Randwick (Tuesday) Betting Preview & Tips
Betting tips for every race at Randwick. Today’s best bet is in race 7
Randwick for the traditional Boxing Day meeting in Sydney, we have eight races on the card here with smaller fields on the day. This is no more than a glorified midweek meeting, but it is good to have racing back at Randwick. The rail is out 3m and the track will be good.
QUADDIES (races 5-6-7-8)
Skinny Play: 5,6 - 5,8 - 3 - 4,15
Wide Play: 4,5,6 - 3,4,5,8 - 3 - 4,8,11,15
BEST BET: R7 – 4. MONTREAL
Next Best Bet: R2 – 1. CALCULATED
Best Roughie: R3 – 1. PRINCEFAMOUS
R1 – 1.05pm. Hyland Boxing Day Sale Handicap - 1000m.
No7 LILITH has been trialing like a very nice horse coming into the debut run here, winning both trials in very good style. She looks to be a very speedy filly and the 1000m kick off point looks ideal for her. That she is coming straight to town must show that Denham thinks she is that good.
No4 BOUDICEA BELLE has improved trial to trial this time in and looks well set up for the debut run here. Coming to the home track for the first time, she looks the logical leader here and should run them along. If she has taken more improvement she will go close.
No8 VAINITY has gotten better with each trial in her first preparation and looks well set up to run well on debut here. Newnham has his team going really well at the moment and the 2yos of his have been performing well.
No2 COMMISSIONER brings the best form to this after running behind Ef Troop on debut who is the fav for the Magic Millions at the moment. He was good enough here and should improve off that. Home track and a good barrier too.
R2 – 1.45pm. #THERACES Handicap - 1200m.
No1 CALCULATED (NEXT BEST BET) can only improve from his first-up run where he looked very soft in the yard, the betting said he wasn’t ready either as he was a notable drifter, yet he charged through the line there with a run that screamed “back me next start”. He drops in weight from that and as I’ve said before, I think he is a group class colt who will be winning better races than this.
No2 INTUITION has been very good at winning both runs this time in at the provincials, he ran good time when winning at Newcastle last start and should go close here.
No6 STAR GALAXY was strong enough through the line last start, now back to “home” from an inside gate she will run well.
No3 ISLAND MISSILE has been trialing very well coming into this first-up run, he brings very good form and looks well set up here.
R3 – 2.20pm. TAB Handicap - 1000m.
No1 PRINCEFAMOUS (BEST ROUGHIE) should take a lot of improvement out of the first-up run where he ran them along and ran out of gas late. The form out of that should hold up quite well in a race of this level. Apprentice off and Shinn on adds to confidence.
No8 NONPAREIL resumes here and finds a winnable race fresh. The trials coming in have been quite good, and although she has only won twice, she has a good fresh record and loves rock hard going (9:1-2-4) which she gets here.
No6 ADJECTIVE resumes here and brings very horrible first-up form in all honesty, but I love horses who go out to the paddock as a winner like this bloke did. The trial coming in was quite good, and I am going to look past the fresh record here as he looks well set up.
No2 PETROSSIAN drops well down in grade here form the Razor Sharp where he wasn’t too bad, he is much better suited in this grade and wouldn’t shock if he won here in what is an average race.
VALUE RUNNER: No1 PRINCEFAMOUS
R4 – 2.55pm. Book Summer Hospitality Today Handicap - 2400m.
*SCRATCHED* No1 GREAT GLEN is the leader here, and was quite good last start when getting run down late by Imperial Aviator. I think that will prove to be a good form race, staying at the 2400m here is perfect for him and he looks the nominal leader who should be hard to run down.
No3 LAST WISH backs up quickly from running over the course and distance last weekend, where he was just ok there. He comes back in class now and finds Shinn on board. He is an out and out stayer who will keep on plugging and giving his all.
No4 COONAWARRA has been fantastic and tough since he got up in distance and was allowed to run along at his own terms. He was strong through the line last week and gets a weight drop here. The Jock is extremely accomplished from the UK and has ridden a stack of winners, do not be put off by him.
No2 RICHARD OF YORKE is an out and out stayer and will appreciate the step up in distance here, as he has been at his best at the 2400m. He is one of those Waller stayers that will pop up now and then, so you need to throw him in.
VALUE RUNNER: No2 RICHARD OF YORKE
R5 – 3.30pm. Schweppes Handicap - 1600m.
No6 LADDER has been going well enough this time in for the new stable, the first run was quite good where she was run down late and the trial since was quite pleasing, the step up to 1600m now looks quite suitable and she is hard to beat.
No5 BAYSA loomed up like she was going to win last start and only paddled late, maybe she didn’t like the wet going as there was a huge storm just before the race. Back to a big open track and rock hard going, she has her chance.
No4 QUEEN MISTY has been in quite good form this time in with efforts behind Noire last start coming after a good fresh run at Canterbury. She gets well weighted here after the claim for Inness and gets a soft run on the map and has her chance.
No1 PIONEERING is better than the form reads this time in and should be well suited coming back in grade and is well weighted after the claim here. She gets a soft run of it on the map and the step up to 1600m third-up suits.
VALUE RUNNER: No5 BAYSA
R6 – 4.10pm. Summer Cup - 2000m.
No8 BLACK ON GOLD finds rock hard going which is what he has been looking for and gets the step up to the 2000m here which he has been looking for. The form that he brings is the best of any horse here, due to the clashes with Interlocuter. Good jockey change here helps.
No5 DARK EYES should be much better suited here on the quick up and up to 2000m, he wasn’t suited in the Villiers last weekend and his win previously in the Goulburn Cup was very strong. He has a good record at 2000m and is a winner at the T&D in the past.
No3 TESTASHADOW has been going well enough this time in, and also backs up quickly from the Villiers last week into this. 2000m is a new world for him, but I don’t think it's going to be an issue the way that he has been going this time in.
No4 MIGHTY LUCKY ran right through the line in the Villiers last week and was one of the better runs in the race there, he looks to be back to some of his best form, and if he was to hold that he could win a race like this with no issues as he is very well credentialed.
VALUE RUNNER: No3 TESTASHADOW
R7 – 4.50pm. Spinal Care Racing4Research Sprint - 1200m.
No4 MONTREAL (BEST BET) got the job done with consummate ease first-up when he was also our best bet and flogged them without been asked to do too much. Now second-up to 1200m he is much better suited than over the 1000m fresh. He has the upside that basically all in this field do not, and if he hasn’t gone backwards from the fresh run. We're looking at a gap job.
*SCRATCHED* No1 REACH FOR HEAVEN is well weighted here fresh after the claim for JVO. The form that he brings is solid enough to run well fresh.
No6 RADCLIFFE found the line well enough fresh in what should be an ok enough race going forward. Second-up he looks well suited here.
No3 MON PERE has a solid enough record winning four of the eight starts so far, he finds a good race here fresh and looks to have trialled well.
VALUE RUNNER: No1 REACH FOR HEAVEN
R8 – 5.30pm. Tab.com.au Handicap - 1400m.
*SCRATCHED* No4 SMARTEDGE was fantastic when winning first up for Snowden at Kembla, he was ridden brilliantly by Jennings there and he will have to give him a similar sort of a ride here to get him home, but he has the upside that the others do not and I am happy to be with him here.
No15 BYE SEE have always been a fan of this mare and she was solid enough first-up in a good race at Goulburn. She should take a lot of improvement for that run and down in the weights here with a soft run from the barrier she will be in the finish.
No8 DAWN RAID has been brilliant since joining the O’Shea camp winning all three starts for the stable. He keeps on stepping up, every time he is asked. He draws horribly here. But you do get Avdulla on board which will help offset that.
No11 THE HIPSTER has been fantastic in all three starts and now comes back in grade here after a good run behind Drachenfels and Pipeline last start. The step up to 1400m here looks suitable as well as the winkers being applied for the first time.
VALUE RUNNER: No15 BYE SEE
