Another Gold Coast Wednesday meeting and it will be on the soft side after plenty of rain. The final two races were abandoned last Saturday. There is some depth to the fields which means we can look for value.
QUADDIES (races 5-6-7-8)
Skinny Play: 4,9/2,4/1,12/2,9
Wide Play: 2,4,9,13/2,4,8,9/1,4,9,12/2,3,9,11
BEST BET: R3 – 5. AMELIA JANE
Next Best Bet: R1 – 5. EXCRUCIATE
Best Roughie: R6 – 8. SKANDA
No5 EXCRUCIATE (NEXT BEST BET) If she is ever going to win a race this is it. Minor placed past four starts and unlucky in three of them. Has a good barrier and should get the run of the race.
No2 EXPLOSIVE EVIE Former Victorian now trained in Toowoomba who had good form in the south before a spell. Best form at longer distances but stable noted for first-up winners.
No1 BLACKBERRY Hasn't raced since July and no official trial for comeback. But minor placed two starts before a spell in similar races to this.
No4 ENTERPRISE MISS Two starts just fair bit just about all of her siblings have been very smart. Fair solid recently is a good guide to this.
VALUE RUNNER: No1 BLACKBERRY
No7 TUMUT RIVER Had no luck at only start when just behind the placegetters this track. Fitter now and looks well placed this weak affair.
No9 THE HUSSLER Placed this track and class two runs back and since had no luck when unplaced at Ipswich. Has been freshened up for this.
No5 PANORAMA Has had three trials for first start here and not shown a great deal in each. But well-bred and this is very weak. Stable is in form.
No1 SHINE TAK GLORY Only run in February was very ordinary. But has trialled solidly and might be a value hope here fresh.
VALUE RUNNER: No5 PANORAMA
No5 AMELIA JANE (BEST BET) Has been racing well with two wins and then two minor placings past four starts. Has been good in much better races than this and looks the one to beat.
No4 ABSOLUTLYPOSITIVLY Another promising filly who won first-up this track beating a handy field. The runner up has since won. One of the main hopes.
No1 RHYMING Showed pace but stopped in a far harder race first-up. Has plenty of ability and a 2kgs claim so must be suited here. Was scratched last Wednesday to run here.
No2 MISS KINDILAN Form might not show it but on her day she is very smart. Resuming here from last run in April without a trial. Could surprise fresh.
VALUE RUNNER: No1 RHYMING
No4 MADISON POINT Trialled well before first-up third this track when had little luck in the straight. Fitter and will be very hard to beat now.
No9 SMARTY JACK Good Deagon trial winner before solid first-up run when fourth at Ipswich in a maiden. This will suit very nicely.
No13 CONQUERING LASS Had no luck at all when fourth in a Gold Coast maiden at first start two weeks ago. Another better for race experience.
No2 FLYING MAGIC Trialled okay and then terrible only race start at Ipswich. Has since trialled okay again and we are told is a bit better than form indicates.
VALUE RUNNER: No2 FLYING MAGIC
No4 DON'T DENY US Has been entered a scratched a few times of late but showed good form last campaign and has trialled solidly twice for comeback here.
No2 NARDOO Hasn't started since July but at her best is very smart. Has had her share of problems but usually goes well on the fresh side.
No8 SKANDA (BEST ROUGHIE) Gatton winner two starts back and then fair run at the Sunshine Coast. Much better suited round smaller courses and has a liking for wet tracks.
No9 WILD AVA Tiny mare who at first start this area dead-heated for first this track. Still down in the weights and that suits her.
VALUE RUNNER: No8 SKANDA
No9 TEMUJIN'S RULE Giant horse who has won his past two starts with the latest this track and distance. This race no harder and rates highly again.
No1 GEOMETRIST No star but usually races well this type of race and will find this much easier than last start failure when last in a Doomben open handicap.
No4 CANONGATE Well beaten in these type races past two starts but can bob up every now and then to run a place or in at big odds. This isn't very hard.
No12 QABLA Will be big odds here after two ordinary runs past two starts. But has won four times this track and distance and this isn't the hardest 1800m race we have ever seen. Fitter now.
VALUE RUNNER: No12 QABLA
No11 LUCKY SHOW GIRL Loves this track with four wins and three seconds from seven starts here. Flew home last start for second this track when got a mile back. Has to be a chance at the weights this slightly harder race.
No9 FIRST CRUSH We thought he could win last Saturday at big odds but the race was washed out. Gets his chance here after unlucky first-up second at the Sunshine Coast behind an in form horse.
No3 DON'T TELL MAMA Much better than last start when 13th in a stakes race at Doomben. This is far easier and watch out for her late.
No2 QUEEN OF WANDS Has run some good races in much better company than this and not a bad run first-up when fifth in an open company race at the Sunshine Coast.
VALUE RUNNER: No3 DON'T TELL MAMA
No5 ANOTHER SLIPPER Was very well backed in a Doomben Saturday race last time but missed the jump and never in the call. At his best would win this and deserves to be a hope here at good odds.
No1 HAPPY HOOVES Led all of the way to win at the Sunshine Coast last start. Always a chance if left alone in front.
No2 PRINCE OF TIE Promising horse who has had an easy trial to get ready for first run since July here. Looks a value hope.
No4 DIAMONDS ARE Trialled very well and won first-up this track before battling on well when fourth in similar race to this last time.
VALUE RUNNER: No2 PRINCE OF TIE
