Canterbury for Friday night racing here in Sydney, the crowds have been coming in recent weeks and it is a brilliant night out, we have eight races on the card and there is some rain around in Sydney at the moment, so we may be on soft going. The rail is out 6m.
QUADDIES (races 5-6-7-8)
Skinny Play: 8 - 1,2 - 2,3,6 - 1,4
Wide Play: 1,8 - 1,2,3,5 - 1,2,3,6 - 1,3,4,6
BEST BET: R5 – 8. NINES ENOUGH
Next Best Bet: R2 – 1. AL MAH HAHA
Best Roughie: R4 – 3. BALMAIN BOY
No5 NIPOTINA was a good winner on debut at Gosford when very well backed to get the job done. She has had a trial since the debut win and did a good enough job there in pretty slick time. From the gate she can take up the running here, like she did on debut and give them something to catch.
No3 WHOOSHKA has been good in both runs this time in and capped it off with a well-deserved win for connections. She looks to be a progressive type in the making and is still on the way up here. Shinn gets a good run just behind them in what will be a tactical affair.
No4 BRUNCH won in good style last start. This is a tricky race with three last-start winners of the four horses running. The win was good enough, but not sure what she beat. She led there and may well want to take on Nipotina from the outside gate here.
No2 NICCI’S GOLD gets the blinkers off here and was quite poor in all honestly last start. Of the four that are running, this will be the one who shocks if she wins.
VALUE RUNNER: No3 WHOOSHKA
No1 AL MAH HAHA (NEXT BEST BET) comes out of some brilliant formlines during the first preparation with close-up runs to Addictive Nature and Smartedge. We have seen how good the form has stacked up since then. He has had the one trial coming into this preparation and looked to do quite a good job there. He gets a soft run just in behind the speed for Avdulla here, and if he can get any luck in the run he will be winning this race.
No3 LEAGUE OF NATIONS has been poor in all honesty this time in, getting beaten at all three starts at short SP prices. If he doesn’t run up to his best here, being a gelding he may be on his way out of the Snowden camp.
No4 ROCKIN’ RUGA has been well set up for the debut run here with four trials, all in good fashion. He gets the barrier blanket and the blinkers on for the debut run and should jump and run from the barrier.
No2 IRISH SUCCESS comes out of some solid form last time in and has been trialing quite well coming into the second preparation. Blinkers are on here, and that shows some intent from the stable.
VALUE RUNNER: No1 AL MAH HAHA
No7 MISTEED has done a good job in both trials leading into the debut run here, she is bred to be an out and out 2yo Exceed and Excel out of an Encosta mare. She has shown that she is indeed that running nice time in both of her trials. She looks to get a good run on the map and will be hard to hold out.
No1 NOW OR NEVER was quite good on debut in the Gimcrack and we have seen the form out of that hold up already with Meryl winning in Brisbane last week and Setsuna winning twice during the Victorian Carnival. The trial leading in was ok enough, and she should take a lot from the experience.
No2 SOLAR STAR will appreciate the winkers being applied here, as she looked a touch new on debut when run down late. She was also in the wrong part of the track there as the day went on, so you should forgive her for that.
No6 MISS EARTH gets a very good run on the map here just behind the speed and did quite a good job in the one and only trial leading into the debut run. Interestingly she finds Collett, who trialled a few other horses coming into this, so I’m taking close interest in that.
VALUE RUNNER: No1 NOW OR NEVER
No4 SENSACOVA gets a soft run of it on the map here just in behind the speed and did a good job when winning last stat at Newcastle in pretty slick time. Shinn on board is a big jockey change and he rides these inside gates so patiently and she just gets the dream run here.
No3 BALMAIN BOY (BEST ROUGHIE) looks set to peak here and finds as weak a race that he has run in for a very long time. The trial since the last start was quite good and he is now at his pet distance range and with the claim down for Inness he should be somewhere in the finish.
No1 DAWN RAID got too far back in a race which wasn’t run to suit last start. Avdulla tried to make a mid-race move there, but was cast off the track. Completely forgive run there. The form since joining the O’Shea yard has been fantastic and she will run well again.
No7 QUEEN OF HEIGHTS is a mare who I am a fan of and was pretty average first-up when you look at it. She gets a host of gear changes here as well as Collett jumping on board who should suit this mare, given she will take time to find her feet and he will pick runs as they come.
VALUE RUNNER: No3 BALMAIN BOY
No8 NINES ENOUGH (BEST BET) comes out of a brilliant form race when first-up off the long break at Hawkesbury when swamped late by Sasso Corbaro who has since bolted in again at Randwick and will start well in the market in the Magic Millions Guineas. This mare should take a lot of improvement out of the first-up run and from the gate I expect Avdulla to kick up and lead them a merry dance here. She looks to be a progressive type and I am a big fan of her.
No1 STAR CROSSED was good enough when resuming at Muswellbrook in what will be a good race going forward. He is slugged at the weights here but drops in grade.
No2 ZARHRON gets a big weight relief coming to the city and is a quite smart sprinter who has built up a good record over his career. He gets a good weight drop here down to 58kgs after carrying 65kgs last start! He should run well.
No4 BLOWING KISSES gets in with 55kgs here after the claim for Thornton. She gets a good run just behind the speed and with the low weight she will be able to finish off.
VALUE RUNNER: No2 ZARHRON
No1 LAKE LUGARNO is a very speedy mare with a brilliant record and wasn’t at all suited by the heavy track last start. She gets back onto drier ground here which is much more suitable and strikes what is a weak enough race here and is well weighted after the claim for Innes.
No2 MISS LIFFEY has been good at winning the two runs at Wagga this time in. They haven’t been the best of races. But she looks to have come back in very good form, running solid enough time. She has always had good ability and strikes a winnable city race here.
No5 IDENTIC has a solid enough record over the short career and gets a good run on the map here from barrier 4. She has been in good form this time in and comes out of a solid race at Goulburn last start which has held up ok enough form wise.
No3 DIFFICULT TO GET gets a good jockey change here with Angland going on board for the apprentice here in what should be a positive move and help improve her. She comes out of some solid form and gets to distance that suits and now third-up should run well.
VALUE RUNNER: No5 IDENTIC
No6 SATIRICAL MAGIC has bolted in at his past two starts over the course and distance and looks to make it a hat-trick here. Collett won on him two starts back and now jumps on board here. While he is in such good form it is hard to go against him.
No3 MACHINEGUN JUBS is a quirky little mare who when she wants to be can be a group quality peformer. But when she doesn’t want to be there, she literally doesn’t run. She got too far back last start behind Anatola. She has won a race like this before and drops in grade from the Anatola race and should run well again.
No2 POWERLINE comes out of some good form this time in and should be much better suited at the 1250m than the 1400m last start. He has always found the 1400m a touch too far, which shows given the four wins have been over 1200m. Avdulla on here, who will get everything out of him.
No1 LOFTY’S MENU resumes here without a trial and has a good record over the short career. Shinn has been on board him before and knows quite well. Watch the market here with him fresh.
VALUE RUNNER: No2 POWERLINE
No1 HIGH OPINON looks ready to win here after two good runs this time in, the last of which running right through the line behind Carluca and Hunter Jack. He again gets a good run on the map here and will be steaming at them late.
No4 LORD MACAU looks the likely leader here from the wide gate and should run them along here now that he is rock hard fit. Gai’s horses have been going brilliantly as of late and now that he has had that one run over the 1900m he will be hard to beat.
No6 ALLCASH won in a surprise result last start at only his third start for the new stable. He again looks to get a good run of it on the map behind the speed and staying at the 1900m looks to be very suitable here.
No3 BEIJING BOARD has been much better this time in with the last few runs being the best of the lot now that he is getting up in distance and he should run well again.
VALUE RUNNER: No6 ALLCASH
