Canterbury (Friday) Betting Preview & Tips
Betting tips for every race at Canterbury. Today’s best bet is in race 3
Canterbury for our usual Friday night meeting and we have an intriguing card on our hands here with some up and coming horses and this card could be passed off as a Saturday card with no worries at all to the punters. Eight races on the card with the rail in the true position and the track good, I expect a great nights racing.
QUADDIES (races 5-6-7-8)
Skinny Play: 2,6,8 - 7 - 1,3,6 - 1,2,11
Wide Play: 2,4,6,8 - 7,8 - 1,2,3,6 - 1,2,5,11
BEST BET: R3 – 3. DINNIGAN
Next Best Bet: R6 - 7. BRAVE SONG
Best Roughie: R5 – 6. BLANCO CARA
R1 – 6.15pm. TAB.com.au Plate - 1200m.
No8 MEMBRILLO has trialled in a stylish fashion leading into the debut run, I am usually against debutants over 1200m on debut, especially 2yos, but the raced bunch are not that strong. This filly gets a good run on the map here from barrier 3, and I like the way the Godolphin team have been going about their business with their youngsters.
No10 SWEET AVA is another who has been trialing well leading into the debut run, with both trials coming at home and looking to go about her work quite well, without being put under, undue pressure. I expect her to lead from the gate here and give them something to catch.
No7 EAWASE looks just like her mother Karuta Queen and has trialled up in good order coming into the debut run. The looks are the only thing that throw back to her mother, as she isn’t a flat out going filly, but looks as if she will get 7f in time.
No2 FUN FACT gets the blinkers on for the debut run and that is a show of intent here from the stable that he will roll forward. I am not sure if he will be able to get across Sweet Ava here, but I do like how the Factor progeny have been going, and this colt looks a nice type.
VALUE RUNNER: No7 EWASE
R2 – 6.45pm. #THERACES Handicap - 1550m.
No3 KURNEL JAXON has been doing a good job at the country level giving them a good hiding and gaining a lot of confidence and now finds a good race to contest here. He has proven to be tactically versatile this time in and from gate 3 Collett has a lot of options and should be able to tuck in behind them if he likes.
No4 SEAWAY steps up in trip quite fast here, and that isn’t usually a good recipe, but I am a big fan of this colt and think he has a lot of ability, he comes from the DF (different form) here as the others that I will mention come from a weird race two weeks ago.
No2 HIGHER GROUND comes out of that race two weeks ago, and I think he is a better horse than Destiny’s Own. But didn’t get the best of rides there. He stays at the 1550m here and gets a race run much better to suit here.
No1 DESTINY’S OWN looks the likely leader yet again here, and is going to give them something to chase, if the rest of them decide to play jockeys and stuff around again. Avdulla will be off and gone with the big weight and get them chasing.
VALUE RUNNER: No2 HIGHER GROUND
R3 – 7.15pm. TAB Rewards Handicap - 1200m.
No3 DINNIGAN (BEST BET) has the best form in this race and did let us down first-up with what was a poor run, but was first-up for almost a year. She has had a trial since and went around in blistering time. Her debut run in the Wyong Magic Millions was fantastic. She gets the blinkers back on here, and unless they are thinking of the 250k Magic Millions maiden next month. She surely wins this.
No4 I’M A LEGEND gets a good jockey change here, and had good market support fresh. He should be improved for that run, and run well.
No5 OMBUDSMAN wasn’t too bad on debut in a good race, and has been gelded coming into this prep. He gets McEvoy from a good gate and has been trialing well enough.
No6 PRESS REVIEW is quite well bred and has been very well educated coming into the debut run, and should run well here.
VALUE RUNNER: No5 OMBUDSMAN
R4 – 7.45pm. Book Summer Hospitality Today Sprint - 1100m.
No8 SASSO CORBARO has been trialing up quite well coming into the first-up run here. She had no luck whatsoever in her first two starts before getting a well-deserved win before the spell, where she showed signs she'd had enough. Fresh here she looks hard to beat.
No9 PLANET’S PRINCESS has now joined the Waller yard, and brings ok enough form into a race like this. The trials have been quite good, and with the added Waller polish, she should run well at the first start for the new stable.
No4 DUCHESS PEDRILLE was quite good first-up in a race which I think will hold up quite well behind Sugar Bella. She gets in well after the claim here for Adkins and gets a good run on the map here from gate 4 and looks a good chance.
No3 FROM WITHIN is also in on Saturday and I am guessing she runs there due to the better barrier.
VALUE RUNNER: No4 DUCHESS PEDRILLE
R5 – 8.15pm. TAB Handicap - 1900m.
No2 LORD MACAU looks the likely leader here from gate 5 and wasn’t at all suited last start on the heavy track at Warwick Farm. The quick step up to 1900m here is much more suitable and the way Gai’s horses have been going, right now I cannot be against them.
No6 BLANCO CARA (BEST ROUGHIE) gets up to the 1900m here third-up from a spell in a move which looks to suit. I still don’t know how she missed a place last start, but the further distance is much more suitable and with McEvoy on she should run well.
No8 KURNEL JAXON has been doing a good job at the country level giving them a good hiding and gaining a lot of confidence and now finds a good race to contest here. He has proven to be tactically versatile this time in, 1900m shouldn’t be an issue at all given the way he has run through the line this time in.
No4 HIS KYLLACHY was good enough first-up and found the line quite well there. The step up to 1900m here is much more suitable than the 1600m, and I think he has the talent there somewhere in there to run well.
VALUE RUNNER: No6 BLANCO CARA
R6 – 8.45pm. Australian Turf Club Handicap - 1250m.
No7 BRAVE SONG (NEXT BEST BET) was scratched out of a Saturday race last week due to the wide barrier, where he looked very hard to beat. This race looks to be much suitable / easier. That the Snowden's were thinking of tackling a tougher race than this first-up shows that he is going quite well, and I did love the trial coming in, and he looks the likely winner.
No8 LA CHICA BELLA comes out of some very good races last time in and looks the likely leader here. She is a nice mare who looks to be the exacta horse.
No6 AQUATIC is a bit of an enigma and has the talent there somewhere, it is if he wants to show it or not. The trials have been good enough.
No9 DIXIE CHICK will do what she does best here, suck punters in and hit the line hard without winning, throw her in your exotics, but she hates winning.
VALUE RUNNER: No6 AQUATIC
R7 – 9.15pm. Schweppes Evening Star - 1550m.
No1 HUNTER JACK brings the best form to the race here after quite a good run first up behind Sedanzer who takes on a good race on Saturday. This is a step back on grade here for him and Martin offsets the big weight with the claim, and no shock to see him cross and lead.
No3 HIGH OPINION drops well in grade here and is second-up after a long break. He is a Saturday winner at the course in the past and should be a better horse now that he has had a full preparation with Lees who would have bought him along nicely.
No6 CARLUCA is as honest as they come and will appreciate the drop back in grade. He was just found out taking on those Saturday horses last start and this is a touch weaker. 1900m is going to suit too and he does love Canterbury.
No2 IRISH OPTIMISM gets thrown in here, due to the weakness of this race and that he is an import having his second preparation. The internationals have been known to grow a leg when they get into their second prep and can really jump out of the ground. 1550m suits fresh.
VALUE RUNNER: No2 IRISH OPTIMISM
R8 – 9.45pm. Boxing Day At Royal Randwick Sprint - 1100m.
No11 WILD HEART comes out of better races than this last preparation and has trialled up well enough coming into the preparation here. I like the way that Team Hawkes has been going as of late and I am happy to have this gelding on my side here.
No1 FLASH FIBIAN is a horse who always outruns his odds and has had the one quite trial coming into the fresh run here. Even though he is yet to win fresh, he has always taken on some really good races and should be respected.
No2 ADJECTIVE gets a soft run of it from the gate here and brings some solid form coming into this. He has quite a good record at the distance and his win last start over Florid is more than good enough for this.
No5 NICCOBELLE belted a smart field at Scone last start in quite good time, running them into the ground. He drops 3kgs for that run and again looks the likely leader for King, and if gets an easy time of it again he will be off and gone.
VALUE RUNNER: No1 FLASH FIBIAN
