This is the last Doomben Saturday meeting for a month but there are some midweeks. Doomben has stood up very well considering the work load it has already had this season. Just be careful because the track has had a lot of rain but dries very quickly. But as we keep saying the race pattern is pretty well set with on a dry to soft track with those on the pace suited early and backmarkers coming into their own late.
QUADDIES (races 6-7-8-9)
Skinny Play: 1,5,6,11/1,4,5,7/2,3,5,6/2,3,8,9
Wide Play: 1,6/4,5/5/2,3,8,9
BEST BET: R8 - 5. CANTBUYBETTER
Next Best Bet: R5 – 3. EMPHASIS
Best Roughie: R6 – 7. PRIVLAKA
No2 COLINELLE Promising galloper who had had no luck last couple in similar races to this. Just needs some early cover to nearly win this.
No3 PRIORITISE Has been beaten at a short price at two runs from a spell. Latest when third this track in a midweek race. Big wraps on him but unless he does something here we will be sacking him.
No9 JUST ORM Placed this track two runs back and then got into trouble last time when midfield this track. Back to 1100m suits here.
No16 DARKTOWN STRUTTER Very fast galloper who has won her past two starts at the provincial tracks. Needs a firm track.
VALUE RUNNER: No9 JUST ORM
No2 REALLY REILLY Has been a model of consistency and has won two and been second three times at past five starts. Good Ipswich winner last start following an unlucky second this track previous run. Hard to beat.
No1 SAIPAN Has won two of past three runs including a strong effort at Dalby last time. Has plenty of weight but the best horse in this race.
No3 VICTORY EIGHT Hard to fathom why he went so badly last start. Previous form in this type of race was most consistent and a wet track no worry.
No8 DAPPER ONE One of the unluckiest horses in Queensland but always about the place. Last two starts were strong efforts for seconds. Each-way here.
VALUE RUNNER: No8 DAPPER ONE
No2 LEGISLATION Very good winner at Randwick at his only start. Has since won a trial at Gosford and looks very hard to toss here.
No1 HOPES ETERNAL Probably the forgotten two-year-old of Queensland. Won his first two starts in brilliant fashion and the run off his legs at his next start in November. Respect here.
No5 ORCEIN Has been minor placed at both starts in Sydney. Hit the line strongly in both and looks well placed here.
No8 SIZZLING ACE Very good effort at first start when fourth in stakes race this track. Has a bad barrier again but shows a lot of promise.
VALUE RUNNER: No5 ORCEIN
No8 HAVASAY Flashed home for third this track at first run back from a spell. It was an eye catching effort and a repeat will see him in the finish here.
No9 KHALAMA Quality mare who stormed home to win first-up and then no luck in the straight when midfield here last time. On her day would finish over the top of these but her day needs luck in the straight.
No1 BADAJOZ Handy Stakes performer for Godolphin in southern races and having first run here since the Melbourne spring. Not asked to do much in a recent Warwick Farm trial.
No5 STELLA OMBRA Much better than first up last this track two weeks ago. The surface was far too hard for him that day and much better placed here where the track is sure to be softer after recent rain.
VALUE RUNNER: No9 KHALAMA
No3 EMPHASIS (NEXT BEST BET) Loves Doomben and only bad run this track was on a bog. Strong winner here last start at 2020m and no reason he can't step up to 2200m and win here.
No9 NIGHT'S WATCH Lightly raced Victorian galloper who handles wet and dry tracks. Has now won past 1800m but gives every indication he is a stayer of the future.
No1 RUDY Brave veteran who has a big weight again here. But strong second this track last start and loves Doomben. Has won a Tatts Cup at this track and distance and just needs a soft run here to be a real chance.
No6 KAISER FRANZ He is a stakes winner so gets in well at the weights here. Recent form has been on rock hard tracks and the give in the track will see him run a much better race.
VALUE RUNNER: No1 RUDY
No1 MOST IMPORTANT Won this race last year and good return to form when won the Lough Neagh Stakes last start. Gets in very well under the special conditions of this race.
No7 PRIVLAKA (BEST ROUGHIE) No luck at all when held up for a run in the straight when third in the Lough Neagh Stakes last start. Loves this track and any rain a bonus. Looks the value runner.
No5 TORGERSEN Has been racing much like his old self since coming north to Brisbane. Ran on very well in the Lough Neagh when second. Gets his chance to win again here.
No6 WEINHOLT Has raced well in Brisbane stakes races in previous campaigns and handy effort when fourth in an unsuitable race first-up at the Sunshine Coast.
VALUE RUNNER: No7 PRIVLAKA
No7 CURDLED Won a stakes race this track as a two year old and two recent runs in Sydney have been good. Won a recent Hawkesbury trial and this distance looks ideal and so does a rain affected track.
No1 CAPITAL GAIN Group One winner as a two year old and got into the wrong past of the track first-up when midfield this course. This distance suits better and won a trial in strong fashion last week. Hard to beat.
No4 WHYPEEO Back to his best form when jumped cleanly and led all of the way to win this track at 1200m. This trip should not worry and has advantage of being a front runner.
No5 PIERATA Had no luck at the start when second this track last time. Good winner here previously and is a very promising horse. The barrier is a worry for his racing style as he could get caught deep.
VALUE RUNNER: No4 WHYPEEO
No5 CANTBUYBETTER (BEST BET) Got a rail run to win the Brisbane Hcp here two weeks ago at this trip. There will be a stack of pace in this race and it will suit him from a good barrier.
No3 CABEZA DE VACA Opened a huge lead in the Villiers only to get run down on the line. Horses who use tearaway tactics from the 1600m at Doomben can often steal the race. Looks a top chance here.
No2 HOPFGARTEN Wide barrier and big weight ruined his chances when ninth in the Randwick Villiers last start. Honest old galloper who has again drawn a terrible barrier. A wet track would help.
No6 SHEISWHATSHEIS Fitter for two runs from a spell and should be able to sit on the pace here with a tearaway leader predicted. Always a hope these races.
VALUE RUNNER: No6 SHEISWHATSHEIS
No2 ZESTFUL Scored a strong win in Sydney last start and has raced well in Brisbane on occasions. Looks the one to beat from the handy barrier.
No8 ALL OVER BOSANOVA Had no luck getting a run in the straight when second first up here at 1100m. Rider said she was looking for 1200m and gets it here.
No3 CANDIKA Quality who hasn't raced since Kay. But she loves Doomben and was an impressive trial winner recently. Also worked strongly between races at Doomben last week.
No9 PEPPERANO Has raced well in top company and much better drawn here than last start when first-up second behind a future top horse. Always an each-way hope this track and distance.
VALUE RUNNER: No9 PEPPERANO
