Horses to Follow – 06-01-2018 and 07-01-2018

None of our black booked runners missed a place last week and we have now found a 3YO with his hoof on the till after a gear change and a potential top line 2YO middle distance Filly.

Last Week’s Black Booked Runners:

Confluence – Sandown Race 2: 2nd ($2.10F):

Started a well-supported favourite and went down by just 0.5L. Could be said the gelding was slightly disappointing as he received the perfect run in transit, sitting in the 1-1 most of the way on a day which suited those on speed. Kept coming to the line, giving one more over the extra furlong (1400m).

Blue Tycoon – Cranbourne Race 8: 3rd ($3):

Was a drifter after opening up slight favourite ahead of well-backed winner Shallotti ($2.70F). Sat mi-field some 5L off the pace and worked home stoutly after getting a split through in the 3-wdie line to finish less than a length from the winner. Not claiming the $51 chance Nordic Empire for second is a concern, likewise his stats over further than 1200m (one run for 9th). Letting go now.

Lanciato – Randwick Race 8: 1st ($3.90):

Went up in the early markets at around the $6 mark and was supported all the way up to the jump, particularly in the later stages. Paraded at his top, hard fit though only second up. Will be continuing to be in his corner, particularly on dry tracks which are giving back markers a chance.

This Week’s Black Book Runners:

Cao Cao – Caulfield Race 7: 5th ($11):

The son of Fastnet Rock had the blinkers applied for the first time on the weekend. He certainly responded to his new gear, obviously over-racing throughout as Zahra tried to settle the 3YO 3L off the lead in the 3-wide line. After hanging in badly, he’s worked to the line well down the center of the track (possibly not the place to be?) to be beaten just over 1L.

Liked the improvement this galloper showed in the parade after his first-up assignment where he was given none at Caulfield on Boxing Day. If the blinkers stay on and he comes on again in the parade he’ll be awfully hard to beat being allowed to roll along near the lead. An extra furlong could suit.

Record: 8:1-1-1

Where To Next? 3YO (or 3&4YO) BM70-80 over 1200-1400m.

Futooh – Randwick Race 2: 1st ($6.50):

Holding her quote throughout betting, the Sebring Filly went back to the tail of the field 3-wide with cover, like her first race start when running 4th to Condemmed. She motored home from back and wide again, however this time reeling them all in to win impressively by 0.5L on the line. She looked the winner rounding the bending travelling well within herself.

On top of the impressive performance on the track, she was one of the best turned out 2YO’s I have seen this season. She looks to have the scope to get over more ground and has the pedigree to do so. Could see her being a major player come Autumn. Unfortunately, not Magic Millions eligible.

Record: 2:1-0-0

Where to Next? Could spell now. Looking towards Group races for 2YO’s over 1400m-1600m.
