Randwick (Monday) Betting Preview & Tips
Betting tips for every race at Randwick. Today’s best bet is in race 8
Randwick for our New Year’s Day card, on the quick backup after the meeting on Saturday. Well let’s hope the New Year can start off with a bang on the punt and set us up for a good 2018. Hope we can get off to a flyer and hold that form. Track good, rail out 9m.

Best Roughie: R3 – 10. PRESS REVIEW
R1 – 1.00pm. Happy New Year Handicap - 1800m.
No6 SAVACOOL comes out of some good races this time in and has been looking as if he has wanted to get over ground. The wide open spaces of Randwick are quite suitable for him. He can sit just behind the speed here and if Shinn gets him in clear air from the top of the straight, he will be hard to hold out.
No1 BULL MARKET has been entered for a lot of races since the last-start win and hasn’t run in any of them, not sure if there is an issue or not as nothing has been relayed through the media, the win last start was strong. But a month off and up to 1400 are queries.
No2 KURNEL JAXON comes out of the same race as Savacool last start at Canterbury behind Seaway and I do think it is a good form line. From the gate Collett will roll forward here and control the tempo. If he gets a soft time of it, he will be hard to hold out.
No5 GREENSPAN got the job done in good order last start at Newcastle when running right through the line. The step up to the 1800m here won’t be an issue at all, and that Scream Park form is solid enough for this.
VALUE RUNNER: No5 GREENSPAN
R2 – 1.35pm. TAB Handicap - 1600m
No4 BASTIA (NEXT BEST BET) brings the best form to this race and has been fantastic in both races this time in. He just missed last start in a driving go, but may well have been looking for further there after running over the 1500m fresh. Now to 1600m on a big track is much more suitable and he will be able to wind up with plenty of room at Randwick. From gate 7 he just sits behind the speed and should prove too good.
No1 NOTHING BOX should be much improved second up from a spell and getting up in distance here. The second-up record is solid enough.
No3 HIGH MIST has been going ok enough as of late. The trip away to Queensland may well have sparked him up, but he hasn’t won in a while.
*SCRATCHED* No2 HUNTER JACK gets good weight relief for Magorrian here and gets a super cosy run of it on the map just behind the leader here. He has been going well this time in with the two placings from as many starts. The weight drop is a big benefit and he has his chance.
VALUE RUNNER: No3 HIGH MIST
R3 – 2.10pm. Book Summer Hospitality Today Plate - 1400m.
No10 PRESS REVIEW (BEST ROUGHIE) found the line well enough on debut in an effort that showed she was looking for further. She is aided by the jockey change with Glyn getting aboard here. She should be able to roll forward from the gate and if she can get in, which she looks to on the map she is hard to beat.
No9 WESTROCK has been trialing up i*SCRATCHED* n good order coming into the debut run here. The two trials this time in have been particularly good and he looks as if he is ready to run a race on debut. Being from the Gai yard he will roll forward.
No5 MASCOT has been good in two runs this time in and the step up to the 1400m here looks as if it is one that will suit. I like the visors going on here, as he will be able to see the horses around him when he is making his run. From 14 Jennings will need to have a few plans.
No1 BALEARIC gets a good run on the map here behind the speed and comes through some solid enough form races as of late. He is getting to the point where he needs to show if he wants to put in, or not or he wont be in the Waller stable for much longer.
VALUE RUNNER: No10 PRESS REVIEW
R4 – 2.45pm. Tattersalls Club Handicap - 1200m.
No3 TIME OUT OF MIND was solid enough first up at Scone when charging through the line with the big weight. He should only improve off that effort and comes out of some solid enough races last time in. The worry for me is that his second-up record is quite poor. But I like how he ran through the line fresh and will give him that chance.
No6 PIRAPALA won in good style last start at the Valley on a Friday night, not at all sure about the form. But the previous run behind Debonairly is solid enough form. Collett looks to get a good run on the map here from barrier 3, and with even luck turning for home she will be in the finish.
*SCRATCHED* No12 ARRONDISSEMENT wasn’t given a good ride at all last start at Goulburn and probably should have won the race. The form out of that should hold up well enough as it was a fast run race, she now gets a good claim for King and should be in the finish.
*SCRATCHED* No11 TIGER BY THE TALE was a good highway winner two starts back before taking on a harder race against Flow and Redouble. This is a drop back in grade and the drop back in distance to the 1200m shouldn’t be an issue here.
R5 – 3.20pm. Youth Insearch Inspire Mile - 1600m.
No10 BOLLY should improve now that she has had three runs this time in and getting up to the mile which is much more suitable here. She gets a good claim at the weights down to 54kgs as well as having the soft run on the map from gate 2.
No9 REGINE will be suited on her home track out to the 1600m here. She has been going quite well this time in, with three good runs from as many starts. She gets the blinkers on for the first time and gets Shinn on board here which is a massive asset here.
No8 MADDISON AVENUE has been underrated by the market in all of her runs and has put together, quite the record. She gets a really good run on the map here from gate 3, and as we have seen when Winona gets a chance on a good horse. She rides them well.
No6 LETTER TO JULIETTE has been going well enough without winning in the short career. She ran right through the line last start and was quite good there. Second-up from a spell she should be improving and from gate 4 Angland gets a good run of it.
VALUE RUNNER: No8 MADDISON AVENUE
R6 – 4.00pm. Tattersalls Club Cup - 2400m.
No2 BROADSIDE should appreciate the fact that he has had the run over 2400m now as he was run down late by a rock hard fit horse last time. Again he rolls along in front and if Hippo gets rolling along early enough he will break their hearts.
No3 VASSAL won that race last start, but his form as of late has been good run, bad run, good run, bad run, good run. Which if he follows that pattern he is due for a bad run. Am I going insane? Maybe! He meets Broadside worse at the weights here.
No4 PRINCE CHERI closed off well enough last start and was a good third behind the other two horses there. I see him doing the exact same run again.
No6 PARAGON backs up quickly here after a solid win last week at Warwick Farm. I like stayers who have won on the back up, as they usually run well again. He should do so again.
VALUE RUNNER: No2 BROADSIDE
R7 – 4.40pm. TAB.com.au Handicap - 1000m.
No2 PEDWAY was a big winner first-up running fast time, when he was taken on in front and he kicked away for what was a dominant performance. He can only improve off that and staying at the 1000m here is suitable and she looks very hard to beat here.
No9 FROM WITHIN was placed in a poor race first-up, where she was drawn to get such a run there. On the map, what happened was always going to happen. She had trialled well coming in. But wasn’t at all placed well. If she improves / still has it in her, she will be hard to beat.
No8 FLORID was solid enough closing off behind Sasso Corbaro last start, I think that will be a solid form race to follow in the future. From gate 1 Angland will be able to sit behind the speed and pounce late.
No12 TIP TOP comes out of some solid enough races last time in, the form has stacked up well. No trial coming in has me intrigued. Watch the betting.
VALUE RUNNER: No12 TIP TOP
R8 – 5.20pm. Australian Turf Club Handicap - 1400m.
No3 SMARTEDGE (BEST BET) was fantastic when winning first-up at Kembla running very fast time for his last 600m there. He can only improve after that effort and I don’t mind the gate here, as he will be able to find his feet from gate 11 and Shinn will get him out wide into the best going, and no shock to see him run straight past them for a big win here.
No9 ECHO JET didn’t handle the wet going last start and gets back on to hard going here. At Sandown the start prior he ran solid time for the day and the step now to 1400m and back to Sydney looks ideal.
No8 MAGICAZ comes out of some solid enough races this time in and now finds a winnable race here, she will get a quiet run behind them here and charge late.
No6 TINKER DAN did a very good job when winning at the last two. He drops in weight here but has a very wide gate to deal with. Collett will take his medicine and go back here, and try to pinch runs.
VALUE RUNNER: No8 MAGICAZ
