Canterbury for our midweek meeting here in Sydney, we have seven races on the card with smaller fields the order of the day. This is a legit midweek meeting without too much substance to it, due to everyone being aimed at the Magic Millions this weekend. The rail will be in the true position.

Wide Play: 1,2,3,5 - 2,7,8 - 1,2,6,7 - 1,3,6,7

Next Best Bet: R6 – 2. PEDWAY
Best Roughie: R4 – 5. SOVEREIGN EMINENCE
No3 JOLLY HONOUR improved sharply when jumping up to the 1400m at the second start. That came after a solid enough effort on debut at Canterbury even though he ran last. But you look at this, colts breeding and distance was always going to be his go. He goes up in distance again and the 1550m shouldn’t hold any issues at all for him.
No2 CAMPAIGN won well when resuming at Kembla and looked to do a good job there, when running right through the line there. The distance isn’t going to hold any worries for him as he ran through the line well behind Pandemonium last time in, and that form is more than good enough for this. Now that he has had that win, he could go on with it.
No1 PICKELHAUBE has some really deep form around him, with runs behind Kementari and Levendi, that’s pretty good for a Wednesday handicap. His form this time in, in Victoria has been quite good and now he comes to NSW and finds a good race here. If he brings the Victorian form here, he will go close.
*SCRATCHED* No4 OMBUDSMAN has been ok enough in both starts this time in, and now gets out to a trip which does look to be quite suitable here. Being by Reliable Man, he will appreciate the 1550m and even further now. He looks to be next best though.
VALUE RUNNER: No3 JOLLY HONOUR
No8 SHUMOOKH has been trialing up on very good order coming into the debut run here. She has shown very good speed in both of the trials over the 800m and the 1045m the second of which I love due to the starting point of 1250m here, Gai’s horses have been off the boil a touch since the Carnival ended, but this filly does look to have her share of ability.
No1 ABSOLUTE has some very good form around him and has trialled in very good style coming into the fresh run here, what also is of note is that he has been gelded and that may well have done the trick. It’s the run behind Paret at his last start which I enjoy most of all, as he was only three lengths away that day and that form has held up since, like I said the trials have been very good.
*SCRATCHED* No2 BALEARIC is going to win a race one of these days and I want him to be on my side when he does so, the form that he brings to this is quite good and he has been running some solid sectionals in all runs. He draws a good gate here (3) and should sit just behind the speed here, and take the runs as they appear on the turn.
No5 TEMPRADO was good enough on debut and ran a good sectional late there in a race which has held up ok enough since. The trial coming in was quite good, and I think Angland will take his medicine from the gate and go back here, and come at them with one run late.
VALUE RUNNER: No5 TEMPRADO
No5 ONSLAUGHT resumes here and finds a good race to contest first-up from a spell. He is a horse who I had, had some time for and have thought that he just needed that time to mature and develop into a nice type. The trials coming in have been typical of the stable and he looks to be ticking over quite well. I’m happy to be with him here.
No1 ALL SUMMER LONG looks set to peak here third-up from a spell and has been ok enough with big weights in both runs back in the country this time in. He is a well performed horse who has won in the city before and the claim here for King helps him get closer to the other runners.
No2 MON PERE was just too bad to be true when resuming behind Montreal, who absolutely gapped them in the process though. He comes into this with a faultless second-up record 2/2. He gets a good run on the map here, just behind the speed and can only improve from the fresh run.
No7 READY SET SING comes out of the same race as Mon Pere last start behind Montreal and really found the line well there. Again, she will go back from the gate here and come at them with one run, her record at the track is quite average however and I need to consider that.
VALUE RUNNER: No2 MON PERE
No1 ALL IN THE REFLEXS resumes here and brings some solid enough form to this out of the last preparation. She has been trialing in very good order coming into this and all signs do point towards a good fresh run. She is a winner fresh in the past and has performed well also. The claim for King helps and she should run well.
No2 DUCHESS PEDRILLE was a good winner when getting over the top of them last start. Her best form has been at this track as her two wins have come here, he gets in well at the weights with the claim for Ryan and he gets a great run on the map.
No5 SOVEREIGN EMINENCE (BEST ROUGHIE) has been finding the line quite well this time in and brings solid enough form to this. She looks the likely leader here from the gate and Dolan has been doing a good job on go forward horses as of late. She gets her chance here.
No3 BONITA has been going quite well this time in, with two runs from her past four starts. She finds a good race to run in here to take on her first midweek race this time in. She gets in well after the claim here and should run well.
VALUE RUNNER: No5 SOVEREIGN EMINENCE
No7 REGINE (BEST BET) was a brilliant winner last start at Randwick when charging right through the line for what was a good win. She gets a very good run on the map for Shinn from gate 2 and has been really going through the grades well this time in. I think she has what it takes to make the next step and go onto better things than midweek races in the future and she should be too good.
No2 FEELIN THE LOVE comes out of what I think will be a good race on Boxing Day behind Bye See, the times were quite good for the day and this mare found the line quite well there. She gets a great run on the map here from barrier 1 just in behind the speed for Avdulla and she has a good chance here.
No8 DOMED was brilliant when finding the line fresh on Boxing Day, she came from a long way back and ran right through the line there. She is a winner second-up in the past and should improve off the fresh run and if she does that, she will be in the finish.
No5 TIVOLI STREET has been going just ok, this time in. He has never really gone on with things like I thought that he would. Now that he gets up in distance he should be much better suited and should run well here.
VALUE RUNNER: No2 FEELING THE LOVE
No2 PEDWAY (NEXT BEST BET) ran up to his typical second-up record last start with an average effort. That came after a booming win fresh, where he was dynamic in a race which wasn’t run to suit him at all. Clark now gets back on board him, he was on him fresh when he won as well as in the trials. The form that he brings to this is quite good, and to the 1100m of Canterbury which is going to be much more suitable as he will be able to run along and not go flat out from the start, like you usually do over 1000m.
No1 AKASAKI got run into the ground last start by Montreal and that told late where he basically dropped out, forgive that effort as he was gassed and go off his other form and he has his chance here.
No6 GENETEAU comes back to 1100m here which is much more suitable than the 1200m of last start. The form out of that race should hold up quite well, she doesn’t seem to like winning but should run well again.
No7 CORDONED has solid enough form and was quite good fresh at Gosford when running good time there. His second-up record is average, but he was good enough fresh.
VALUE RUNNER: No6 GENETEAU
*SCRATCHED* No1 VAUCLUSE BAY looks set to peak here and is ready to win, I have loved his form this time in and the way he has been progressing with each start. He ran right through the line well last start and now comes back in grade. The 59.5kg isn’t going to be a worry as he is a big strong gelding who will run well.
*SCRATCHED* No6 EMPEROR’S WAY has been going quite well this time in and just missed last start when jumping 1600m – 1900m. Now that he has had that run over the distance he is going to be much fitter for that and with Shinn on he will run well here.
No7 FANTASTIC MAN was brilliantly well backed last start when getting the job done over the 1550m. The step up to the 1900m now isn’t going to be an issue here at all, but the gate (11) is a touch sticky.
No3 MAGICAL STANCE gets a good jockey change here with Collett jumping on board for Adkins, he gets great run on the map here and has a very good record at Canterbury, now that he is that touch older getting up to 1900m is perfect.
VALUE RUNNER: No3 MAGICAL STANCE
