No track in Australia has taken a battering like the Sunshine Coast so why there is yet another meeting there on Boxing Day is anyone's guess. It is a wonderful track but even it is showing signs of a hard year. The usual pattern is all horses have their chances when the rail is in the position for today's meeting.
QUADDIES (races 6-7-8-9)
Skinny Play: 1,4,5/ 1.8/1,3/7,9
Wide Play: 1,4,5,7/1,7,8,10/1,3,5,8/1,7,9, 10
BEST BET: R3 – 2. MISHANI BULLITT
Next Best Bet: R1 – 1. INVINCIBOY
Best Roughie: R6 – 5. TYCOON TYKE
No1 INVINCIBOY (NEXT BEST BET) It may seem strange making a horse who has had 18 starts and is still a maiden a special. But this does look an ideal race under the Plate conditions. Good minor placings his past two starts in harder maidens at the Gold Coast and looks very hard to beat here.
No5 BLONDE BY CHOICE Strong second this track and at last start is getting very close to a win.
No7 CALISTO Last three runs have been at this track and all very good. Has been placed this track and distance in a strong maiden.
*SCRATCHED* No11 OAKS AVENUE Has run third in this class at past three starts and always an each-way chance. Has a tricky barrier.
VALUE RUNNER: No7 CALISTO
*SCRATCHED* No4 ESSAKA Has run second this track at past two starts and has the top jockey from barrier one here. That says it all.
*SCRATCHED* No1 SHELTER LADY Has won three times and been second seven times this track. Much better than last-start first-up failure.
*SCRATCHED* No2 OUR JAMACIA Ran a very good second two runs back at Doomben behind a smart horse and then failed last start at Doomben in a far harder race. Go well here.
No5 STORM GIRL Resuming here and trialled fairly recently. Usually about the place when fresh.
VALUE RUNNER: No1 SHELTER LADY
No2 MISHANI BULLITT (BEST BET) Forget last-start defeat against older horses when got pushed back through the field on a day when leaders were winning. Has a 3kgs claim here and on best two and three-year-old form will beat these.
No3 SAINT PATRICKS DAY Stakes winner as a two-year-old and three-year-old runs have been okay. Trialled very well at Deagon last Tuesday and should be running home hard here.
No4 WAS AGONA Good Doomben maiden winner two runs back and then no luck when well beaten at next start. This suits better.
*SCRATCHED* No8 SUN DECK Showed good form last campaign and trialled solidly at Deagon last Tuesday. Not the worst here by a long way.
VALUE RUNNER: No8 SUN DECK
*SCRATCHED* No14 WINTER PASSAGE This race is a nightmare because none of the original field has had a start and half of them haven't trialled publically. However, this one is reported to be pretty smart and we will just have to respect the grapevine.
No13 SOGNI Well-bred first starter who has been just fair in two Toowoomba trials. But reportedly is another with some talent.
No9 SHUNTER First starter who showed ability when second in a Doomben trial. Has barrier one which is a big advantage.
*SCRATCHED* No7 SAUTE First starter who has trialled twice and been okay both times. Looks to have some ability.
VALUE RUNNER: No9 SHUNTER
No3 CYCLONE PATH Looks have plenty in his favour here from a good barrier. Has been minor placed both starts and was second when had no luck last time at Ipswich.
No9 SIR BARNABUS Came from a mile back when third at Ipswich last time. Far better suited on this bigger track.
*SCRATCHED* No7 OH WHY Having first start here but we liked his trial when second at Deagon last week. Could be the one in a handy field here.
No1 APPRECIATED Form was poor before handy trial and then third at Ipswich last start. Might improve further here.
VALUE RUNNER: No9 SIR BARNABUS
No7 SCALLOPINI Has had some injury problems but very impressive in winning an Ipswich maiden at first run from a long spell. Looks well placed this bigger track.
No5 TYCOON TYKE (BEST ROUGHIE) Will be good odds this race despite being second past two races this track when had no luck either time.
No1 ACADEMY HILL Has had a lot of chances to win this area but usually about the place. Good second at Ballina last start gives him a great chance here.
No4 MR BELLAGIO Promising galloper who is resuming here. Trialled nicely at Doomben recently and should be ready to race well.
VALUE RUNNER: No5 TYCOON TYKE
*SCRATCHED* No8 ARAZONA Ran home well to be second in a similar race here last start. Should be very hard to beat at the weights.
No7 LUCKY CAPTAIN Ordinary this track in a three-year-old but previous start strong effort in a much better race at Doomben. Go on that run.
No1 HIGH WIND Bred to be a champion but doesn't win too many. Placed two of past three starts and has to be a chance this track and distance.
No10 BIDZIIL Another who doesn't win very often but has good form this track and distance and any rain would help.
VALUE RUNNER: No7 LUCKY CAPTAIN
No8 RAINBOW LACE Has not run a bad race this campaign in six starts with five minor placings. Likes to lead and should do that here. Strong hope.
No3 ANOTHER SLIPPER Has been a disappointment this campaign but better run when fourth at the Gold Coast last start. This big track should suit.
No1 NATURAL BLACK Had no luck when fifth first-up in a harder race at Doomben and has won second-up.
No5 HERRSCHAFT Plugging away in Toowoomba of late and has won this track. This race not strong and appeals as a value chance.
VALUE RUNNER: No5 HERRSCHAFT
No7 CHAMALU Has been unlucky last few starts including a second this type of race at Doomben last time. Ready to win again now.
No9 KUBIS Two runs from a spell have been solid and always races best with a few runs under his belt. Each-way here.
No1 FAST ARROW Good second here last start at 1800m and goes well this track and distance. Has a claim which helps here.
No10 RISING LUCK Honest and hasn't finished worse than fourth at past five starts. Always an each-way hope.
VALUE RUNNER: No10 RISING LUCK
