Randwick for yet another Saturday meeting here in Sydney on Magic Millions day, a lot of the big boys and girls are up on the Gold Coast this weekend, so this is usually a day for someone who doesn’t always get the best chances to shine. We have had a lot of rain in Sydney this week in the lead up, which should lead to us being on Soft going, the rail will be out 4m.
QUADDIES (races 6-7-8-9)
Skinny Play: 5,6 - 2,3,5 - 5 - 6
Wide Play: 3,5,6 - 2,3,4,5 - 5 - 6,7,9
BEST BET: R8 – 5. SUGAR BELLA
Next Best Bet: R4 – 5. REACH FOR HEAVEN
Best Roughie: R2 – 9. ANOTHER SIN
No2 O’LORDY has been going well enough this time in to win this and strikes what is a fairly weak highway. He is a winner of a highway in the past and looks to get a super soft run on the map here, and this looks to be a sprint home tempo wise and he has the best sprint.
No5 BRAY has been in great form this time in with two wins from as many starts and is now living up to the ability I thought he had early days. He had run in some very good races, but still wasn’t the finished product, he looks to be now and is on an upward spiral.
No1 DANETRILLE did a good job when winning last start at the Riverside track at Wagga. He had been building well towards that win with his previous runs to that, I do like horses coming to town / a highway off a win and he is well weighted here.
No8 ARRONDISSEMENT has had a very weird prep this time in, varying over a lot of distances and getting some horrid rides. She was outclassed last start and I would be forgiving of that, the trial since was quite good and she should run well.
VALUE RUNNER: No1 DANETRILLE
No9 ANOTHER SIN (BEST ROUGHIE) resumes and comes here with a touch of hype to the table, he was a big winner in a highway when sensationally backed on debut to get the job done. He was then outclassed in the San Domenico, but brings a $21 SP to that. No trial coming in, soft gate watch the betting again.
No8 TIARA STAR resumes off a long break here for a new stable and comes out of some good enough races in that 2yo season. The trial coming into this was quite good and she looks to have come back in good enough order and the 1000m fresh suits.
No7 WE HAVE LIFT OFF got the job done well first up at Canterbury when resuming off the long break, she was nominated for the Magic Millions, but did look to be outclassed there, so I much rather her here. The win fresh was quite strong and she has her chance.
No5 PENDELOQUE got the dream run fresh and kept on running, and didn’t give any of them a chance. She had trialled well leading in, but now comes back to the 1000m which is a touch of a worry. She has won over 1000m before though.
VALUE RUNNER: No9 ANOTHER SIN
No1 GREAT GLEN has been going quite well this time in, and looks to get a good run behind Coonawarra here and could prove to be too strong late here, I think coming back in distance cost him late there and getting back up to the 2400m now is much more suitable.
No3 CORDERO has been going quite well as of late winning the last two races, but I am not too sure as of the substance of those races, but he is the winner of those races and it is hard to knock winning form. Having that win over the 2400m will hold him in good stead here.
No5 COONAWARRA looks the likely leader here and should be much better suited after having had that one run over 2400m last start, horses can improve quickly after that one run at the distance, and he falls into that category.
No7 BLANCO CARA got the job done well as she should have last start given she was well back in grade to a basic class race. She drops well in weight for that run and the step up to 2400m is suitable here as she was a winner over that distance last prep when on her way to the QLD Oaks.
VALUE RUNNER: No1 GREAT GLEN
No5 REACH FOR HEAVEN (NEXT BEST BET) resumes here and brings some very solid form to this race after his efforts last time in with two wins from four starts, as well as placings behind Arbetisam and Awoke. He has always looked as if he was a preparation away and has had the two trials leading into this fresh run in a race which may well have been targeted to run on, when “everyone” is away. He can take that next step here and go onto better things than a basic benchmark race.
No2 BRATISLAVA gets a sticky run on the map here in the small field. Glyn may have to take his medicine and drag him back to last and come at them with one run, he does have a good turn of foot which helps.
No8 TIP TOP just missed last start when charging through the line behind Rose Of Man, the step up here to the 1200m here is much more suitable and he should run well again.
No7 ARGENT D’OR resumes here and has had two strong trials leading into this. He is a winner fresh in the past and gets a quiet run on the map here behind the speed and has his chance.
VALUE RUNNER: No7 ARGENT D’OR
No1 MACHINEGUN JUBS is a quirky little mare who when she wants to be, can be group quality. But when she doesn’t want to be there, she literally doesn’t run. She got too far back last start behind Anatola. She has won a race like this before and drops in grade from the that race and should run well again.
No8 KAWAIKINI was quite good last start behind Sugar Bella, when no match for her. Take Sugar Bella out of the race and she has run quite well there, running a good sectional late. Kathy goes off here for Taylor, who has been riding well enough as of late.
No7 TEARS IN HEAVEN has trialled well twice leading into a fresh run and finds Parr here which intrigues me. The form that she brings to this is quite good, but over further. Her fresh record is quite good and she will run well.
No3 ROSE OF MAN has done a good job winning the last two, and was really well backed to win the race at Randwick on New Year’s day, when she finds her form she usually holds it and will run well again.
VALUE RUNNER: No7 TEARS IN HEAVEN
No6 DREAMFORCE absolutely flogged them last start when running them into the ground. He looks to get a trickier run of it here with Supply And Demand and Coolring down to run, I think that he will sit just behind the speed here and look to ramp up the pressure heading for home.
No5 LIAPARI will appreciate the speed being on here, and this not being a sit and sprint as he was out sprinted last start by Dreamforce, now that he is third-up from a spell he looks to be set to run up to his best performance here.
No3 MORTON’S FORK looks to be back to his best form here after running right through the line last start, and should now be suited stepping up to the mile here. Glyn will just sit off, of them here and stalk them. His Randwick record is quite good.
No1 SUPPLY AND DEMAND has gone around Australia this time in and was solid enough last start after coming back from Perth, at his best he can win. But I don’t want to back him, happy to risk.
VALUE RUNNER: No5 LIAPARI
No5 EUSEBIO found the line quite well fresh in a race which wasn’t at all run to suit. She worked home well however, and looked to have a lot of improvement to come from that. She gets a great run on the map here from gate 2 and should love the wide open spaces of Randwick and be hard to beat.
No2 NEW UNIVERSE didn’t really run out the mile last start and now comes back to the 1400m here which should suit much more. From the barrier I think he will go back and come at them with one run, as that has been his best since coming across from NZ.
No3 CARELESS ran to his usual pattern of doing not much fresh, he went around and got a fitness benefit out of it, that is all you could say. The trial since was quite good and he does have a good second-up record, I like that he was pushed to win the trial and he should run well.
No4 CRAFTY COP was good fresh in a race which should hold up quite well. That Brave Song form, is going to be one to follow in the next month or so. Her second-up record is quite good, but she hasn’t won for a while.
VALUE RUNNER: No3 CARELESS
No5 SUGAR BELLA (BEST BET) should continue on her winning ways here after belting a solid field last start, that came after a big win fresh. We need to remember though that she was scratched at the barriers between those runs too. The way she won last start I cannot see her getting beaten here, and the step up to 1400m suits even more.
No6 GITAN looks the likely leader here and was just run down last start, the visors going on will allow him to see horses when they are coming at him and give that extra kick.
No1 INVINCIBLE GEORGE has been good enough in three runs back this time in and looks set to peak here.
No11 AQUATIC comes out of the same race as Gitan last start and found the line well there, he should run well again.
VALUE RUNNER: No1 INVINCIBLE GEORGE
No6 VAUCLUSE BAY has been building well towards this, this time in and looks set to breakthrough. The form around him has held up quite well, and Parr will have the last shot at them here.
No7 COYS will roll along in front here, and is well weighted after the claim for Panya. She is at her best when she can get to the front and roll along in front, she is a tough mare who will be hard to get past.
No9 EMPEROR’S WAY just missed when closing hard last start. He will appreciate getting to the wide open spaces of Randwick here, and Glyn will be hugging the fence and pinching the runs as they come.
No4 NOTHING BOX gets up to a much more suitable trip here, after two solid enough runs this time in. Expect Magorrian to roll forward here and help set it up for the stablemate.
VALUE RUNNER: No7 COYS
