This is the support meeting to the strong card at Flemington today. The eight-race card does not look exciting with moderate gallopers contesting lowly-rated races, including four maidens.
The false rail has been shifted out to the seven-metre position and the track is rated perfectly as a Good 3 (Thursday). However some showers are forecast so the rating could be altered. Don’t see a lot of value on this card and suggest punters tread carefully here.

No1 ADMIRAL MICHELLE this daughter of Commands has been placed at three of her five starts. Latest she ran a good over 1000m maiden at Yarra Valley on November 25. She is well drawn in gate two and looks a serious player.
No2 BELLA showed a heap of potential at debut when flashing home into third place over 1100m 3F maiden here on December 24. She was not wanted in the betting that day at $26 but won’t get those odds here.
No3 EFFECTUATE has been placed at two of her three starts and gets a critic gear change with the addition of blinkers today. Last start she ran a credible sixth over 1000m maiden at Mornington on December 27.
No9 RUBY’S REWARD will wear a tongue tie at her debut. She underlined her potential with a good second in a 800m 3F barrier trial at Colac on December 18. The barrier in 11 hurts her chances at debut.
VALUE RUNNER: No9 RUBY’S REWARD
No7 PIERIDAE looms as a good chance in a moderate maiden today. Latest ran a good second over 1200m maiden at Seymour on December 12. Michelle Payne rides for her brother Patrick and is drawn ideally in one.
No4 KAIKEN hails from the top stable of Darren Weir and ran a solid sixth over 1200m maiden at Pakenham on the synthetic at last start on August 22. Has a sound record fresh of as third at her two starts.
No10 TOUGH ACT two efforts back from a good spell have been full of merit finishing on the heels of the major players. Latest she ran a sound fourth over 1200m maiden at Terang on January 1. She is rock hard fit.
No9 SATISFIED is a daughter of leading stallion Charge Forward from the King Of Kings mare King’s Concubine. The unraced three-year-old has no trial form to use as a guide but she does come out of an astute Caulfield stable.
VALUE RUNNER: No10 TOUGH ACT
No2 INVINSKI looks a strong chance to break maiden status after landing inside the money at four of five starts in this mediocre maiden. Was heavily backed into a $1.90 favourite last time when finishing third over 1450m maiden at Kyneton on December 23.
No10 JANE’S ANGEL should come back much stronger from a long spell. Showed some potential at only two starts with latest being at Geelong on August 9, where she battled on steadily to run sixth over 1100m maiden.
No12 SATIN SHEEN has the blinkers being taken off and the visors going on. She was unlucky not to have broken through last time when a close second over 1400m maiden at Kerang on December 26. Drawn wide (13).
No4 SINGLE INTENT was working well to the line when finished third over 1170m maiden at Echuca on December 23. The four-year-old has been placed at three of his seven starts and is a chance, despite draw in 10.
VALUE RUNNER: No4 SINGLE INTENT
No10 BERKSHIRE LADY has been as honest as can be with three placings at past six starts. Was backed into a $2.20 favourite when finishing second over 2000m maiden at Mornington on December 27. Fit and is ready to fire.
No6 HOUSE ARREST (BEST ROUGHIE) was at long odds last time when ran a top second over 1600m in a maiden at Stony Creek on December 30. Gets an important gear change with the blinkers coming off and the visors going on for the rise in distance.
No8 DANUBE DELTA was narrowly beaten in a 2009m maiden at Warrnambool on January 7. The seven-year-old mare is fit and tough and on a quick back up here, but she faces very mediocre opposition in this maiden.
No13 KUGELBLITZ showed at debut to run a strong sixth over 1600m maiden at Werribee on December 24. Hails from an astute former New Zealand stable and has top jockey Linda Meech to steer.
VALUE RUNNER: No13 KUGELBLITZ
No1 CITY OF PEARLS looks one of the better chances over the dash here after breaking the ice with a stylish half-length win over 1200m maiden at Yarra Valley on December 22. Goes up 1.5kg to 60kg today but meets mild opposition.
No2 LUCKY FISH is a former NSW-trained galloper now in the Victorian yard of Brent Stanley. Has shown form with a last start fifth over 1200m at Gosford back in July. The five-year-old goes well fresh with a win and two seconds at five starts
No5 WATERFORD SOUND resumed from a 32-week spell to run a very strong fourth over 1000m at Yarra Valley on December 28. Daniel Stackhouse keeps the ride on the seven-year-old mare and has drawn well in gate one.
No9 JACK HENRY was a very good effort to run a close second over 1000m at Burrumbeet on January 1. Sole two wins from 43 starts have been over the short-courses and is drawn ideally in gate three to do no work.
VALUE RUNNER: No9 JACK HENRY
No1 EYES ARE BLUE (NEXT BEST BET) faces a very mediocre field here and was a smart winner over 2224m at Geelong last start on January 4. He carried 58.5kg that day and goes up to 60kg here. The European import is with ace trainer Darren Weir and looks set to go on with the job today. Weir has booked Jack Hill to ride the British import, who is having his third start from a spell today.
No6 BROADWAY DANZA was at $20 and unwanted in the betting but defied his odds to run a good second.
No4 GRASSINI is as hard as granite with three runs over the distances under his belt this campaign.
No12 IT COULD BE YOU is rock hard fit with three runs over the journey now, but is on a short five-day back up.
VALUE RUNNER: No12 IT COULD BE YOU
No3 BANK STREET (BEST BET) looks one of the better bets on an ordinary eight-race card today. He ran a strong third over 1700m at Geelong on December 26 last start when well backed into $5.50. The six-year-old has finished inside the money at all of his past five starts and gets regular rider Jarrod Fry to help him cross from gate 12.
No6 HI SUPPOSE has been placed twice from past five starts and when not in the money was up close behind the major players.
No7 POPPI ROX has had to dig deep last two starts and is a last-start winner at Bairnsdale.
No1 ELECTROLYTE won maiden over 1600m five starts ago and was a good third here last start.
VALUE RUNNER: No1 ELECTROLYTE
No2 NIL DESPERANDUM was a brilliant 2.75 length winner first up in a 1200m handicap at Yarra Valley on December 22. Was backed into a $2.60 favourite that day. Has yet to finish outside the money at all four of her starts.
No4 BOSSY MISS is dropping back to country class following a good fourth over 1200m at Sandown on January 3. Was at $26 that day, but this race is much milder and did run a fast second at Bendigo two starts ago.
No3 BELLARIA was heavily backed into a $2.30 favourite when finishing a well-beaten third over 1400m against her own sex here on December 24. She has been freshened up for this assignment and from barrier four gets a soft run.
No5 NICODAME did pull a bit hard early but fought on well enough to run a solid second over 1400m against her own sex at Cranbourne on January 5. The five-year-old was backed into a $3.10 favourite last time. Respect.
VALUE RUNNER: No12 NIL DESPERANDUM
