she carries only 54.5kg with the 2kg claim.
VALUE RUNNER: No14 FOR A SONG
R7 – 9.30pm. CRT Davey Dash Handicap – 1200m.
No10 VIA BALCIANO (NEXT BEST BET) has Joe Bowditch to ride after he flew to Perth last weekend a won the Group 1 Wiunterbottom Stakes on Viddora at Ascot for trainer Lloyd Kennewell. They pair up with this WA-owned galloper, who has impressed with two wins and a second at his three starts and look to spread their wings out to Melbourne. The four-year-old is drawn fairly in gate nine and rates highly.
No4 TOY BOY was a slashing winner at Pakenham last start and will be fresh off a seven-week let up.
No8 JUST HIFALUTIN is ideally drawn on the fence and gets top rider Luke Currie to steer.
No11 EPIC MOMENT looked solid enough at a recent trial on his return from a 19-week spell.
VALUE RUNNER: No11 EPIC MOMENT
R8 – 10.00pm. Opus Group Handicap – 1514m.
No11 LORETO was finishing with a driving burst to post an excellent debut win over 1100m in a maiden at Horsham on November 3. She was then lifted in grade and ran home well to land as close third over 1300m at Cranbourne on November 27. Fred Kersley’s 2kg claim drops her weight to 56kg.
No7 SO FAR SOKOOL has been the bridesmaid at her past two starts. She ran home well to capture second over 1400m in a Listed race at Sandown on November 18. She drops a grade in class tonight and on 58kg with leading apprentice Ben Allen’s 1.5kg she will be fancied here.
No14 GIN ATOMIC posted a flawless win over 1350m maiden at Donald on November 19. She was heavily backed into a $1.85 to record the effort. This is a big step up in grade but she gets the experienced Jordan Childs replacing a 3kg apprentice. Boasts an excellent record.
No4 MISS ADEQUATE has the 2kg claim to alleviate the impost dropping to 59.5kg. She was a good winner last start when lumping 59.5kg to a length victory over 1521m at Geelong on November 19. She strikes a handy bunch of fillies and mares tonight and is worth thinking about at longer odds.
VALUE RUNNER: No34 MISS ADEQUATE
